seriously, will this turkey ever be thawed??

2 days in the fridge, it's still a brick -- a 22-pound brick.  now it's soaking in the sink, but the packaging says "don't thaw in water in the sink".  is that cuz it's butter-basted, or just cuz it's against the turkey-thawing rules?  looks like turkey-sicles on thursday --- help!

I just read this in my Sunday paper. The Turkey expert said it takes 24 hours per 4-5 pounds. So your's will take 4-5 days to thaw in refrigerator. He just says to keep it in the original unopened wrap. Cooking time for that is 4-1/2 to 5 hours and to test if it is done insert food thermometer in thickest part of thigh, not touching any bone, reaches 165 degrees F.

I would be very careful about taking it out of the package and just putting in cold water in the sink. You could search more on the internet as to why... Good luck

in cold water. You want to be sure the turkey is fully enclosed in the plastic or whatever, you donĂ¢€™t thaw it just in its naked state. I have seen my mother thaw them like this and I am still around. It is douable but you want to change the water probably every 30 minutes or so and it is cold water you want.

Quick thaw a frozen turkey - Put turkey in original bag in Igloo type cooler. Fill with water (I use the water hose) to cover turkey. Every 3-4 hours, open drain spout, drain cold water and cover with tap water. Do this the day before, regrigerate over night and cook in the morning.

Easy Thawing Method - Simply place your frozen turkey into a sink or large container filled with cold water. Every hour you replace the cold water until the turkey is thawed. Just make sure the entire bird is submerged under water.

You can spread more salmonella and other bacteria washing raw poultry.
