I have found a new beer

Posted: Apr 18, 2013

WASHINGTON -- Adolphus Busch IV, heir to the Busch family brewing fortune, resigned his lifetime membership in the National Rifle Association on Thursday, writing in a letter to NRA President David Keene, "I fail to see how the NRA can disregard the overwhelming will of its members who see background checks as reasonable."

The resignation, first reported by KSDK, came a day after the Senate rejected a series of amendments to a gun control bill, including a bipartisan deal to expand background checks for gun sales. The NRA had vigorously opposed all those measures.

"The NRA I see today has undermined the values upon which it was established," wrote Busch. "Your current strategic focus clearly places priority on the needs of gun and ammunition manufacturers while disregarding the opinions of your 4 million individual members."

You have found a FAMILY of beers :-) - Missy

My beer-nursing go-to has always been Bud Light, but by no means are you restricting your beer options by choosing to be loyal made in USA Anhueser-Busch customer.

Thank you for posting this!!!

Beck's and Lowenbrau and Rolling Rock? Cool. - sm

I actually quite like Michelob Lager too, but shhh, please don't tell. ;)

I agree with his brave stance... - anon

and I applaud his position, but to drink Budweiser would take me being in the middle of an apocalypse having not had a drop of liquid in upwards of a month or so. It is simply terrible, terrible beer.

No!!! See my post above, they sell a bevy of beers :-) nm - missy

Yeah - but

[ In Reply To ..]
alcohol is involved in a lot of shootings, so maybe he should stop making beer also.

Which is the weapon? - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
The gun is the instrument that produces the damage, not the beer. If you don't have a gun, but have a can of beer, you can't kill someone. If you have a gun, but not the beer, you can kill someone. The beer or alcohol alone does not kill other people. A gun can produce loss of life. Lots of beer may cause personal damage, but if you bring a round of 100 beers into a classroom, it doesn't have the potential of a massacre.

Hmm - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
A gun alone does not kill people. It takes a person to use the gun to kill people. Do your research on how many alcohol-related deaths there are each year in this country versus gun-related deaths.

What can a person with a can of beer do with said can of beer that would kill someone?

What can a person with a gun do with that said gun that would kill someone?

Alcoholism can result in death, but not the death of anyone besides the one who consumes it, and certainly would not result in the massacre of a room full of children.
You can - twist
[ In Reply To ..]
it however you want, but people who drink "massacre" a whole lot more people than guns do.
I guess we're talking about two different things - then
[ In Reply To ..]
I'm talking about a gun that blows people apart physically.

You're talking about an addiction, the victims of which (family members, loved ones, etc.) that blows people apart emotionally, spiritually, and mentally.

I'm not denying that, but the gun also affects victims (those left behind after the gun violence) the same way the victims of the alcoholic. At least with the alcoholic, you get a chance to reach out to them somehow, but a trigger is pulled in a blink of an eye.
No - I'm not
[ In Reply To ..]
I'm talking about how many idiots get drunk and go out and kill people on the roads. Again, twist it any way you want, but the fact is alcohol causes more deaths than guns, either to an individual or others. Also, you can be driving down the road and a drunk can take your life in the "blink of an eye!"
You're right - I misunderstood
[ In Reply To ..]
And it is illegal to drive drunk. Awareness and vigilance has been increased over the years, check points, TV ads, recovery from DUI convictions expensive and lengthy. And cooperation from alcohol vendors urging people to drink responsibly, ads for same, warnings on the product, perks for designated drivers.

But it seems like instead of making guns safer to own by making or just maintaining stricter laws, it's going in the opposite direction.
In my - opinion
[ In Reply To ..]
I don't see gun laws going in the wrong direction. I see a more violent society. Most of these sicko's would get guns legally or illegally. As far as the Sandy Hook incident, that sicko had no business having access to guns. That had nothing to do with gun laws, that had to do with a mother who allowed her sicko kid access to weapons. I am one that does consider the mother a victim of the shooting, as many don't, but she used very poor judgment. Some of the crimes, both alcohol-related and gun shootings are due to family and society breakdown, not needing more laws.
So then is it okay to loosen drunk driving - laws?
[ In Reply To ..]
Irresponsible, crazy people are going to get their hands on alcohol and drive, so why should we penalize everyone else with checkpoints, air waves cluttered with responsible drinking ads, and pesky DUI penalties for those who get caught driving under the influence even if they don't actually cause anyone harm?

Maybe we should start a campaign to loosen drunk driving laws. I bet it would be very popular, especially amongst victims of a drunk driving life-changing incidents.
I give - up
[ In Reply To ..]
I did not say that at all. Just forget it, you think what you want.
and you do the same... at least we were - civil :-) nm

I find this funny. Left wingers hate the rich, tax them into oblivion and take their profit away from them to give to the people who make free stuff their career....but you'll support them by buying the product they make.

I'm a - left-winger

[ In Reply To ..]
and you certainly aren't describing me. Right wingers hate the middle class/poor, tax them into oblivion while giving the rich tax breaks and don't care to stop them from sending all our jobs overseas so the rich can buy more houses and starve the rest of us out.

right. - sm

The left hate the rich. The left want free stuff. Keep repeating it to yourself.

The OP was remarking that she supports the statement made and action taken by the Busch brewing family regarding the NRA.

A corporation finally puts its money where its mouth is, and you have a problem with this? It's amazing how you can turn participation in the political process into the same, sorry indictments of the left. I find this funny.

The attackers, who targeted the warehouse on the outskirts of the northern city of Monterrey, got away with a paltry 10,000 pesos in cash, or $650, sources close to the investigation said. Nuevo Leon State Attorney General Javier Flores said that authorities are investigating the possibility that the attack involved organized crime. Drugs and a weapon were found at the ...

Found Something In My PieJan 30, 2012
Last night I purchased a pie from a large chain grocery store that bakes on the premises and whose reputation is very good. I bought it for the others in my house, but decided to taste it this morning after they raved about it. I put my fork around what felt like a large chocolate chunk, put it in my mouth, and it turned out to be a metal frosting decorator tip. I didn't bite it or swallow it, as I was going to let it melt in my mouth to just savor the one bite I was going to indulge in. ...

With such a tight race between Obama and Romney, I got to thinking what would happen if neither candidate got 270 electoral votes.  For anyone who cares...this is what I found: What happens if no presidential candidate gets 270 Electoral votes? Each state delegation has one vote. The Senate would elect the Vice ...

I found this posting elsewhere and I wonder why nobody has had the courage to state this before, anywhere. I am posting it here to hopefully give some insightful thought into recent occurrences concerning Syria and the United States: "It's weird how Obama wants to avenge the deaths of a bunch of Muslims in Syria, but not the deaths of OUR people in Benghazi." This kind of puts perspective on where exactly the loyalties of this current "president" lies... certainly not with the peo ...

very interesting insight... When I was a child growing up in the late 1940s and early 1950s one of my favorite radio programs was the continuing saga of The Lone Ranger. What CNN Found Hidden In ObamacareJan 09, 2013
by AWR Hawkins 9 Jan 2013, 12:24 PM PDT Good news -- it has become known that hidden deep within the massive 2800-page bill called Obamacare there is a Senate Amendment protecting the right to keep and bear arms. It seems that in their haste to cram socialized medicine down the throats of the American people, then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Barack Obama overlooked Senate amendment 3276, Sec. 2716, part c. According to reports, that amendment says the government cannot collect " ...
