What is the best way to clean a coffee maker?

[ In Reply To ..]Vinegar is the best. I also use it for my ice tea maker. Fill the maker about 3/4 full with white vinegar and run it like you're making a pot. After that, run a few cycles with fresh water, and it should look and taste much better.

[ In Reply To ..]But don't forget the pot, itself. I have a stainless steel thermos-type coffee pot with my coffeemaker. Glass pots clean up much easier, but the metal ones seem to accumulate a coating that has to be removed, and often, the openings to these pots are much too small to get your hand down into the pot to do a good scrub. I use denture cleaning tabs. I drop about 4 tablets in, fill with warm water and leave the pot to soak overnight. On a few occasions, the pot was soooo bad that I used TSP, which works very, very fast. The coffee tastes MUCH better when the film of old coffee is gone from the pot.
Hand it to DH and say, Honey, please...... - (DH is a better cleaner than I am). nm

Had company a few weeks ago and they bought a Keurig coffee maker for us along with a variety of coffe "pods". So far, I have not found a coffee we like as much as Folger's 100% Columbian medium dark roast. All the ones we tried seem either too strong too acidic. Looking for suggestions on which coffee to try. Not sure I would have purchased one of these "gadgets" as it is pricey and the "pods" are pricey, but it is nice for that first cup in the a.m. and even a late afternoon ...
