oh man... that is my worst nightmare. Do you have a backup, - like a camping coffe pot?

I would be knocking on the neighbors door!!!

Instant! When's the last time you tasted that? It has not changed. Yuck! - LOL :) no message

If the one I have now breaks down... - I'm going to get one

[ In Reply To ..]
of those hourglass shaped things where you only have to pour boiling water in it, or maybe a French press, as I have never had that before and it sounds so gourmet!

Instant Coffee - Agree

[ In Reply To ..]
The instant powdered coffee was terrible, but I think some of the brands of coffee singles (in bags) are pretty good, especially in a pinch!
I actually prefer instant to fresh coffee! - I know. I"m weird......nm

Anyone remember the old Corningware coffee makers? (sm) - Don't make things like they used to

[ In Reply To ..]
I've used Mr. Coffee (or something similar) for the past several years. Like clock-work, they usually break down after 2-3 years of use. My parents had a Corningware perculator (they got it in the 1960s when I was a kid). That thing was still going strong 35 years later when I got the bright idea to get them a Mr. Coffee. What the heck was I thinking? Anyway, they don't make things like they used to. Now let's talk about GE washing machines that only last 5 years. Grrrr...

I remember the glass pots that perked on the stovetop -- - wish I had one now.

[ In Reply To ..]
It had a glass stem that always got broke! and you could watch the whole process, stop it when your coffee was 'dark enoug' in color to your desired strength. The thing never stained, "clean" coffee every pot perked.

miss that.

use a filter to drip the coffee into the mug - nothing keeps me from coffee

[ In Reply To ..]
Put the coffee in the filter. Add the hot water to the grounds in small amounts and let it drip through. Keep an eye on the filter so it doesn't fall into your mug.

Yes, just make drip. It is a perfectly good method. - French Market Miss

French drip is classic, in fact. You may never go back to a coffeemaker. I have done it this way since college.

Put the coffee in the filter thing same as usual. Boil water. Remove from heat and pour slowly over the grounds. Let it drip directly into the carafe.

If you grind your own coffee, grind it a little finer.

For one cup, just fold the filter into a cone, drop in a couple spoons of coffee, and pour boiling water over. You can use a funnel to hold it.

For that matter, you can line the cup with the filter, add coffee, fill with water, and then sloooowly lift it out like a big teabag.

Melitta makes great little filter holders that sit right on the cup. You can get them at grocery stores (all those conical filters in the green boxes? that is what they go in) and online. They are perfect for making just one cup. No more waste. They have larger ones, too.

i am so confused by your instructions - is there a video on this

[ In Reply To ..]
I hate my Keurig and the price of the cups is outrageous and I also dislike my prior coffee pot.

here you go, gal! - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
This is the clearest, most to-the-point video I could find; I hope you enjoy!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAHMPJfkrS4&feature=related

Melitta makes a few good styles. I used to have a Chemex, which tend to be more expensive.

You can actually purchase a plastic or ceramic filter-holder thing at lots of grocery stores. I find the Melitta filters expensive, so I just buy the unbleached basket-style filters (cheap) and fold them for my purpose.

Dripping the coffee without a filter-holder thing is tricky, but I have done it lots of times. If you have a paper filter on hand, you never have to be without coffee!

Oops. . . forgot you were caffein-deficient - French Market Miss

I gave several different options. That is why it was confusing.

Objective: Make coffee by pouring boiling water through coffee grounds.

Single Cup Method Using Funnel: Place cup on counter. Place funnel over cup. Line funnel with filter. Neat or messy does not matter. Place a couple spoons of ground coffee in bottom of filter. Finer grind is better, but go with what you have until you have enough coffee on board to think clearly. Boil water. Pour freshly boiled water over grounds a little at a time. You might have to lift the funnel, depnding on if it has a long spout or something, but you can figure that out. When the cup is full, stop pouring water. Toss the funnel and filter in the sink. Drink the coffee.

Options: No funnel, but have filter basket from broken coffeemaker? Use the filter basket. Line it with the filter and proceed as above.

No funnel, no filter basket, but have small colander? Line colander with filter, proceed as above.

More filter holder possibilties: Strawberry basket (you know, those square green plastic things). Clean glazed flowerpot with hole in bottom. A piece of aluminum foil folded into a funnel shape.
A strainer (who doesn't have a strainer? Or foil?) An aluminum pie pan folded into a funnel with a few holes in the bottom.

Also a coffee ''addict''... - who hates instant

Thanks for great instructions! Great idea (in a pinch) to just drip directly into mug or carafe.

In a pinch? I do it that way all the time. - FMM nm

I'd have to take the day off - true story

[ In Reply To ..]
I am addicted. I get excruciating headaches without caffeine. I have a stash of instant coffee just in case. I also have one in my car and one at my daughter's house. It's that bad.

