Keurig coffee maker

Posted: Jun 13, 2010

Had company a few weeks ago and they bought a Keurig coffee maker for us along with a variety of coffe "pods".

So far, I have not found a coffee we like as much as Folger's 100% Columbian medium dark roast. All the ones we tried seem either too strong too acidic. Looking for suggestions on which coffee to try.

Not sure I would have purchased one of these "gadgets" as it is pricey and the "pods" are pricey, but it is nice for that first cup in the a.m. and even a late afternoon pickmeup.

Thanks.

pods that you can make with the coffee of your choice in them. The coffee I particularly like is called Farmer Bros. but you can only find it on line. It is a restaurant coffee. I have gotten spoiled by it and do not like the commercial brands.

My mechanic has one of these at their shop - sm -

I am not really a coffee drinker as it upsets my stomach, and I am not crazy about the smell either, but I tried the hazelnut flavor while waiting for my car as I needed to wake up and loved it, and it did not upset my stomach either. I bought a cheaper alternative myself - Beach Hamilton machine, though I really did want a Keurig, that makes tea, coffee, etc with bags or grounds. So now I use that now for tea, cappacino, etc.

Actually it is Hamilton Beach....not awake yet- nm -

I want one of these so bad, but I have this fear that at some point the company will stop production and I wouldn't be able to get the pods anymore and would be stuck with yet another "must-have" kitchen gadget on our limited counter space, lol! I'm a total coffee/tea hound so I'd definitely get my money's worth, but every time my husband tries to buy me one I chicken out. It's an awesome little machine, though.

I did try the Gevalia plan about a year ago and was somewhat disappointed. I don't mind paying extra for a great coffee, but I didn't find Gevalia particularly "great."

Live and learn, I guess.

Now back to pondering if I should go for the Keurig, lol!

I have owned a Keurig for two years. I use the K cups with mine. It makes a great cup of coffee. There is four of us in my house with different schedules so It is worth the purchase. You can get K cups through Green Moutain and if you buy 4 boxes at a time you get free shipping or Amazon also has them. Cheaper than the grocery store. I would try the boxes that have different kinds and find one you really like. We do not waste coffee anymore and less trips to Dunkin Donuts. I do not use the tea K cups but instead put a tea bag in the bottom of the mug and press the button with no K cup and you get a nice hot cup of tea.

I put out the same "feelers" you did, asking my FaceBook friends and family if they had one and if they like it or regretted it. There wasn't a single person who was disappointed with theirs and that's when we decided to get one.

There is absolutely no more wasted coffee in this house. We are also much more judicious about drinking it too, which has been a good thing for our waistline and my husband's diabetes. We were going through at least 2 pots every day, with real cream and sugar.

Now with this machine, we do maybe 2 cups in the morning, with Splenda and either vanilla or hazelnut fat-free, sugar-free creamer (as per the dieticians strict orders), and now the coffee is a complete treat. Each cup is super fresh and savored instead of chugged, like we did before.

We buy a huge box of 80 K-Cups (Green Mountain) at a time at our local Sam's Club. I really wanted to try the chai tea I found at the grocery store, but 12 K-cups come in at nearly $8.00 and that just isn't justifiable to me.

Friends and family who visit LOVE the machine as well and no one ever feels bad about wanting a cup of coffee and worrying about brewing a whole pot that might go to waste.

Thanks for all of the input. The more I use my Keurig the more I like it. Also noted that we have gone from 2 pots to 2 cups each, with perhaps an afternoon treat such as Timothy's caramel vanilla nut. Did not think about Sams having the pods and as I am about to go to Sams for my monthly "shop" I will see what is available. Again, thanks to you all.

Question about your Keurig - Cocoa?

[ In Reply To ..]
Can you actually get those "K" cups with cappucino, hot cocoa, etc? I've heard they have a pretty vast selection of gourmet-type cappys and cocoas but haven't had a chance to investigate this for myself.

TIA!

They have a ton of different varieties right off the shelf. Another alternative is to buy on line. I've seen more and more K-cups show up in the grocery store as well, but for nearly double the price and half the amount.

I don't like the basket you can put your own coffee brand in...it's a pain to use. Knocking the grinds into the trash (sometimes piping hot if you want another cup right away), having a bunch of the grinds stick to the inside of it, washing it under the faucet...takes the convenience factor away for sure though.

Keurig - not just for coffee - Silly Girl

My husband LOVES it so we now have 2 coffee pots in the kitchen - that one and my old fashioned one with good ole Maxwell House - ha! Anyways, hubby likes Newman's Own and loves the Green Mountain variety. My 9-year-old and I do use the Keurig - but for hot chocolate in the wintertime. Sometimes I will pop a tea pod in there on a cold night as well.

Love my Keurig(s)! I have the mini at work on my desk and the regular size model at home. My favorite coffee is Seattle's Best Henry's Blend. They do not have pods for this brand, but I just use the adaptor. I also liked Caribou which is available in pods. You may just need to experiment a bit with different brands until you find the right one.

Where did you purchase your Keurig? - Do they have a website?

Can I ask where you purchased yours? I'd love a little single-shot one.

Thanks!

Since we last "talked" I have been doing some research in an effort to find K-cups at a better price. This is the best I have found so far: Amazon.com - They offer a variety of brands/flavors and if you sign up for their Subscribe & Save program the price is reduced by 15% and the shipping is free and fast. I ordered Timothy's Breakfast Blend, 50 K-cups, and on this program the cost was just under $19.00. You can select the frequency of shipments, 1 month, 2 months, etc. and can op o ...

Harry Reid Won't Rule Out Suing Exercise Equipment Maker Over His InjuryJan 22, 2015
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Thursday made his first public media appearance since an exercise mishap left him with a severely injured eye and four broken ribs. Reid had been working out with resistance bands in his new home earlier this month when one snapped, injuring his right eye and flinging him into a file cabinet, he said. The Nevada Democrat said he expected to be back to full speed soon, and that he planned to run for re-election. But while he was certain about his el ...

Coffee Craving!Dec 02, 2009
This is the halfway point in my workday.  I usually head to a local coffee shop for my fix.  My favorite this season is the pumpkin spice.  So delish!  I also like the creme brulee, but it's so sweet.  I hope there's something new on the menu today!  I'm going to get a muffin too. Blueberry Sour Cream Coffee CakeApr 01, 2012
I just made the most scrumptious blueberry sour cream coffee cake. It was so moist and sweet, but not too sweet. DH told me it tasted like something we used to get in Germany. So I wanted to pass on the recipe if anyone is interested. I can't wait til later to have another piece. The recipe said to use a mixer, but I creamed the butter and sugar with a fork (my mixer is packed away), then I used a wire whisk to mix the rest.
