Okay, let's have a show of hands. (sm)

Who will be watching the so-called president on TV tonight for his latest round of promises and lies?

Not me.

;

not me - nana7

[ In Reply To ..]
I would rather clean my toilet.

I will be watching and I don't think he "lies" - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Convenient for the bashers when their own Republican party screws up every idea the president has ever put forth, and when things don't turn out as the platform outlined (not promised or guaranteed/thus not lied), then they accuse the President of lying. Absolutely ridiculous, another talking head, Right Wing buzzword.

Yes, I have every intention of watching, and it sounds like it could be a good one too.

Did you hear the Pope will be addressing Congress in September? I think that should prove to be very entertaining/embarrassing for the Republicans also.

I would think it might be more embarrassing for Catholics. - nm

nm

did I miss something here? - nana7

[ In Reply To ..]
I am Catholic and why would I need to be embarrassed?
I don't follow him that closely, but isn't he (sm) - me
[ In Reply To ..]
sounding a lot like a Socialist? Taking from the rich to give to the poor type thing? And changing stance on gay marriage? I don't think a lot of Catholics are very happy about all that.
The rich need to be taken down a few notches. - Wait a minute. A LOT of notches.
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
Many think the Pope has become too liberal - to represent the Republican
[ In Reply To ..]
Catholics. Many instances:

Gay marriage
Poverty
War
Respect for other religions

This does not mean this fits your thoughts, it is just the main stream division points.

I don't even want to begin to argue over Catholicism and whether or not a conservative can be Catholic with this Pope, but there has been a lot of push back with this Pope and his liberalism.

I have seen a lot of liberal thinking that he is the most Christian Pope ever.
no fight here. - nana7
[ In Reply To ..]
I am a Catholic with a gay son. So that tells you where I fit in.

I do believe this Pope is one of the most open minded Pope's we have ever had. For a Pope to take a stance other than normal on gay marriage speaks volumes where I am concerned. He believes in change and is leading the way to make that change happen. At least it is open for discussion with him.
Kudos to you Nana7 - nm
[ In Reply To ..]
I hope this Pope can open some eyes and minds.
Here is an example (sm) - nm
[ In Reply To ..]
Catholics do not need to "breed like rabbits." Hard to believe the Pope said that, but he does have some very socialist ideas. I am no longer a Catholic. I now consider myself Methodist for the last say 30 years, but I liked this Pope right away. He will forge ahead with some change. Not all change is a bad thing.
There's part of our problem. Government should - NOT be paying attention to the Pope.
[ In Reply To ..]
You know, that whole "separation of Church and State" thang.....

Does "if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor" - Ring a bell? LOL

[ In Reply To ..]
Can't blame that on Republicans.

Can't blame that on the President either - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
but insurance companies are still making record profits!
Oh, excuse me? That lie did not come out of his own mouth? - was there a ventriloquist involved?
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
If ACA had been passed the way it was - intended, there would be no issue
[ In Reply To ..]
regarding "lying." The insurance companies have hijacked as many portions as they can, and they are backed by the Republicans they have purchased.

Call your insurance company about keeping your doctor. Or maybe just your money-hungry doctor and whether he wishes to participate in the plans available.

Our doctor joined a concierge network to guarantee his network. Membership fees will guarantee his income, not patient care.
and why wasn't it passed "as intended?" Please explain. - Excuses, excuses. (sm)
[ In Reply To ..]
It was passed EXACTLY as intended.
Um, I think the Republican Obstructionist Party - had a wee bit to do with that.
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
How? - nm
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
Well, how do you think? - nm
[ In Reply To ..]

That has little to do with the President, and - everything to do with ins. companies.

[ In Reply To ..]

You're joking, right? LOL - not I said the - fly.

[ In Reply To ..]
nm

I would rather watch paint dry.... - it doesn't lie every day...

[ In Reply To ..]
Listening to Obama is a waste of my time.

So sad not willing to listen to original source - but rather their favorite pundit

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm sure those channels will be tuned in to Fox afterwards to get the "low down"---emphasis on low.

Why not listen to the original source and form opinions. I defy a person to not think that healthcare for more Americans, lower unemployment, lower gas prices, less servicemen in harm's way and the possibilities of college education for everyone and tax cuts for our income level to be good.

I understand they all have attachments, but it is not as bad as your pundits have convinced you.

And, once again, it does not constitute a lie if the people (Congress) that you expect to support logical polices does not come through (i.e. they get bought off by the corporations such as gas and oil and insurance).

That's silly. I'm not watching, but "my favorite pundit" (sm) - LM

[ In Reply To ..]
will play parts of the speech over and over again, ad nauseam. I am capable of forming my own thoughts, so no, he doesn't tell me what to think. Besides, if I watch that man for more than 5 minutes, I become nauseated.

