A question about dog breed

Posted: Jun 1, 2010

Can anyone tell me for sure if the Jack Russell Terrier is the same breed as the Parson Russell Terrier?  One kennel club says they just changed the name of the breed.  I heard Ed Bivens of the American Kennel Club say they are two different breeds.  To me they look exactly the same.  Not too many years back they referred to this dog in the dog shows as the Parson Russell Terrier instead of the Jack Russell.  If, indeed they are two different breeds, why would they not show the Jack Russell any longer in the shows?  They only show the Parson.

Thanks!  It would be great to know for sure.  I spend a lot of time watching and attending the shows and know all the breeds and a lot about the jobs they were bred to do.  I would like to know for sure.

Thanks!

Aren't they adorable? They're really active and frisky and need lots of attention and exercise, so be prepared!

Here's a link to read about Parsons/Russell courtesy of AKC:

Sometimes it gets frustrating when you try to lean as much as you can, on any subject really, and you read conflicting comments. Westminster Kennel Club's David Frei said one year that the Am/Staf is the Pitbull. AKC said they are not. To me it is a Pitbull, which is a beautiful breed. Thanks again. The Parson is so cute you just want to kiss it's face off. They have more energy than a barrel of monkeys! When I come home from a show my face hurts from smiling and laughing at all the cute and wonderful breeds!!

I hear you on that...I have a chihuahua and a Chinese Crested - Both of them are like kids

[ In Reply To ..]
I love them both dearly, but the Chinese Crested takes crazy to a whole new level (in a GOOD way). She has 10 times more energy than any breed I've ever owned, is as sweet as she can be, and teaches herself new tricks all the time (my favorite is that she spends an inordinate amount of time walking straight up and down like a human...when we walk her, people stop on the street to laugh at her because my husband and I each hold one of her "hands" like she's a toddler, lol!). The chihuahua is really laid back and not shaky or snippy like they're stereotyped to be, so they're the perfect complement to each other and we refer to them as "sisters."

There have been a few breeds that AKC has seen the need to change the name of for some reason and I'm never quite clear as to why they do it. The Jack Parsons/Russell one stuck in my mind because a few years ago I had been contemplating getting a Parsons/Russell or a Brussels Griffon (the "As Good as it Gets" dog), so I was researching both breeds.

Glad I could help clear it up for you :-)

I just love the chinese Crested! I love the hairless and the powder puff. I love when they say the little hairless looks like a pony! My family has a Chihuahua mix. She totally cracks us up. She actually pulls the blanket and sheet down (neatly) for her daddy before he gets in bed! Then, of course she gets in bed, too!
LOL, her name is actually Poni! - My daughter named her
[ In Reply To ..]
They are very pony-like, even in the way they prance and shrug their "mane/forelock" around. She also leaps like a reindeer and can fly for a good 8-10 feet...except she's only a year old and doesn't always have her balance when she lands. She's the hairless variety and most people think she looks like "Stripe" from Gremlins at first glance, then as they watch her they see all her pony-like actions. Making her even more fun, I don't think she has an aggressive bone in her body. The chihuahua loves chasing squirrels and things like that (then just stares at them when she gets close to them), but the Crested has no interest in that kind of stuff. She's totally a sweetheart. She's a bed-sleeper too, although we move her to the couch with her own blanket, she still ends up between us, sometimes flat of her back with her head on the pillows too, by the time morning comes, lol! They really are a great little breed and can always make you smile, that's for sure!
What a Great name! - Christine

I can just see that little angel leaping like a reindeer! At the last dog show I attended in April I spoke to an breeder/owner of this breed who was holding her at the time. I got to feel that soft mane and her soft skin, and she was so adorable. I asked her (the dog LOL!) where she gets her hair done. The woman laughed and said that many people don't know the name of the breed. I have loved the Chinese Crested for some years now. You have riches greater than gold with your family and your extended canine family! Thanks for telling us all about them! You are the type owner that every animal deserves.

I just saw the information you sent on the little Parson. How adorable is THAT? One time a friend of mine, who owns 3 Daschunds when to a Daschund "race." If you ever want to laugh yourself sick you have to see one! One little tiny smooth Daschund had a little yellow "racing" coat on. When the race started he was busy smelling and looking around. All of a sudden he looked up and saw the others running and RACED to the finish line and won! He was so tiny and precious, and the crowd literally roared! Oh my gosh. I just love them all so much.

So do I - Dogs and puppies can ALWAYS make me smile

[ In Reply To ..]
I love cats, horses, birds, reptiles, etc., too, but there's just something about a dog or a puppy that can always make me smile. I think because they each have their own unique personalities and quirks, it makes them easy for "love at first sight," lol!

I'm always facinated at some people who think all social problems and situations are so black and white.Abortion is here to stay, whether it's legal or not, just like it's always been an option when a woman finds herself facing the impossible situation of an unwanted pregnancy. Cat Question Aug 05, 2011
Don't know if you remember my last posts awhile back about a stray cat we started feeding and took care, gave her shelter for the winter and she had kittens.  We've taken the kittens in and adore them all.  Now...here she is 3 or 4 months later, every once in awhile I'll get a glimpse of her nursing them.  Vet told us milk has to be dried up before they can fix her.  However, she is a stray and she has been going out walking around the neighborhood like she has ...

QuestionMar 22, 2010
Okay, here is a question that I have not seen come up here.  While watching news today this just crossed my mind.  If the government sets an insurance rate you have to pay based upon what you make per year, do they take into account all your other bills, and that sometimes as ICs we don't get any work coming in at times, and then what they set is more than what you can afford (i.e. more money than your paycheck and you still have to pay all your bills).  As ICs I'm sure ...

E-Bay QuestionNov 19, 2013
Hi everyone, I absolutely love Swarovski Crystal, in particular their earrings. I have a couple of pairs that I paid full price for, but they are too expensive. (Earrings run from $60-$300+.) I saw that E-Bay has a really nice selection, and you can just do a Buy Now for way under market price--I'm not into the bidding thing, BTW. Thing is, how do I REALLY know it's Swarovski?