New Day. New Coffee Maker. Good to Go!!! - Thanks for all the sympathy yesterday. NM

Keurig Coffee MakerJun 13, 2010
Had company a few weeks ago and they bought a Keurig coffee maker for us along with a variety of coffe "pods". So far, I have not found a coffee we like as much as Folger's 100% Columbian medium dark roast. All the ones we tried seem either too strong too acidic. Looking for suggestions on which coffee to try.  Not sure I would have purchased one of these "gadgets" as it is pricey and the "pods" are pricey, but it is nice for that first cup in the a.m. and even a late afternoon ...

Harry Reid Won't Rule Out Suing Exercise Equipment Maker Over His InjuryJan 22, 2015
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Thursday made his first public media appearance since an exercise mishap left him with a severely injured eye and four broken ribs. Reid had been working out with resistance bands in his new home earlier this month when one snapped, injuring his right eye and flinging him into a file cabinet, he said. The Nevada Democrat said he expected to be back to full speed soon, and that he planned to run for re-election. But while he was certain about his el ...

Got it - sipping my first cuppa cappy.  Works great, great foam, squirt of chocolate syrup, but nowhere can I find the amount of grounds to use (filling water to second line).  My first cup was ungodly weak so I tossed it.  This is better but still weaker than I liike.  How much grounds should I use?    ...

Coffee Craving!Dec 02, 2009
This is the halfway point in my workday.  I usually head to a local coffee shop for my fix.  My favorite this season is the pumpkin spice.  So delish!  I also like the creme brulee, but it's so sweet.  I hope there's something new on the menu today!  I'm going to get a muffin too. I'm having a fairly productive day and I'm going to toast to my co-workers in MT-land and wish you to have a good afternoon also!  Salute! ...

How Much Coffee Do You Drink A Day?Jan 23, 2014
Just curious to know how much coffee you are all drinking per day.  I have an espresso machine and I make 2 large lattes a day, both with about 4 shots of espresso each.  I will also have one cup of regular coffee in the late afternoon just to get my through my mind numbing job.  I'm wondering if I'm drinking too much?!!? ...

Coffee Time, Shipwrecked!Sep 16, 2011
Got my Mukka and my Kimbo Italian imported coffee and... WOW. My husband helped me figure out to set up the pot and it's just beyond amazing.  The espresso is excellent.  No diss to Starbucks, but THIS is espresso.  It seriously takes 4 minutes with the 2-cup model I purchased to have the perfect cappy right in front of you.  I'm still in awe at how the espresso brews from the bottom up through the fillter into the milk, heating it all to a perfect temperature.&nb ...

Brown Teeth From CoffeeMar 19, 2012
I saw how may coffee lovers we have on this board below, and I am certainly one of them, but I just can't stand how brown my teeth turn when I drink it. Any tips to keep this from happening? I brush twice a day, and I even gave up tea and coffee for a couple of months and my teeth turned back to white. I want to go for some interviews outside the house and don't want to be afraid of my smile. Dental treatments seem kind of pricey, but may go that route or else have to give up coffe ...

Happy Coffee LoverNov 24, 2012
I finally found the perfect coffee maker!  Since there's only me, and I only drink one large mug of coffee day, there's no point in making a whole pot of coffee.  I've never liked the single-cup makers with the proprietary pods, since you never really know how fresh the coffee is, besides being expensive.   Then I found the perfect maker - a Hamilton Beach Scoop.  It lets you use your own coffee, and requires no filters.  It lets you choose between&nb ...

Coffee Breaks Without Losing ProductivityOct 22, 2009
Thought I'd share -- I finally found a way to get a fresh cup of coffee in under 2 minutes (fingers not typing=no money)...  I found a great website that delivers single serve coffee makers & machines.  The machine brews in about 45 seconds, so I'm back at it faster.  What's even better, my 10-year-old can now make me a cup because it's so easy to use.  My 6 a.m. shift is a little easier now :) www.coffeemarvel.com   ...

Blueberry Sour Cream Coffee CakeApr 01, 2012
I just made the most scrumptious blueberry sour cream coffee cake. It was so moist and sweet, but not too sweet. DH told me it tasted like something we used to get in Germany. So I wanted to pass on the recipe if anyone is interested. I can't wait til later to have another piece. The recipe said to use a mixer, but I creamed the butter and sugar with a fork (my mixer is packed away), then I used a wire whisk to mix the rest. The Day The Music DiedJul 09, 2017
A stunning – and stunningly disturbing - event took place this past weekend. But unless you were scouring the news very carefully, chances are you didn't even hear of it. The annual Bravalla Festival, one of the most popular summer music concerts in Sweden, was abruptly canceled. There will be no festival next year. Or ever. Given that tens of thousands of tickets were sold, the problem was not attendance. Nor was there any difficulty booking big-name rap and rock stars. No, ...
