Now for something completely different

Posted: Aug 5, 2011

If you get really bored this weekend, some delightfully amusing snippets of unabashed hypocrisy is flying around the internet about Chris Christie's appointment of Sohail Mohammed.  Most of them center around this crazy notion that you can't let someone who might let religion color their decisions on the court.  I'll bet you there will be a lot of partnered but unmarried gay and lesbian science teachers with pregnant rape-victim daughters who sure as heck home nothing like that happens here in the good ol' church-and-state separated US of A!!!

public stand on homophobia and islamophobia. Finally some sanity prevails on the right! It has been reported that he has sealed his fate and will never attain higher office because of these views.

That makes it even more admirable - sm

I can't think of anybody else on the right that would stand for principle on a human rights issue except maybe John McCain. It's actually almost frightening reading some of the bulletin boards about this decision. Apparently the only thing that could distract the fringe from their fear of contracting homosexuality from the cooties is their fear of shariah law. I guess they don't want any competition for their Christian ones.

Just curious - sue

Our curent judicial system is based on the tenets set forth by our fouding fathers, which is based on Christian beliefs. Would you prefer that it be replaced by Shariah law, because if you do, homosexuals will have absolutely no chance of living much less being accepted. I am not homophobic at all and try to consider all ideas, but don't believe that Shariah law would benefit our Country.

You've got to step away from Faux and Limbuagh if you truly think that he would be able to start ruling cases in shariah law. The biggest reason is that all the things that you quiver about have to be declared a crime first. Judges don't just send the bailiff out to bring people into the courtroom. A crime has to be committed first and adultery and gayness are not crimes.

Christianity has the same crimes on its books and is trying their damnest to impose them here. Even shariah law carries the same punishment as the Bible, but much to Christian consternation, the witch trials showed us that time to step away away from the religious nut jobs.

There are too many checks and balances for one guy practicing Shariah law to not be overturned repeatedly and eventually disbarred.

Honor killings are permitted by Sharia law. Would you endorse them? I don't think many Christians would endorse killing their child in this day and age if the child did not comply with their beliefs. That being said, Shariah is making in-roads in Europe. Thank God (or your diety of choice) for the U.S.A.
Christians pull that all the time....they hear the voice of god, kill kids, - declared insane. Christian version of sharia nm

There are indeed a lot of fringe elements out there. I would have the same disgust for any religion that would kill women and children, wouldn't you?
Thanks for the info but ... - sue

please document for me where in current times, because that is what I am citing, any other major religion would condone this act.
What the heck are you talking about? - sm

Mainstream Islam did not condone the acts of the terrorists. George Tiller was murdered by a zealot who took the targets on a Christian web site literally. Abortion clinics are blown up and people killed and the people are treated as heroes...the whole, "it's a shame he felt compelled to do that." GoldBar Beck even felt that mighty Christian soldier in Norway was justified because it was just a Hitler-esque youth camp. Yates thought God was telling her to kill the kids. Apparently Christians here a lot of voices- Bachmann has heard them, Perry has heard them, and quite a few psychos have heard them. Considering some of the schlitz he's told them in the past (crusades, inquisition, etc.) I'm not more thrilled with listening to what the Christian god is saying than I am with the Islamic one.
I would ask you that question too, what are you talking about. - see message

A true Christian does not murder. Quit condemning Christianity for the acts of those who do not follow Christ. Just cause you want it to be, it doesn't fly, you are wrong on so many levels. Furthermore, your xenophobia is quite obvious from your posts as well as your hatred for Christianity period.

As far as the crusades and the inquisition, study your history and not the prog/revisionist version either.

By the way, what the heck is mainstream Islam, define please.
Christian hypocrisy rears its ugly head once again. - sm

She is saying the same thing about Islam that you are saying about Christianity, yet you are quick to judge Moslems by a different standard. There are extremists to be found coming from BOTH faiths who twist and pervert their religions to achieve political agendas, and she gave some prime examples of Christian fanatics who have done just that. You immediately dissociate yourself and your religion from them, yet cannot allow that Islamic terrorists do not represent the majority of MAINSTREAM Islam. I suggest you look up the meaning of xenophobe before throwing down or, better still, go take a look in the mirror.

I hever said that all muslims are fanatics. I have a good friend who is a muslim. My question was directed ab out Shariah law and if the previous person endorsed honor killings. If you would C.A.R.E.F.U.L.L.Y. read the prior post by me, you would see that. Name-calling doesn't get us anywhere or advance a civil exchange of ideas. I only asked a question. I would hate to think what you would have responded had I voiced an opinion.
To answer your question, yes, - hypocrisy.

Now, excuse me while I join the others in this thread by ignoring your posts. Zero tolerance for this Sharia law nonsense.
Wrong. The US Constitution is based on freedom - oldtimer

to practice the religion of your choice or no religion at all. There is no mention of Christ in the Constitution. It really makes me angry when people try to inject religion into any political discussion, assuming that Christianity is the only right way. There was a reason our forefathers came to America and freedom of religion was at the top of the list.

Has Anyone Quit Drinking Soda Completely?Jan 08, 2015
I recently decided to quit drinking soda for the billionth time.  I have been a soda drinker since I was around 5-years-old in the 80s as my parents were also soda drinkers.  Everyday my Mom would park outside and send me in to get our daily 6-pack of Pepsi.  I was known as the Pepsi girl in the drug store we used to get it from.  I had always been a small person even after three children (a daughter and twin boys) 5'3" 120 pounds, but after I hit 32 or so, I really star ...
