found something in my pie

Last night I purchased a pie from a large chain grocery store that bakes on the premises and whose reputation is very good. I bought it for the others in my house, but decided to taste it this morning after they raved about it. I put my fork around what felt like a large chocolate chunk, put it in my mouth, and it turned out to be a metal frosting decorator tip. I didn't bite it or swallow it, as I was going to let it melt in my mouth to just savor the one bite I was going to indulge in. It soon was obvious it was not a chunk of chocolate. I'm very happy one of the more voracious eaters in my house didn't happen upon it... I'm torn about what to do. Well, I know I'm not going to do anything because I didn't get hurt, don't want to put someone out of a job, because this just might do it, but at the same time, and being an MT where quality assurance can be make or break, I feel like I should. But I won't. Just was wondering what others might do.;

[ In Reply To ..]Everyone is so paranoid these days about making mistakes. We all make mistakes. I definitely would report this. If it is a big pie shop, there were probably several bakers on the day the pie was made. However, if mom and pop shop may just one pie baker is there. In any case, they need to know to be more careful and you will probably get a free pie out of the deal. I do not think anyone will get fired because of a mistake, or at least I hope this is not what the American worker has to worry about.

[ In Reply To ..]It's very nice of you not to be litigious...these days, people take offense so quickly and are ready to call a lawyer. Once I picked up a prescription from CVS. When I got hope and looked in the bottle, the pills were a different size and color than I expected. I did a search online and discovered that someone had a made a huge boo-boo. I called the pharmacy right away, and the pharmacist almost had a heart attack. I knew that the ramifications could be serious, but I just took it back and let them kiss my feet for a short while. They gave me the right pills, and I went on with my life. Ho hum.
OTOH, if you hadn't savored that bite, and instead broken a tooth...well, then...I probably wouldn't take action, but I would ask them to pay the dental bill for sure. They'll probably realize the error of their ways, and I see a fresh pie (or 2) in your future.

[ In Reply To ..]I would definitely bring the pie back and with the frosting tip. Tell them up front you don't want to get anyone fired you just want them to be more careful. When you do this ask to speak the person in charge of the bakery. If you bring it to the front desk they will probably just mark it damaged and the bakery will never know. Let us know how you make out.

[ In Reply To ..]I will take it back. All suggestions make sense. But I won't be returning the pie. That was literally the last piece left. I had cut a piece and set it aside for my son's girlfriend to take home, but she forgot it. That was where the tip was. I'm glad she didn't take it because she'd be getting a new set of teeth! ;-)

[ In Reply To ..]I wouldn't want to get anyone into trouble, either, but I shudder at the thought that such an object would definitely be a choking hazard for a child who was eating like there was no tomorrow (I've seen young kids devour stuff in record time with minimal, if any, chewing, lol!).
The safety factor would be the deciding factor for me. You might even get some very nice coupons or store giftcard for your troubles as well.

Well it turns out that the store brand is made by Sara Lee and that company looked into it and said they were salt pellets that didn't mix in right.
They gave me enough free coupons to cover my baking needs for 2 years! I wasn't asking for anything in return, just was concerned about user safety.

Years and years ago when Coke changed the bottom of their 2-litet to some strange shape rather than just a flat bottom, and they kept falling over in my fridge, I called the toll-free number irate. I just wanted to tell them, and was hoping others had the same complaint, that the design was just not workable, hoping they'd change it.
Same thing you described... sent me MULTIPLE free coupons for Coke. Guess it wasn't so bad when FREE bottles kept tumbling over!