You've got to be kidding. (sm) - msg

[ In Reply To ..]
You "defy" anyone? OMG. Ok.
1. More Americans do not have healthcare. They have health insurance, but many doctors do not accept Medicaid.
2. Unemployment is not lower. There are more PT workers and many have given up looking for work or didn't want it in the first place.
3. President has nothing to do with lower gas prices.
4. The "children" who get out of college now can't find jobs in this crappy economy. And we taxpayers are supposed to WANT to pay more for "free" education for college? Come on, think about this. Is he offering help for trade schools? What's so good about a college education if you can't find a job.
5. Last but not least, the tax "cuts" as you call them will not help the middle class. Even the lower income people will end up paying more. More for earned income credit for illegals not working, for one.

I can listen to the president, - NPC

[ In Reply To ..]
listen to your pundits on your stations, listen to whatever sound bytes they want to play and still come up with my own opinion that BO is a liar and a socialist. Does that help you understand the way most* people feel about this man? It doesn't matter how you spin it. You can't put lipstick on a pig.

* most based on polling data and those with "buyer's remorse"

I expect some trolling backlash to this post, but I will not be responding. Have a nice day and enjoy your evening listening to your president.

You expect some "trolling backlash" to your post? - seriously?

[ In Reply To ..]
I guess "trolling backlash" = disagreement or a view that doesn't coincide with yours. It smacks of a deep-seated immaturity for you to post something and then refuse to discuss it further. Why even bother to post in the first place?
Why...? You just proved why. - Have a nice day.
[ In Reply To ..]
How can one have a discussion with someone when they're accused of having "deep-seated immaturity." You people always resort to name calling. You just can't help yourselves. It's pitiful. This is why we would like to have our own board, to have "mature" discussions without posters being called names. Call public figures names, yes, but not each other. I won't report you, but I should.
You go girl. - nm
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
Yes, go. Please! - nm
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
Please report me. I'm quaking in my boots. - seriously?
[ In Reply To ..]
It is immature to post something and then declare that you won't discuss it further.
Looks to me like you have no respect for authority. - Therefore, you must be a liberal.
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
"No respect for authority"... ooooo, SCARY. - That how the US was born, ya know.
[ In Reply To ..]
Well, I declare. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
According to whose standards? Yours?

Sorry, I don't live by YOUR rules.
And the rest of us don't live by YOURS. - Checkmate.
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
That's the Red SIgnature: "End of story." - "Period." "End of discussion."
[ In Reply To ..]

That last sentence is an oxymoron! lol - LM

[ In Reply To ..]

"Most" people do not feel this way--approval - rating heading up --sm

and only some are extremists believing he is a "liar" and a "socialist."

Did Anyone Catch The Beck Show? Not His Usual ShowNov 13, 2009
If anyone didn't catch it, I'd encourage you to watch it this weekend.  It wasn't his usual show that everyone hates.  He had an audience (not sure if there were any white people, mostly African-American) and they were talking about issues and problems.  Most of them voted for Obama and they discussed issues going on.  It was very interesting. One guy showed Obama where he grew up in the Harlam and what it was like for him growing up.  It was just a very g ...

Shaking HandsMay 24, 2010
This is a silly pet peeve of mine.  First let me say that I don't like the "turn around and greet your neighbor" in church where everyone shakes hands.  Immediately afterwards I have a strong urge to wash my hands, and try to remember to bring the antiseptic wipes.   It is not healthy, but here's my main issue (As Jane Velez-Mitchell would say)   I always thought that women should not shake hands.  To me it is just a manly thing to do, and just t ...

Time to break the silence on Saturday's GOP debate.  This article was published in the Telegraph.  IMO, GOP foreign policy debate sank to slightly below the national disgrace level.  Republican hopefuls would go to war with Iran Mitt Romney, the favourite to clinch the party's candidacy, said that he would direct US forces to pre-emptively strike Iran's nuclear facilities if "crippling sanctions" failed to block their ambitions. Conversations - Do You Speak With Your Hands?Jul 01, 2010
When you are talking with your family and freinds do you talk with your hands (move them around to illustrate what you are saying).  My DH does.  In fact I don't think he can't, and there are times where he'll say to me "are you watching" and he wants me to watch his hands.  Sometimes I have to stop myself from laughing.    I on the other hand do NOT talk with my hands.  I tried it once and it felt very unatural.  On top of that DH asked me wha ...

Sorta OCD Kid, Chapped HandsApr 29, 2013
Hey friends, I have a slightly worrisome growing dilemma.  My 14yo son has always been somewhat over-zealous about hand washing, but of late it has become quite a problem.  I remember telling my friends about this a couple of years ago, but now the repercussions have become severe.  He washes his hands wayyyy too often.  Just in the time after school and before bed it's at least 12 to 15 times, with more during the day at school.  I try to buy him moisturizing hand ...
