Concert etiquette?

Posted: Oct 22, 2013

ARGH!!!!

Lady sitting next to me was QUITE LARGE.  She occupied all of her seat and a portion of mine.  when that happens, they ought to have to buy 2 seats to accommodate their large body habitus.

while waiting in line for bathroom, 2 ladies cut in line in front of me.  Yes, I did confront them and asked them to go to the end of the line and wait like the rest of us.  to which they replied "well everyone else is doing it."  I replied that "no, in fact, you are the only 2 that are" further "if everyone else did it, it still did not make it right for them."  I did end up getting out of the bathroom faster than them even after their jumping the line.

Upon leaving the concert, which was a sell-out, people were pushing and shoving.  The guy behind me was forcibly pushing me.  Finally, I turned around and said "hey, can't you see there is no where to go.  Please stop pushing me.  If you are in that big of a hurry, I'll let you go around."  I did and then gave him a big push.  Not one of my finer moments but WTF.

Get to the parking lot  and no one will let me out.  Finally, just inched my car out and forced my way in.

People are so rude.  It seems like it is getting worse.  A  lot of "Me first, I won't wait because I  am more important than you."

concert was great and glad I got to hear the Eagles yet again.  Don Henley rocks!!  Joe Walsh was crazy as usual.

This is why I stopped going to concerts. - They are a test of fortitude.

Especially if you're a fan of rock or metal, where the crowds can get rowdy.

I'd just rather watch a show on TV with my popcorn, snuggled up on my cozy sofa in my PJs.

I hate concerts - For those reasons

[ In Reply To ..]
I can't stand concerts. I just don't go anymore. I'd rather get a DVD-type recording and sit back in my easy chair with our surround-sound in our living room.

They don't make large people buy 2 seats because they it's discrimination. I really don't see it as discrimination, and if the large person doesn't understand that they DO take up 2 spaces, then I don't know what to say about that. Airlines have had that problem and caught holy heck for charging for 2 seats.

Rude concert attendees - sm

My daughter and I went to see Martina McBride several years ago and we had great floor seats and lo and behold, the entire row in front of us was empty! About 4 songs into the concert some very intoxicated people showed up to fill up that row and refused to sit the entire concert! I was so thoroughly disgusted.

The last time we saw Brooks & Dunn (my favorite all time) was during their farewell tour. The line to get into the concert was clear out to the freeway. We were in line at 5:30p; Gary Allen opened at 7:30; we finally got our car parked and into the venue after Gary was done with his set. I was seething mad and called the venue the next day but all I got was...you should have gotten here earlier, it is a very popular concert. I would think getting to the vicinity 3 hours ahead of the start time should be sufficient. There was absolutely no one directing traffic at all!

It is for that reason . . . - anon

That I will NOT purchase seats on the main floor. I think they should set aside a section for those who wish to remain standing for the concert. I, myself, cannot stand for 2-3 hours. Sadly, I remember when people cared about others insstead of the "Me first" attitude.

you expected manners at a rock concert? - gonewiththewind

[ In Reply To ..]
Yeah, pushing back, not your finest moment. Maybe God was testing you to see if you met his expectation of patience and kindness in you, and you lost.

DH and I go to as many rock concerts as we can afford. Just love seeing all these professional groups, many which we didn't get to see when we were younger. As far as the pushing etc., it just goes with the territory. No big problem for us. This year we've seen everyone from our favorite Bob Seger to Rush to the Eagles to Chicago, etc. Hoping to see Keith Urban if DH will agree. LOL.

I hate going to the movies, forget about concerts!! - hubby loves them, has been to 2

this year and set to go to another. not with me that's for sure.

Movies can sometimes be annoying - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
What with people checking their phones for text messages or texting, or even worse yet talking on the phone while you are trying to watch the movie. That darn little light the cell phone puts out can be quite bright. Don't know why some people can't go the length of the movie without it. Believe it is becoming an addiction of epidemic proportions for some.

I just say "I came to see the movie not your texts" - clb

[ In Reply To ..]
I live on my phone too but I put it away, as in on silent in my purse, during a movie, concert, church, restaurant, etc. No text or call is THAT important that it can't wait. If it was an emergency, they would leave a message anyway instead of text. I've complained at movie theaters to the workers there that a person is talking or texting or being obnoxious and got them kicked out. Maybe they'll learn. Why waste money on a movie if you're not gonna watch it? I got 2 preteens kicked out of a movie (not appropriate for kids IMO) due to talking and being little blankety blanks, and they got mad when they got kicked out and I said "you got a problem? have your mom talk to me." Didn't see them after the movie. Oh well. Someone thanked me too.

Manners, not so much, but wow, what a terrific mosh pit!

I don't do rock concerts - any more,

[ In Reply To ..]
but occasionally splurge and see a musical and patrons are very well mannered (for the price of a ticket, they should be). As far as movies, I try to go off hours and no problems... mostly elderly retirees and such. Would never go on Friday or Sat night. Btw, if you get a chance, see "Gravity" in IMAX 3D if possible... a simple story, but truly amazing movie.

Only for Toby Keith - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Only for my Toby would I subject myself to that level of frustration. You have more patience than I would have had.

The Eagles, though...man, I would probably go through it for them, too. Is Glenn Frey still in the band?

