Just curious about a couple of opinions. First of all, I like to tan. I know the health risks, etc., but I enjoy the way the sun makes me feel and I enjoy my skin with a tan. We just recently moved to "town" into a neighborhood. I live in a small area. I have a fenced in backyard and the neighbor is pretty close and their yard is also fenced in with a separate fence, not even joining mine.

So, yesterday, beautiful day, I decide to lay out in the sun. I park my lounge chair close to the back of my house, not out in the middle of the yard or anything. I walked out to the lounge chair, with a towel wrapped around me and wrapped the towell back around me after tanning, to go back inside. I did wear a bikini, didn't undo the straps or anything, didn't parade around the yard in it, straight to chair, straight in.

Well, my neighbors are in their 70s and I would never be disrespectful to an elderly person. The husband went to his backyard and I didn't even look over there. He was up close to his fence, which is close to my fence, I am not sure what he was doing. The wife came out and got mad and was fussing at him. I just wrapped up in my towell and went inside. Another neighbor told me that the lady said I was "disrespectful" to be outside "half naked" and that they were offended by my actions.

I know it is my yard and I can lay out if I want, but I don't want them to feel I am disrespecting them, I just really want to tan. There are no local areas to go tan, such as a beach or lake or anything and I can't afford tanning beds when the sun is free.

Any opinions on what you would do?

Just keep tanning. These old folks don't have anything else to do but to pick on anything and everything. Let them gauk. You are not doing anything wrong.

what you do in the "privacy" of your own backyard is your business. unless you are swingin' from the trees or making an obvious "nuisance" they need to mind their own business. that is a peeping tom....especially since you mentioned the fences, made a point to be discrete....

I love to lay out, too. I won't go to a tanning booth, though, because I'm a bit of a germaphobe, lol.

In any event, if you are really concerned about being disrespectful, maybe wear a 1 piece or 2-piece that looks like 1 instead of a bikini? Chances are, however, you won't please your neighbor lady no matter what you wear.

My mil tans weekly because she's found it keeps her psoriasis under control.. maybe you could use that as an excuse to make your neighbor feel better about the fact you're out there? I wonder if her husband didn't cheat on her in the past, and so now she feels threatened and thinks any young, attractive "1/2 naked" woman is after her husband.

You could call me one of those old people as I fit in the age slot but my next door neighbors have each got out and done yard work, the guy in his bathing trunks only and his wife in her 2 piece bathing suit. Being as my work room faces window and they are in my view, hardly cannot see. I would not say anything to them but personally I wondered what the other neighbors thought of their dress. I think they look pretty tacky but hey, whatever they want.

Maybe his wife should be a little more "giving" and he wouldn't need to sneak around gauking.

No, I'm not a male. My hub gets plenty of lovin' and while he certainly looks, I give him no reason to be sneaking behind a fence.

Anyway, I say get a bush that would block where you lie.

Keep tanning, but if it was me I'd go to a Home Depot or Lowes and buy some bamboo privacy walls. They are not very expensive. DH and I have had them up for years and years. Keeps prying eyes out of our backyard, and makes for a really nice atmosphere. Also, maybe buy some big bushy trees for more privacy. I should learn how to attach a picture and I'd be happy to show you what our back yard fence area looks like.

Or what you could always do is hang up some rope and put a tarp up between yours and their fence, or we have wooden drying racks and I'd put them up and drape towels over them.

Nothing worse than trying to have some quiet time and get a few rays while in the background you know they are watching.

Used to LOVE to tan. - Now I have horrible wrinkles. :(

Wrinkles, skin cancer can happen---it doesn't show up until years later.

Anyway, if your bathing suit is extremely skimpy, you may be inviting a pervert to sit and stare at you. That's a little scary.

Actually, I would nix the towel and put a cover up or big shirt on instead. If I saw someone walking into the house with a towel wrapped around her, I would assume she was naked under there. Maybe that's how it all started.

Let's call this what it is ... your neighbor man is a peeping pervy voyeur. He got caught in the act by his gossip of a wife.

If you were not violating any laws or neighborhood covenants, you are fine. Continue with what you were doing.

You have no obligation to please your neighbor's wife. None. If she chooses to be critical of you, it is her problem. If it wasn't this, it would be something else. She is going to turn out to be a blaming fault-finder, mark my words. Nothing you can do will please her.

Just don't listen to her complaints. Ignore her. If you must address the issue, call it what it is ... it isn't your bathing suit, but his peeping. For which you are not responsible.

The suggestion about the bamboo fence is good. You might put some up on that side just so you aren't spied upon by the two of them. Every time you go into your yard, they will be peering out at you. Spare yourself!

IMO, you should not have to do anything, but understand what you are saying. If feasible, one idea is to place potted trees (nice and mobile) along the property line of those neighbors. I did this to block the view of my neighbor across the street. Just about every time he saw me in the backyard, he would run over to "chat." He is retired and would go on for hours if I let him.

Don't know if you remember my last posts awhile back about a stray cat we started feeding and took care, gave her shelter for the winter and she had kittens. Okay, here is a question that I have not seen come up here. While watching news today this just crossed my mind. If the government sets an insurance rate you have to pay based upon what you make per year, do they take into account all your other bills, and that sometimes as ICs we don't get any work coming in at times, and then what they set is more than what you can afford (i.e. more money than your paycheck and you still have to pay all your bills). To anyone who has any knowledge of Social Security benefits, I am wondering if an ex-spouse of a male veteran who has passed away can obtain "survivor benefits" (?) from Social Security if she has his children...even though he had been remarried at the time of his demise?? Due to huge fibroids, bilateral ovarian cysts, and a myriad of symptoms, I've been told I need a TAH. Doctor tells me I'll be out of work 6 weeks but as I'm an MT and just sit at my desk anyway, I don't see a 6-week absence as being necessary. One of my 2yo males has a cyst on the side of his head. I just noticed it this morning, it's about the size of a golfball and underneath his ear. Its not in his mouth. He is eating and drinking fine, doesn't seem to be in any pain. How could it have gotten this big without me seeing it? Anybody have any experience with these? Hi everyone, I absolutely love Swarovski Crystal, in particular their earrings. I have a couple of pairs that I paid full price for, but they are too expensive. (Earrings run from $60-$300+.) I have an insurance Marketplace question. If my income turns out to be higher than expected for 2017, will I have to pay a penalty? My family and I are selling our house and moving out of state, but our house is going to sell before we actually move, so we have to rent a house for about 6 months. So, I went to look at a house over the weekend and was amazed! For $1300 a month, it was a 3 bedroom house, very old, and a total wreck. I had to go to the doctor, and clinic is located in very small rural town (ie, pop 500). This time I saw the PA and happened to ask him a nonrelated question about bio-identical hormones. So far, this winter has been fairly mild for the most part and the lizards have not gone to wherever they usually go in the winter here in the south.
