I love to cook! Always have. Since I was young I have collected family recipes, changed them around (or not) and have honed my skills to the point where I have earned the title of "family cook". I can do it all! I even make homemade cakes and decorate them for family gatherings. I have index cards, ringed binders and tons and tons of recipes on random pieces of paper put away in boxes.

A couple of Christmases ago I decided that since times are tough and gifts for our large family are expensive, I'd compile a collection of the favorite family recipies (great-great grandparents, grandparents, mom, dad, aunts, uncles, friends...) and make a recipe book. It looked totally homemade when it came out of the printers, but it had the desired effect.

My sister took it to work, some of her co-workers asked for copies and as time has gone on I have actually sold several copies. I sent it to a publishing company and THEY ARE GOING TO PRINT IT! How cool is that!!?? I know it's not going to make me rich or even generate enough to "supplement" my income, but I hope that those who buy it love the recipes!

I am so happy for you! This is a dream of mine, as well! As a word of encouragement, you would be surprised how many people actually buy cook books these days, particularly if the recipes are "keepers." You may end up with more than you realize is possible. Best of luck to you, and please let us know when it is on the shelves, as I would be interested too, and my sister, as well!

How wonderful! This has reminded me of how important it is to share family recipes (just like family stories) and to write them down to share for generations to come. So much is lost if we don't have a "family historian". I think I'll start making a collection. My mom is in her 80's and is having a hard time remembering, so it's important now more than ever. I should have thought about it a long time ago. Very cool story!

That is wonderful. I hope you make lots of extra money!!!!! The recipes are something that can now be passed on to other generations outside your family through people that purchase your book. This is an accomplishment that you and your family should be very proud of. It is always nice to hear a nice story in these days of gloom and doom.

This story is one illustrates why government-controlled health care can be a dangerous thing. The doctors and the government took choice away from these parents and basically said "sorry, your child is just going to die, no tracheotomy for him." Religious organization from the US stepped in, brought him down here, US docs did the trach, and now he can spent his last days comfortably at home with his parents. I am expecting company this summer. I do not cook very well so I was trying to think what can I do other than crockpot dishes. Researched and bought me a panini maker.
