I found a new home for my dog - to anyone who was interested.

Posted: Sep 1, 2010

It was a difficult decision, but I decided to avoid worrying about whether or not she could or would escape any fence I would build and then there's the worrying she may bite someone else and have to be put down.  Anyway, within four hours of my ad appearing in the local paper, I had met a nice couple who live on 20 acres and have another boxer and they were looking for a playmate.  I took my baby to their house so I could check it out and everything looked great.

And then I cried all the way home.

Sorry your heart is breaking. You obviously have a big heart, making the decision to give your dog to a home away from the people she knows and loves too. It was a good decision though, and in time I hope you see that. 20 acres and a playmate sounds like a great life for your pup. Take care.

You're a good pet mom.. sm - Gigi

You did the best thing you knew how to do. That doggy will be happy and well cared for AND have a brother or sister.. you did a GREAT thing. I know it feels bad now, but it will get easier and pretty soon you'll be able to think about her and smile thinking about the two of them running around and having fun..

My heart goes out to you and I hope you feel settled about your decision soon. Best of luck to you...

Oh, I'm sorry. Maybe some day you can get a pup who won't be such an escape artist. - Amy

I'm glad it worked out okay.

I'm sure it was a tough decision - Old part-timer

But it sounds like your dog will have a great home with plenty of room to run and you won't have to worry about her breaking away again.

Don't feel too sad. You didn't have to put her down and she's probably having a great time right now!

I'm so sorry for how this turned out - sm

It doesn't seem as though this was a recurring issue, and I don't know what we've come to when one mistake (using a weak cable) can lead to a judge threatening to kill an animal. Humans make mistakes all the time with far lesser repercussions than the mistake you and your dog made.

And I think you were treated abominably on that other thread, as well as by the victim and judge. Everyone is so judgmental (no pun) nowadays, angry at everyone else, they think everything that happens is a personal affront to them and they get self-righteous and angry about it, they mock and insult... then tell YOU you're not allowed to get upset.

Again, I am sorry. I hope everything works out for your family and your dog at his new home.

I dearly love dogs, too. I grew up with boxers. I hope you know that you made a very loving decision for this dog and that knowing this will help heal your heart.

I'm so sorry to hear that. - Happy MT Robin

I just read the rest of your thread where you explained what happened. That is definitely one of those fluke things and I think the lady absolutely over reacted. It's heartbreaking, but I'm glad you found what sounds like a really good home.

There but for the grace of God - - escape artist

My heart goes out to you! I have an escape artist of my own, a completely loveable 8 year old Golden. We have a huge fenced-in yard but still have to keep him on a chain when he's outside because no fence will hold him. When he's gotten out (breaking chain, etc) he's been so lucky to have not been killed. I can't imagine if he ever bit anyone.

I'm so glad you've found a good home for yours, but it must be killing you to have to let her go. Please accept my condolences.

I'm so sorry - Ann

you had to make the decision to give up your precious baby.

I hope the knowledge that your pet will now be in a safer environment with a good family and a playmate will ease your pain and help you come to terms with your decision.

You did the best thing possible for your dog. I hope before along another dog who needs your love will find you.

Thank you to all these wonderful replies. What a far - LoriMT

cry from the posters below. I feel better today and probably will feel even better tomorrow.

Of course now my daughter has asked me for a guinea pig to ease her sadness. Ugh! :)

That's because your post was far different - candi

You accepted responsibility. I don't think any of the posters below wanted to see you lose your pet. I hope you and your family are able to make peace with it.

I always accepted my responsibility in the situation. - LoriMT

I just expected that people would see that while I know I'm responsible, I expected a little understanding how upsetting the situation was all around, for the lady who was bitten, for me, and for my dog.

Instead I got "shame on you" because my dog broke her line. I already felt bad. The entire situation made me feel bad on several different levels. I posted to help myself sort through the situation, my options, and my decision making process. I thought maybe I find a little objectivity here. Instead was made to feel worse.

But whatever. It's done. My dog is gone and doing great, I'm told. So I made the right decision even amidst all the criticism.

PS - guinea pigs - escape artist

We had a guinea pig as a companion for our rabbit, and he was actually a wonderful pet! We kept them in our dog's old kennel in the kitchen and let them run around the house with supervision. Lots of fun, and he actually lived to the ripe old age of 7! You could do worse.

Starting a new thread because the old one is too hard to follow any more. You've got me doing more googling than I ever intended but that is a good thing.  Total cost of health care in this country was up to 2.3 trillion a couple of years ago and undoubtedly higher now.  Frivolous law suits accounted for only 1 to 1.5% of the costs and unnecessary tests an even smaller percentage at 6.8 billion.  I couldn't copy the link but if you google frivolous lawsuits health care ...

For Those Of You Interested In Concierge Medicine, Mar 30, 2017
ObamaCare. Working directly with his patients and cutting out the insurance and government bureaucrats, lowers costs for the patients and increases the quality of care they receive. This shows how free market solutions can cut healthcare costs. This is the way out of the healthcare trap, and ironically it's being driven by doctors themselves who want to be doctors rather than insurance administrators. So-called "concierge medicine" is available in most areas and the number of doctors ...

Don't know if any of you have ever watched the "Morning Meeting" with Dylan Rattigan on MSNBC (9:00 a.m. Eastern time), but I would highly suggest watching it.  He is very angry about what's going on in the economy (from banks "too big to fail" to the "public option"), but instead of bashing Obama, he refers to the culprit as "the government," since we all know when this really started and how many administrations are really involved.  Rattigan used to be on CNBC but is now o ...
