Silly little things that make you happy

Sometimes the silliest, trivial little things make me smile.

This morning, it's knowing that my daughter (just turned 21 on Saturday) is safe and secure at the camp at which she is working through the fall, enjoying her first job and finding her way in the world.

It's also looking over at my handsome hubby, sound asleep on the couch, remote in hand, looking completely at peace with our 2 little dogs next to him, one by his feet and the other by his side.

For some reason, those few little things make me feel that all is right in my little corner of the world.

Anybody else have just simple, kinda silly little things that make you smile?

Lucky the Wonder Cat (or Destructo-Cat depending on his mood) came to live with me on 07/07/07 when he was 5 weeks old (hence the name Lucky). He has a pink stuffed bear that my mom gave him about 6 months before she died and he to this day still gets on the bed with Mr. Bear and sucks on one of the bear's paws. It's the cutest thing and just makes me smile every time he does it.

I have a framed pic of my mom and me. My mom has passed away now, but its when was about 6 years old and my mom is wearing this really wild hat and she's holding my hand. That pic makes me smile every time I look at it.

It's memories of growing up, scouting, sitting on grandma's lap, mom curling my hair with pieces of old ripped up sheets, ice skating with scouts, sledding, dancing around the living room with mom and siblings, grandpa washing his hands with my tiny hands in his big hands, learning to polka with grandma and grandpa, everything about my childhood makes me smile.

Everything happening with the country is not very comforting anymore and not much to smile about. So my memories keep me happy.

My silly little boys, a super sweet e-mail that my husband sent me last week (I read it over and over) and thinking about the whole family sitting around the table in December when he gets home. I will be so happy to have a family dinner again without an empty seat! :)

I have 3 bird baths positioned so that I can see them from the window in my office. Watching the birds taking a bath will always bring a smile to my face, even when I am having a bad day.

This is a wonderful post. Sometimes it's the little things that make life worthwhile. I get a warm, happy feeling when I hug my stepfather's dog, or when I see her behind his chair (used to be mom's before she passed away in November) where she keeps her toys. She is playing and chewing with her toys and then drops off to sleep. I also just love seeing our parrot out on the sun porch watching the birds out in the yard, and then watching her little eyelids get heavy as she takes her nap! I am so very happy that we are approaching the fall season, my personal favorite!

Not many babies in my family when I grew up, so she's the first one I've seen go through all her baby experiences. It is just fascinating to see what she is up to with her cute little cheeks and chubby ankles. :) She'll be a year old in November, and she is such a content, happy little soul. Wish I could see her in person every day.

Silly Girl - I was wondering if you tried your crockpot yet. What did you make? Did it save some time for you and your son? I've never done it myself, but I know people who actually put the crockpot together the night before and stick in the frig until the morning when they go to work so they can cut some time in the morning. I love to cook! Always have. Since I was young I have collected family recipes, changed them around (or not) and have honed my skills to the point where I have earned the title of "family cook". This story is one illustrates why government-controlled health care can be a dangerous thing. The doctors and the government took choice away from these parents and basically said "sorry, your child is just going to die, no tracheotomy for him."