YES . . . - anon

Don Henley - LOVE that man!!!!
Timothy B. Schmitt (spelling?)
Joe Walsh
Bernie Leadon (from original)

Randy Meisner from the original is very ill and so could not make it.

Papers here are saying this is probably it for them. So glad I got to see them.

Also so the Rollling Stones and Fleetwood Mac this year. Those were 2 aawesome concerts as well.

I am not saying that what the concert goers did was right, but you are lucky one of the people you confronted was not waiting in the parking lot to jump you when you came out. I'm probably in the minority here, but sometimes it's better to just keep one's mouth shut and go with the flow. In regard to the overweight person, well, maybe you need to be a little more tolerant or maybe the theater needs to install bigger chairs, just saying. I have to say, that for all the rude people in the world, there are still plenty of considerate ones; people who let me go first in the grocery store checkout when I only have one item, people who let me in when I need to change lanes in traffic, there was even one person who paid for my Taco Bell order in the drive through as a random act of kindness, so I guess I am fortunate to live in a smaller town. If we focus on the bad in people we are certainly going to find it. I'm glad you still managed to enjoy the concert. I think the Eagles sold out years ago (one of the most overrated bands out there and definitely in it for the buck) and I wouldn't pay to see them, but that's just me.

What entertainer has not sold out? - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
Name me one that has not. They are all in it for the money or they would not be doing it.

The likelihood of bigger chairs, I believe, is slim to none. Smaller seats equates to more seats and more revenue.

We don't all like the same music. I am sure that some of the music you might enjoy I could find "overrated." Glad there are so many different types of music to choose from. One person's pleasure could be agony to another's ears.

When did it become okay to use the expression "WTF" in the MT Stars forum? You used the acronym, but we all know what it means.

What about some of the others's used? - birdy

[ In Reply To ..]
Such as LMAO or WTH? I think,at times, they are offensive as well. Those come to mind for me but I am sure there are others out there as well as equally offensive and inappropriate.

I don't text so I am "out of the loop" with all the acronyms/lingo.

Eagles Concert. sm - Love the Eagles

[ In Reply To ..]
DH and I saw the Eagles this summer. Really enjoyable show. Just love them despite the crazy high ticket costs. Lots of other entertainers charge even more, unfortunately. Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit are among my favorites.

I'm short, like 5'1". So, if anybody over 5'5" sits in front of me, I have to stand for the whole concert, which I do quite often since I like to rock out.

What you might try is asking the usher for another seat since your seat was being taken over. It's tough, but I'd rather have a heavy person next to me than the boat load of drunks we had when we went to see Kid Rock this year. Gross drunkards, but loved Kid Rock.

Kid Rock - anon

Seen Kid Rock twice. What a lot of energy at that concert.

Got to see the Rolling Stones and Fleetwood Mac this year as well. Guess I'm leaving no doubt as to my age range. HA.

Love concerts. Wish I had moeny to go to more.

Kid Has No Etiquette!Aug 20, 2013
My son's best friend is at our house quite a bit, along with other kids, we have kind of an open door policy with the kids friends.  The BFF of my son, this kid has zero etiquette and I'm not sure if I should say something to him or if that would make him feel bad or embarass him.  He is an only child, being raised by his grandparents and they do tend to spoil him.  At my house, like this weekend, I had a pack of 10 hotdogs that I cooked for 5 kids that were over.   ...

Etiquette QuestionJul 01, 2013
Just wondering what you ladies (or guys) thought about this.  My two kids generally have company over A LOT.  I have always had a policy that if I buy for one, I buy for all (meaning treats and such) while they are over at my house.  Well, my son has a friend, the boy is 13 and about a year ago his mom walked out, left the dad to raise him and since that time the dad has really spoiled the boy probably because of the situation or whatever.  When the boy's mom left, he st ...

Dating Etiquette Opinions Wanted (sm)Apr 06, 2010
I met a guy a year ago right after I separated from my husband & dated him a few times - he really liked me, but I decided I wasn't ready to get serious with anyone.  Fast forward to a year later.  We have reconnected and have been talking on the phone and texting. He is very nice and intelligent and attractive to me in many ways.  EXCEPT over the course of this year he has gotten a pretty good sized cavity on one of his top canine teeth.  He has a good job... Question About Baby Shower Etiquette.Jan 29, 2015
My friend is having her second baby and she decided that I should throw her baby shower this time.  I said sure and I suggested a diaper shower since this is her second baby in a relatively short period of time (2 years) and she has found out she is having the same sex, so in my mind at least, she already has all the "stuff."  She seemed very offended by this, so fine I decided to call it a baby shower and let people decide on their own.  Now my friend has taken to checking in wit ...

Going To A Concert...Feb 19, 2017
...and if people in front of me stand up to dance, wave their arms, or whatever, I'm going to spit. The reason for tiered seating is so that everyone can see the stage. U2 ConcertJun 29, 2015
Went to Chicago to see U2 last night. It was a sell-out crowd.  What a great group of musicians.  Had tickets to their 360 tour over 4 years ago but unable to attend as our home burned to ground and we lost our tickets.  Was really excited about going.  Enjoyed the music tremendously.  Unfortunately, the man in front of me chose to stand for the entire concert.  Quite a large man to say the least.  I politely leaned forward about 30-45 minutes into the show and ...

I was wondering what others normally do with sympathy cards at a wake. Thanks. ...
