Posted: Sep 24, 2010

Do you have a bread machine you really like?  I've been using an Oster that was a gift, and its about worn out ( I never buy bread anymore), so looking at a possible investment here..  Anyone use a Zojirushi? A Cuisinart? West Bend? Panasonic?  Opinions, pros/cons would be much appreciated!!  Thank you Undecided

Do you have the full size or the mini? Model #? Is it worth every penny, or are there any down sides to the model?

forgot to say, but thanks for your answer. - no message

I wore the nonstick off pan of mine and was able to just reorder - a new pan. Saved lots of money that way. nm

bread machines - kneading

yeah, those are pretty handy.  i thought of getting one--just like that old-fashined way of doing it.  plus (if you're into that sorrt of thing), the kneading is a great work-out.

I just use my Kitchen Aid mixer to mix dough - sereneone

let it rise, punch down myself, rise again, and then shape dough. I had a bread maker once and got to where I only used it to mix dough anyway since I didn't like the crust I got. It would only do a soft crust, never a crispy/hard crust. When the bread machine died, we just got the Kitchen Aid stand mixer and it does the dough plus a whole bunch of other things.

Different ingredients result in a crispy crust or a soft crust. - nm

you can get some degree of crispiness on any loaf, regardless of ingredients, depending on the technique you use to bake it, i.e. stone, pan of water/ice cubes in oven, type of pan or not. Because of the way the bread machine cools, there's too much heat/steam built up in there to get any kind of crispness on the outside, just the soft crust like the inside only a little browner.
I beg to differ - sm

I can definitely can get a crispy crust using my bread machine. Using more sugar and/or sweetner can do it too. It probably also differs from machine to machine per reviews I read.

I use my KitchenAid mixer, as well... - Kendra

thought about buying a bread machine, but why? If I am really really lazy, because mixing the ingredients is not difficult, I can still buy the bread maker mix and use it in my mixer. I make fresh bread fairly often when my husband is home and I know from the past that if I had a bread maker, all I would use it for is to make dough because I prefer the way it turns out in the oven, so since I already have the KitchenAid, it would be a waste of money.

CPAP MACHINE (sleep Machine) Feb 21, 2010
I got one on Monday and for some reason I take it off at 3am. My DH said he came in later to check on me and I snoring like a logger. When I wore it in the hospital for the test, it was much more comfortable than this one. Maybe I keep the straps too tight so no air will blow out. And maybe after a while I will get more use to it. My DH has had one for about 10 yrs. and I always punched him when his machine made a sound but he hasn't punched me once. In your mind can you imagine 2 people in ...

Soggy BreadApr 09, 2011
Anyone know how to prevent my bread from getting soggy in my lunch?  I pack a lunch in a regular insulated lunch bag, using an ice pack to keep my stuff cool.  It doesn't seem to matter what kind of sandwich I pack or whether or not I leave my sandwich unassembled, my bread is soggy when I take it out of the plastic bag.  If I don't put in a plastic bag, it gets dry.  Any suggestions? ...

What Type Of Bread Is Okay??Aug 19, 2012
Hi all, I'm trying to be healthy lately. I've lost 18 pounds just being good.  Part of my reason for wanting to be healthy is, besides my weight, high sugar (not diabetes yet) and high cholesterol. I stopped eating white bread. I thought I had it made with whole-grain bread, since I love it, but then I read here and other places that it's not good, particularly in terms of insulin production. I also know that wheat has morphed such that I almost may as well be eating white ...

Banana. Bread. Beer.Feb 29, 2012
I'm taking a night of vacation tonight and thought I'd try this.  I've had chocolate stouts before.  Didn't know what to make of this.  There is a restaurant in Meers, OK, where you can get beer floats and beer milkshakes.  Dark beer works best. ...

Bread So Cheap At WalmartAug 19, 2010
Please someone telling me I am just being negative. I have started worrying about low prices at Walmart, because of hearing about their trade practices. Today I noticed the usual $2.78 loaf of multigrain bread that is my favorite, is reduced permanently to $2.50. I am wondering who is "taking the hit" for that 28-cent reduction. The bakery companies? Other local grocery stores usually have that bread for $3.50 or so, but often **on sale** at $2.50. Is Walmart's reduction an effort to s ...

