100 examples of wasteful spending in 2010. This is the problem and both parties have had a major hand in it. You all wanna talk about raising taxes and blaming republicans, but as you can see from this link.....revenue is a very small part of the problem. Obviously many politicians have had no problem with spending our money without batting an eyelash. Many want to blame Bush for his tax cuts. Fine...I didn't agree with the tax cuts either. They might have worked if we hadn't been spending so much money at the time with 2 wars, etc. However, I don't see the people who were against said tax cuts giving extra money in taxes. As much as many complained, I didn't see them ignore the tax cuts and pay more taxes voluntarily. Our biggest revenue problem is when we have loopholes that are so outrageous that companies like GE can get away with not paying any taxes at all.
Many of you talk about companies making more money and yet still aren't hiring because they are greedy. Obviously none of you have run a business. My husband runs a business. He has seen improvement and yes...they have made more money here recently but with the economy so unstable no business person in their right mind would sink more money into hiring employees when they don't know what the future economy holds. It is called covering your butt and saving money for a rainy day. If they invested their money and hired more people, they could potentially have to fire or lay off a lot of people when the pooh hits the fan again....and let's face it folks...the pooh is hitting the fan again. We are heading for a double dip...and I'm not talking about the good ice cream cone kind either...although and double dip mint chocolate chip cone sounds pretty good right about now.
This "debt crisis" didn't happen in just 1 day. This has been a snowball that has gotten bigger and bigger over the years. I wouldn't have a problem going back to the tax rate back during Clinton's administration. However, the economy is so bad it will hurt us initially. I do believe the best way to get more revenue is to close some of these loopholes that everyone abuses and uses when they can, but I doubt many politicians are gonna go for that since some of their biggest money supporters use those loopholes themselves...like Immelt...ya know...Obama's GE buddy. But obviously there is a HUGE wasteful spending problem. I believe we should go through this waste before we even talk about entitlement reform....which I believe should be looked into as well. If we could get those people who are able to work from mooching from the government and actually work themselves....perhaps we could really help those who need the assistance. However, we need jobs here in the US for that to work too.
Thanks for the rant...but check out the list of waste in 2010.
;the rent and transportation expenses back and forth, which would probably cost at least as much, if not more. That way the arrangement could be much less convenient and considerably less secure, but at least it would silence the whiners and, after all, that's what matters the most, huh?
As you can see from the aerial view below, their current adjacent location allows the SS to have a direct view of the access road to the property and all the grounds that surround the residence 24/7, an advantage that would be lost should they have to commute. Edwin Donovan, SS agent, said after Biden's mom, who had lived in the cottage, died in January, Biden offered to rent it to the SS, but they declined. At that time, they were already leasing an apartment nearby. Another tenant rented it and after she moved out, the SS approached Biden about renting it (not the other way around) since leasing the house was a unique opportunity for the agents to more efficiently protect Biden and the property. Specifically, Donovan said, "Logistically and security-wise, this is much better for us."
Fact: The SS pays rent for housing regardless of who the landlord is. Fact: The SS is required by law to protect former, current and future national leaders and their families. Fact: Biden is charging the same as the previous tenant paid, not more, so apparently the amount is what the market will bear. Fact: That price for a rental property in a wooded, secluded, exclusive waterfront property in DE is not excessive and actually sounds like quite a bargain. Fact: The whiners will try their best to make a mountain out of this molehill.
As an afterthought, I see no reason why Biden should not receive rent on a rental property, just like he did before and just like he could if the SS were not occupying the cottage. Nor do I see any reason the SS should not pay rent on this particular rental property, since they customarily pay rent in any other location. Personally, I would much prefer to live in a waterfront cottage on a 4-acre wood spread than in an apartment building any day, especially if I could gain the added advantage of making my job easier and more effective.
