My dog died today

Posted: Dec 31, 2009

One of our dogs died today. My husband just found her in her dog house.  She was at least 15 years old.  She was the mother of two of my other dogs.  She was such a good dog.  I am so sad...just needed to tell somebody...thanks

Nothing can ever replace the friendship we have with our beloved pets. Having had two cats that died 10 years ago I still cannot think about them without crying of the loss. I know what you are feeling.

It's just a heart aching feeling I don't think one can ever get over.

Here is a link to a place called Rainbow Bridge - a pet loss grief site. I hope it helps to find some comfort for you.

Wish I had words that could make you feel better but I know how awful it feels to lose a beloved pet dog. Although some would say it is "abnormal," I have experienced more love from my dogs than with some people (and shed more tears when they died). It's a bond that only other dog owners/lovers can understand.

May it comfort you and your husband to know that there is a kindred spirit sitting at her computer keeping you both in prayer tonight.

I'm very sorry - LinK

I'm so very sadded for your loss. I have cats and for everyone that has died in the past, I still cry.

Today is my anniversary, my husband died 5 years ago, but I still have trouble getting over it. So, I really do understand.

God gave us memories so that we could have roses in December.

You will always have roses in December.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. It's heartbreaking to lose our "babies." They're such wonderful members of our families; they're truly angels. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss.

I feel your pain. I am still sad about my Lab Retriever that someone fed antifreeze to 6 months ago. I pray God will heal your heart, and you can remember her with smiles after the tears.

OMG. I am so very sorry. I had to have one of mine put down 3 months ago and still can't go into detail about it without bawling. Just know that Toby is at the Rainbow Bridge waiting for your dog. We're here for you. I know the pain, believe me. Again, I am so sorry.

So sorry... - clunybrown

I am so sorry for your loss and know how you feel. Having lost many animals over the years, I've found comfort in knowing that I gave each of them a good home and lots and lots of love. I know this will bring you comfort also. You and your family are in my thoughts.

So very sorry, hope your heart heals soon. - Wise.MT

I am so very sorry for your loss. We have a 16-year-old lab mix, she has issues, hip pain, has a hard time just sitting down onto her doggie bed, and she has potty problems. We want her to live with us as long as she shows us her pain is under control, she enjoys her food, is happy to see us, can get up on her own four feet. The rest we will help her with, as we love her dearly. Again, my most sincere sympathy, this is a hard thing to go through.

Are you active with any rescues? - VIkefantam

Are you currently active with any dog rescues or other animal rescues? If so, give me the info and I'll send a contribution in her name. If not, would you mind just giving me her first name and kind of dog and I'll send a donation in her memory to the rescue I'm involved with? (www.ohiopugrescue.com.)

It's going to be tough for awhile. I won't lie about that. It's been 3 months for me and I can't go into detail about it without bawling but it seems to ease just a little bit with time. But I think it's going to be a long time before it gets a lot better.

Remember the good times you had with her. And keep in mind that she's not in any pain, she's young and healthy again and she's at the Rainbow Bridge where the weather is always perfect, food has no calories and they can eat as much as they want, play as much as they want or sleep all the time (like mine do) if they want. She'll gladly be waiting for you.

You have a great heart. It's been about 2 years since I lost my miniature pinscher and it's still tough. She was no doubt my best friend. Had her for 15 years. There are still some days when I can still "smell her" and take the deepest of breaths . . .

Anyways, I liked your reply to bummed out.

Have a Happy New Year!

I thought it was the least I could do for the different animals I have had in my life, how much they meant to me. Some I wish I could have done more for, my last kittie when she got to where she could not jump or even walk, I was her legs. When she died someone sent me the Rainbow Bridge. I was grieving so much and cried my heart out when I read that. After a year my daughter and I can still get teary eyed thinking about her. To think about seeing them again is wonderful.

She is 13 years old, blind in one eye and the other eye is developing a cataract. I'm damn proud to be her eyes!

I want to thank each and everyone of you for your replies to my post. It helped me more than you will know. I have cried over your stories and I have read the Rainbow Bridge over and over. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. God bless you all!

