AP seems to be the one that has no facts. - sm

They could have done a much better job had they simply Googled "2013 Ghouta Attacks" and read the Wiki entry, which lists 185 sources. There is a lot there, but what stands out the most to me is the first sentence of Intelligence Reports section: Intelligence agencies in the United Kingdom, Israel, United States, France, Turkey, and Germany concluded that the Syrian government was most likely responsible for the attacks.

Any rational person who reads the entire analysis of this ONE location (there were many more sites that produced evidence not described in the piece), would be left with little doubt. One of the most telling undisputed facts is how Assad forces heavily bombed all of those sites immediately after the chemical weapons attacks, in an unsuccessful attempt to destroy the evidence. Seems their bombs can't shave heads or drain bladders. I feel quite certain the UN inspectors' report will put this to rest in short order.

Senators and reps who have seen the classified information do not seem to have much doubt. Assad's own admission to possessing the weapons and lack of any shred of credible evidence that opposition forces possessed a chemical weapons arsenal and the capacity required to deliver such a wide-scale attack is also undisputed. The military requested Assad's permission to use chemical weapons on numerous occasions in the months leading up to the attack which demonstrates an equal number of times they were UNWILLING to take that action independently. Then, Lo and Behold!, Assad supplied them with gas masks prior to the attack.

I have to wonder why the doubters and haters think they can float this particular theory in the face of such overwhelming evidence, especially considering the low bar they set last time around in terms of sketchy, unsubstantiated evidence they were willing to swallow hook, line and sinker. I am also reminded on this anniversary of the 09/11 attacks of the consequences behind another aspect of that administration's intel fails. RICE: "I believe the title was, 'Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States.'"

Just because there are numerous sources of "facts" does not mean truth. Evidenced by weapons of mass destruction in Iraq when everyone, other countries, the president, Colin Powell, CIA, etc all swore they were there and then there were none. There is video of a rebel claiming responsibility. I don't know what to believe, and that's the problem.

Why would the rebels gas their own side? - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
And then on top of that, take responsibility for it? Especially when everyone believing it is the regime doing it really ends up working in the rebels' favor.

Even if it was a so-called accident, as some have claimed, why take the blame for it when the US is ready to bomb Assad's weapons stores and possibly end up topping the regime they despise?

Well, believe this. The Syria government has created - the fourth largest supply of poison gasses

[ In Reply To ..]
on the planet. They didn't do it because they'd never use it, and they are known, in fact, to have used it before.

Does THAT mean the Syrian government gassed its own citizens this time? No.

But governments of many nations whose intelligence services spy on Syria believe Syria did this.

The United Nations and its inspectors believe Syria did this.

Syria's powerful allies, Russia and China, believe Syria did this.

The governments of surrounding Muslim nations believe Syria did this.

No major nation or person is claiming Syria didn't do this, not even Syria right now.

We have to keep remembering that people know a great deal (and that we "know" virtually nothing in comparison), and a single statement from someone in front of cameras would be weighed against literally decades of intelligence gathering and evaluation by professionals. They actually have a good idea WHICH storage unit the gas came from and which military unit deployed it on which dates, including satellite footage of vehicles transporting it.

We're just one of the nations with satellites monitoring the conflicts in Syria 24/7. Our guys at the screens would have focused in on this area when odd behavior first started occurring and would have been watching people dying from this gas and others trying to save loved ones in real time, as it happened, and the White House would have been informed literally within minutes.
My only point is that I don't know. According to your reply, you don't know, and my ultim - oldie

birth certificates or grandma's marriage certificate. If there was one? My grandfather was dead (or never there?) well before I came along, so he couldn't verify their "claims" and those of the family members who acted as if they were true. All pretense?

Insisting on a standard of proof that can never be met is a facile way of insisting valid statements are invalid.

But go ahead. Just don't go ahead and ascribe your interpretations to me, please. I find the information available to me credible. The international community decided Assad was a war criminal long ago after mass murders then. There is just no reason to believe he might be an innocent victim of some evil planet-wide scheme, and a mountain of evidence to the contrary.

If you have a strong stomach, you might read up on President Assad's past yourself and what's been happening in Syria's prisons for instance under his regime.
Then let me ask you a question. Did you believe in the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq when eve - Oldie

Wondering at first, then NO. Waves of retired presidents, - generals, heads of spy agencies, secretaries
[ In Reply To ..]
of state, ambassadors, renowned experts on Irag, and so on stepped forward week after week, month after month to speak up after President G.W. Bush announced we were going to war. They not only explained why invading Iraq was a bad idea militarily but debunked the claim that he was developing nuclear weapons.

These people included General Schwartzkopf, top military dog in the Persian Gulf War (i.e., first Iraq war), and, of course, Valerie Plame, wife of Joe Wilson, former ambassador to Iraq, who ran undercover agents in Africa watching for signs of nuclear materials gathering. Former CIA Chief Drumheller, whom I remember from 60 Minutes, and at least 2 retired top heads of intelligence agencies, CIA and ?NSA?, whose names I can't remember.

They also included W's father, President G.H.W., only he made his statements quietly before private groups for the historic record, not on TV. Since I read, though, I learned of two of them when they occurred.

Distinguished experts from governments of other nations allied with us, such as England and France, also spoke up.

So, again, NO. I had good reason to believe Bush/Cheney were lying, not mistaken but actively lying, long before our troops actually went ashore in Iraq.

Why did so many citizens miss what was on the evening news for months? Besides those who paid no attention and those who refused to notice anything that would interfere with their "patriotism," I suspect it was because they came out one by one. One would speak, there would be no change in public attitude, so a couple to a few weeks later, another would step up to speak. The slow parade of the retireds.

They should have come out as a group and hollered until their message couldn't be missed. NO!
Well done. - nm

Silly (or Not So Silly) Dream...Have One?Oct 19, 2010
Do you have a silly dream of doing something totally different with your career or life? Lately, my husband and I have somewhat seriously been talking about opening a mexican food burrito/taco shop.  We have great recipes that are relatively simple and inexpensive, and would love to just open up a very small shop that handles only takeout orders for a few types of burritos and/or tacos, rice and beans.  Something small with the BEST food around, even though not fancy. Never heard of this guy before.
