E-Bay question
Posted: Nov 19, 2013
Hi everyone,
I absolutely love Swarovski Crystal, in particular their earrings. I have a couple of pairs that I paid full price for, but they are too expensive. (Earrings run from $60-$300+.)
I saw that E-Bay has a really nice selection, and you can just do a Buy Now for way under market price--I'm not into the bidding thing, BTW.
Thing is, how do I REALLY know it's Swarovski? Some of their jewelry is signed, and some of those posts say so, but not all their jewelry is signed so I wouldn't know even if I bought it and saw it with my own eyeballs.
I do know you can look at the Seller information and all, but I'm skeptical. And if it's a new Seller, they may not have enough information to make a determination anyway.
Any thoughts? I always thought E-Bay to be pretty on the up-and-up, but something like this, it would be easy to fool someone, or easy for the Seller to make a mistake and just THINK it's Swarovski. Any cut glass earring, it could be hard to tell the difference between that and the lead crystal of Swarovski, unless you know what you're doing.;

This reminds me a lot of how to judge a person's abilities as a medical transcriptionist (or any other category of worker for that matter) from a resume or a picture. I don't think it's 100% accurate.
However, if you do a google search with this:
.buy swarovski crystal jewelry on ebay.
it brings up some interesting links.

...funny, this info you sent came in just as I was browsing the Internet on how to spot a real Swarovski from a fake. It was very informative. Most of it, I would probably have to see the jewelry in person to have an up-close look at it.
The article had an illustration and everything of what to look for, and also some other little things to look for.
The article also had feedback from Swarovski lovers who got duped on e-bay. I would imagine it's possible the people who are selling it on e-bay, really do think it's authentic.
Apparently, there is A LOT of "fake" Swarovski around the world being sold as the real thing, and the only way to know what you are getting is to either buy from an actual Swarovski distributor (not just someone who puts the swan logo on the counter), or to really know what you're doing when checking it yourself, up close and in person with a magnifier.

and a lot of it is coming from China. I do use eBay a lot myself. If you buy on eBay, check the seller's return policy. If you can't return it and you are sure it is fake, file a dispute with eBay. I have done so myself with excellent results.
Thanks - OP

I may just skip buying something like that on eBay. Way too much trouble returning something and all that.
Fact of the matter is, it's almost impossible to tell by a picture. Another fact also is that people can take or use any real picture, and when you get the product, it's not the real McCoy.
I'll just put this stuff on my Christmas Wish List with family.

eBay brings the hammer down quickly and decisively on anybody caught selling counterfeit goods on their site. They won't hesitate to kick a seller off because of it.
From the sellers' perspective, we greatly fear even unknowingly listing counterfeit goods and go to great lengths to avoid it as even an honest mistake could shut us down. There is an eBay board of experts we can bring our item before, and they will confirm or deny its authenticity prior to it being listed.
Still, to be on the ultra safe side, you should only stick with eBay Top Rated Sellers (there is a badge next to their name to identify them) and only purchase signed Swarovski until you become expert enough to gauge authenticity from photos on your own. You can always request extra photos at multiple angles in direct sunlight from the seller, if need be.
Note: eBay has an excellent and easy returns policy, so nobody should ever fear or dread returning an item you aren't happy with. While it is true that some sellers won't accept returns, one of the strict requirements to become a Top Rated Seller is that you do so.

Cat Question Aug 05, 2011Don't know if you remember my last posts awhile back about a stray cat we started feeding and took care, gave her shelter for the winter and she had kittens. We've taken the kittens in and adore them all. Now...here she is 3 or 4 months later, every once in awhile I'll get a glimpse of her nursing them. Vet told us milk has to be dried up before they can fix her. However, she is a stray and she has been going out walking around the neighborhood like she has ...

QuestionMar 22, 2010Okay, here is a question that I have not seen come up here. While watching news today this just crossed my mind. If the government sets an insurance rate you have to pay based upon what you make per year, do they take into account all your other bills, and that sometimes as ICs we don't get any work coming in at times, and then what they set is more than what you can afford (i.e. more money than your paycheck and you still have to pay all your bills). As ICs I'm sure ...

Cat QuestionJun 06, 2012One of my 2yo males has a cyst on the side of his head. I just noticed it this morning, it's about the size of a golfball and underneath his ear. Its not in his mouth.
