I recently decided to quit drinking soda for the billionth time. I have been a soda drinker since I was around 5-years-old in the 80s as my parents were also soda drinkers. Everyday my Mom would park outside and send me in to get our daily 6-pack of Pepsi. I was known as the Pepsi girl in the drug store we used to get it from. I had always been a small person even after three children (a daughter and twin boys) 5'3" 120 pounds, but after I hit 32 or so, I really started to gain the weight and now weigh 178, basically what I weighed while pregnant for our children. My whole life that I can remember I've had mostly soda to drink with every meal, rarely if ever drinking water.
Since last Friday, 01/02/15, I have only had three 32 ounce sodas (with 1/4 of the cup filled with ice). This is good for me. I've had the three in the past three days. I feel this is going to be an ongoing problem where I need to have at least one 32 ounce one per day. I was even wanting one last night but didn't want to go out late to get one.
As far as health problems, I've been struggling with a vitamin B12 and vitamin D deficiencies that I only found out due to blood tests performed after white matter changes were found on my brain MRI after a car crash. So maybe I've had these deficiencies longer. I also feel that my bones are really achy for a 35-year-old, and I get tired and have muscle aches a lot. I'm also overweight, 5'3, 178 pounds.
Any advice on how to quit for good? My daughter has always hated soda which is great, but my sons try to sneak some whenever I have it in the house. My 10-year-old daughter is supportive and even dumped what soda I had left down the drain for me without asking :) I've admitted to her that I've had these three sodas. I just wish it was easier. Any advice would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance! : )