Loving dogs, rescue story - Vikefantam

Just know that our hearts ache for you. I never knew the love of a dog. We were denied pets as kids. My dad couldn't stand the thought of a pet hair getting into our immaculate house. When DH and I bought our house, we opened it to a 5 lb. black pug puppy. We bought him and had a 45 minute drive home. He cowered in my lap as I reassured him. I thought he'd run under a piece of furniture and that'd be the last we'd see of him. Hubby dropped me off at home while he went to the store to get some supplies. I brought our little guy inside, put him down and watched him proceed to take over the house. I didn't know what to do with him. He bit us nonstop, drew blood from our fingers and toes constantly. He followed me everywhere. He refused to sleep unless he was rocked. He refused to be house trained, and though taken out during the night, pooped and peed in his crate, then slept in it. He got a bath every morning. I wanted so bad to take him back. Well, I got used to him following me around everywhere and nipping at my ankles and toes. I learned the value of crate time even though he barked and whined. He started to mature, and with puppy school, he learned some manners. He started growing up and didn't follow me all the time (just most of the time) and when he didn't, I went looking for him (it usually meant he was up to no good - LOL). He was house broken and still followed me almost all the time (still does). I found forums for pug owners and they assured me that he would calm down before age 2. Magically, at 21 months, he calmed down, and along came Maggie. Now, Bumper (I forgot to give you his name) is 8 years old and getting so gray. He is the most laid back dog I've ever seen and though I am very close to Maggie, I have such a close bond with Bumper. He was my first and I learned all about dogs from him. I made all my mistakes with him and feel bad because I was a lot more patient with Maggie but Bumper helped rear her. I think he knew I needed a little help in that department. LOL. He is the sweetest, kindest, most loving dog and nothing could ever break our bond. This was the dog I wanted to return. I know his every mood, expression, bark, whine, etc. And he (and Maggie) are so spoiled it's kinda sickening but I wouldn't have it any other way. My only wish for them is that they have the happiest life they can have.

Again, my heart does ache for you, having just put my rescue, Toby, down back in Sept. After I dug the hole in the shade, I held his little body next to mine and howled for a long time. I do know how you feel. It's an awful feeling but you know something? Even though I have to go through all this pain, I wouldn't give back the time I had with him for anything. And I'd do it all over again.

There is nothing in this world like loving a dog. It's unconditional.

I'll close with a true short story from a rescue in Australia. There was an abused pug. He was kicked around by neighborhood kids and ended up paralyzed. In another part of town, there was a man in a wheelchair, paralyzed from the waist down. The pug was rescued from that terrible home but would they find a home for a paralyzed pug? The man wanted a pug all his life but feared his status would prevent him from getting one. He contacted the rescue anyway and they matched him up with the paralyzed pug. Last I heard, they were seen all over town together, the pug riding on the man's lap while he cruised around town in his wheelchair. Sometimes life does bring good things. :-)

Let it out, hon. Tears are healing. You're in my prayers. God bless you.

I feel your pain. It's sad that he died outside in a doghouse by himself though. Was he tied up too?

The Day The Music DiedJul 09, 2017
A stunning – and stunningly disturbing - event took place this past weekend. But unless you were scouring the news very carefully, chances are you didn't even hear of it. The annual Bravalla Festival, one of the most popular summer music concerts in Sweden, was abruptly canceled. There will be no festival next year. Or ever. Given that tens of thousands of tickets were sold, the problem was not attendance. Nor was there any difficulty booking big-name rap and rock stars. No, ...

When The Obama Magic Died...articleNov 15, 2013
By Fouad Ajami Nov. 14, 2013 6:59 p.m. ET The current troubles of the Obama presidency can be read back into its beginnings. Rule by personal charisma has met its proper fate. The spell has been broken, and the magician stands exposed. We need no pollsters to tell us of the loss of faith in Mr. Obama's policies—and, more significantly, in the man himself. Charisma is like that. Crowds come together and they project their needs onto an imagined redeemer. The redeemer leaves ...

My Little Granddoggie, Batman, Died Yesterday And I Nov 03, 2015
My daughter is devastated. Batman was with her for 15 years, a little min-pen that actually looked like he had a mask on, thus his name. I am trying to see about how to prepare his grave a little better. A good friend's husband came over to her house last night, dug the grave and they buried the little doggie. I bought some lime to cover over the top of the grave and some lava rocks to go over that. My question is: I know a grave will settle, do not know how long that will be but should I g ...
