afraid to take clonazepam for sleep...

Posted: Oct 27, 2014

Doc says to take 0.5 of clonazepam to help me sleep, but I'm so phobic of any meds...I'm very anxious, hence the insomnia. Any encouragement us helpful.

Try taking just half of that tablet - ZvilleMT

I did the anxiety/insomnia thing a year or so ago and tried all the homeopathic stuff first and nothing really worked. My doctor gave me 0.5 mg of Xanax and even though I too don't like to take meds, I took a half a tablet and it really worked - the anxiety subsided just enough that I could sleep. Since then, I've incorporated a lavender essential oil diffuser in my room at night - this is a very relaxing scent - and I only take the Xanax now if I've had a really rough day.

Here's where I get the essential oils from: http://www.organicinfusionswholesale.com/essential-oils/
I don't use their diffusers - they're a little pricy, but you can get diffusers that work just as well at Wal-Mart - even the ones with the vase and the sticks work really well. And when you get sick, you can add the lavender to a humidifier.

Hope this helps and here's to you getting some sleep!!

What about an antihistamine? Non-addictive, too. - n/m

I would try a little Benadryl first. IMO, it is much safer. Diphenhydramine does have some mild mood-improving qualities, which might help as well. Look for children's chewable at Target or Walmart. It contains only 12.5 mg, half the adult tablet. One should do the trick and you should be awake in the morning. If you can't find chewable, it does come in liquid form.

The newer antihistamines, like Claritin and Allegra, are nonsedating, so they won't work.

PS: (Original antihistamine suggester): - Most work for about 8 hours - (sm)

and if you don't have enough time to sleep, you can wake up groggy. I found the answer: It's a 4-hour allergy pill (i.e., antihistamine) which is perfect for my needs. Just last night I couldn't get to sleep because I had too much on my mind to worry about, plus an aching leg. At 4:00 a.m. I finally got up and took 2 aspirin for the leg, and the 4-hour allergy pill for sleep, and woke up feeling great this morning.

There is also a product called "MidNite PM" that is more of an herbal sleep aid combined with melatonin.
Ingredients: Melatonin 1.5 mg; bromelian 20 mg; plus lemon balm, chamomile and lavendar. The instructions say to allow for at least 3 hours of sleep after taking.

try KnockOut by Schiff, online, it is a combo of alternative herbals and works like a charm, and no after effects. Good Luck.

I have been taking clonazepam 0.5 mg for years. It was my wonder drug when I had severe anxiety many years ago and I am never without it. The dose is minimal so I have never been addicted. Try it and see how it works for you. It did for me!

you should be afraid... - you'll soon be addicted and fat to boot!

tell him you'll pass...yes, antihistamine and Dramamine...any night-time pill made by any of the companies...I take one but not two in a pack--two gives me nightmares. If you wake up in 4 hours in the middle of the night, very common...take another 1/2 Dramamine or night-time, antih, etc., if you're awake at 4 am. This is very common in women between 35 and I don't even know how old...I'm almost 50 and I've had this for years. Most people I know have a degree of insomnia. GL and you don't need dangerous, prescription drugs for this ordinary problem. Now go to bed!

I take Ambien to sleep. Been taking it for years but every once in a while I go on an Ambien holiday to decrease tolerance. Personally I'd avoid benzos. Try some Benadryl or generic Unisom, etc. GL!

I take it as needed for anxiety and sleep. - sm

the exact same dose you have and it doesn't bother me not one bit. I go days without taking and sometimes I go through a period where I may need to take it every single day for a week or two straight and when the anxiety gets better then I quit taking it unless I have trouble sleeping. Works for me, no addiction here.

thank you for all the advice.... - nm

I'm a big believer in the wonders of drugs. And antihistamines stop working for me after about three days.

Frankly, the doctor may have prescribed it for your anxiety and he sees the insomnia as secondary. Klonopin works for 24 hours.

Had To Put My Cat Montgomery To SleepMay 13, 2011
Right now i'm trying to escape intellectually but I cried hysterically when I took him in to get euthanized.  He has been through a lot with me, an awesome cat, even knew how to play fetch.  He stopped eating a couple days ago and started breathing heavily this morning with brownish drool.  He is usually very affectionate but wanted to be off by himself and was not responding, even to tuna and I have a way to say his name that makes him perk up and he would not even resp ...

Sleep-eating? Feb 28, 2011
Okay, so my husband has been eating in his sleep.  Sometimes he remembers doing it, and sometimes he doesn’t.  And he eats really weird things.  For a while there, he would drink pancake syrup right out of the bottle multiple times a week.  Last night, he “woke up” standing over the kitchen sink, eating a plate full of sour cream.  Could his sleeping pills be causing this?  ...

Yesterday I cut out early on the festivities and was home by 4pm. I came home and snuggled up in my cozy bed and turned to my favorite channel (Investigative Discovery) by 6pm I was in la-la land. Got up with hubby this morning at 6:30 and shortly after he left went back to bed and slept until my daughter dropped off the grandbaby at 11 this morning. I got ...

Have To Share After Having The Best Nights Sleep I Have Had In Years ... (sm)Oct 04, 2010
Hubby and I bought a new mattress over the weekend, it is a Serta Memory Foam mattress.  We actually purchased this at Big Lots of all places, regular $1000.00 and we paid $400.00.  I have had problems with my back for the last several years and generally toss, turn and wake up several times during the night, to the point of finally giving up, getting up and getting on the sofa.  Last night I was extremely skeptical, went to bed and when I laid down on the mattress I felt like I w ...

Had To Put Our Beloved Golden To Sleep This Morning.May 11, 2011
Our golden retriever, Samson, was 12-1/2 years old.  He's meant so much to our family.  They discovered a tumor a year ago that we chose not to explore because he had renal failure and the anesthesia could have killed him.  Evidently it metastasized to his brain and possibly his spine, and a few days ago he lost the use of his hind legs.  Last night he started having seizures.  He went from 94 to about 72 pounds in the last year.  We took him to the vet ER ...

What Are Republicans Afraid Of If Every Eligible AmericanAug 19, 2012
Why are they going to such great lengths to limit voters' ability to cast their vote for their chosen candidate--enacting voter I.D. laws in some states and limiting early voting hours, specifically in Ohio, so that they eliminate the weekend time that would be the most convenient to some urban voters.