Bread Making QuestionsJul 17, 2014
Years ago I loved to make bread and have several favorite recipes. I'm going to give up and get a bread maker.  I see they come with recipes, but I cannot tell if you can use your own recipes in them.  Does anyone have any experience with this.  One of my favorites is a receipe for Pioneer Bread which uses some corn meal.  It is not heavy like rye, which I understand does not work well in machines. Any advice on this would be appreciated.  I am becoming alarmed ab ...

Question About Little Bugs Flying Around BreadNov 15, 2010
Okay, last week I bought 2 sourdough rolls to make a little bowl to put some clam chowder in.  Got home and froze them in the bag they came in.  I took them out last night to thaw out and today I looked at the bag, which was still sealed shut (no holes in the bag anywhere), and I saw what looked like fruit flies (about 5 or 6 or so).  I took them out of the bag and put them on a plate and covered with saran wrap.   So here's my stupid question...are these sourdough rol ...

Type Of Rolls/bread Do You Serve At Thanksgiving?Nov 24, 2009
I prefer very soft rolls.  I like a certain type from the store that are just cheap little things but they are so good. (probably really bad for me but it's Thanksgiving after all).  I also like Costco's rolls, but the bag is so big.  I've made Pillsbury cresent rolls before but don't want to use the oven any more than I have to.  Do you make your own bisquits, do you use Pillsbury, frozen or just buy off the shelf?  Do you only serve one type? ...

Anyone Have A Good Lemon Bread/cake RecipeDec 24, 2009
Okay, just made a lemon bread.  It is moist but not as lemony as I would like.  Safeway makes a good lemony cake (or bread) thing.  So moist and lemony and I'd like to make something similar.  This recipe I just made called for 3/4 c. lemon yogurt and 1 tablepoon lemon rind.  It is moist but not a real lemon flavor (faint lemon flavor).   I tried another recipe using a lemon cake and added a box of lemon pudding.  Again, most but not real lemony.   ...

Elliptical MachineJul 05, 2011
I am  interested in getting some type of exercise equipment for home but I'm really cramped for space.  My knees bother me with walking or cycling and I was wondering about how elliptical machines affect knees.  I found one that is at a fairly reasonable price but it will be a little cramped space-wise, so I want to try to see how it might affect my knees before I go to the expense.  I'm in my late 50's and not physically active at all.  ...

Recommendations For New Sewing Machine - SmJul 26, 2014
My old 24-y/o Singer died Thursday.  No idea if it is the machine or the pedal, but really don't want to buy a pedal to see.  Looking for recommendations for a new machine, any brand, what you like about it, approx. cost if you recall, features, etc.  I don't do a ton of sewing (not a lot of time)  but make things from time to time, costumes, curtains, pillows, hemming, skirts/dresses at times.  Like something easy to use but with some bells and whistles, ...

Best Sewing Machine For No Problem With TensionApr 16, 2011
I want to buy a sewing machine.  My problem with sewing is managing the bobbin thread tension on most sewing machine.  I thought I'd ask for information from anyone who sews a lot their recommendation for a sewing machine with problem-free tension.  I don't need one that does everything, just a simple machine with a good straight stitch but a good one that I do not have to worry about the tension.  It's caused me to just totally quit even trying anymore.  ...

Repairing The Job Machine (More Jobs Under Obama Than Bush?)May 15, 2010
More jobs might be created this year than during George W. Bush's presidency. by Ronald Brownstein Saturday, May 15, 2010     If the economy produces jobs over the next eight months at the same pace as it did over the past four months, the nation will have created more jobs in 2010 alone than it did over the entire eight years of George W. Bush's presidency. That comparison comes with many footnotes and asterisks. But it shows how the economic debate between the parties ...

How CNN's Fake News Machine Ran Conspiracy Theories,Jun 29, 2017
In April, media types were crowing that CNN had brought in Eric Lichtblau who had been, in the Washington Post’s words, at “the forefront of the New York Times’s reporting on the relationship between the Trump presidential campaign and Russia.” It was “an investment in investigative reporting and the sprawling Russia story”. It didn’t take long for the investigative investment to sprawl badly. Lichtblau has resigned from CNN in a growing scandal over a Fake News story about a Tr ...
