Afraid Again!

Posted: May 8, 2014

Seems I spend my life worrying.  Wednesday I had a stress echo.   The docor said my valves are good, and most of the heart had a good "squeezing action."   Then he told me a small area of the heart did not react normally, and it was indicative of not getting the proper blood supply.  He said the probability of blockage is very high.  Now he is sending me for a cardiac cath.  Anyone out there who has had the procedure?   I know my friend does not remember her procedure, but my nephew heard everything the doctor said.  He watched the procedure on the monitor, which I do not wish to do.  My nephew had stent placement x3.   Thanks so much!

usually seem to go well and don't take a lot of time. I know I am not a doctor but trying to make you feel better. My dad had a blockage and I don't recall what they did but he turned out healthier after the surgery. The blockage really frightened my dad, so after that he really watched his diet and ate a lot more fruit, especially apples, and gave up butter, bacon and whole milk which he loved.

Good luck to you and let us know how things turn out.

I've had 2 cardiac caths. It's scary approaching it, since you know what they do, as a transcriptionist. But not to worry! The drugs they give you are great and get rid of the fear and I would say the only pain was insertion of the IV! And when I go for this kind of stuff I just say outright, "I do not want to know what's going on," or something similar and sure enough I have not been "awake" for either one. I think they gave me enough to make me not remember. I am a total coward and I admit it up front.

Thank you both - Christine

I appreciate your replies and support. It is very reassuring. I am also going to tell the cardiologist on Monday at consultation that "I don't want to know what is happening." My stress level now with life in general is at the top. This on top of everything else is getting to be too much. Thanks again. Wish me luck!

I had one 12/2012 after I failed my stress test - sm - XXX

They thought I had a blockage in my LAD, talk about being freaked out about that. I was 47 then. Plan was to go in, remove the blockage and place a stent. I was able to have them use my radial artery as I did not want them using my femoral artery. Remember going in the room, very cold, positioning my right arm, strapping it down, nice warm blankets on me, then out, next thing I knew I was in back in the bed in the room they prepped you in. All done, I had nothing wrong with me, nice and clear, no blockages. So I worried for nothing, of which I am grateful. Least now I know what to expect now if I ever have to have one again. I still have a little scar on my wrist where they went in though its been 18 months. Still have high BP but least I know I have no blockages now. Doubt my DH's insurance company was too happy paying that bill, lol.

Happy for you - Christine

Glad to hear your test was clear. My doctor was pretty certain I have blockage. Thanks so much for sharing your experience. I am glad I posted about this because everyone has made me feel better! I think I will do fine, but I will be very nervous, I am sure.

What you might want to ask - before you go in

is what your doc's plan is if a stent is needed. Most of the stents they put in when there is a blockage are the mesh drug-eluting stents which absolutely require the patient be on Plavix for a full one year following the stent. For myself, if I were to need a stent, I would only consent to a bare-metal stent that does not require the Plavix for a year. The risk of going off the Plavix before the year is up for the drug-eluting stents is apparently quite high for blood clots. Offhand, I don't know exactly what the drugs are that the stents elude, but it apparently increases risks of blood clots. Just thought you might want to know this so you can ask, because usually if you don't ask, they put the drug-eluting stent in. The Plavix is still brand and can be costly.

What Are Republicans Afraid Of If Every Eligible AmericanAug 19, 2012
Why are they going to such great lengths to limit voters' ability to cast their vote for their chosen candidate--enacting voter I.D. laws in some states and limiting early voting hours, specifically in Ohio, so that they eliminate the weekend time that would be the most convenient to some urban voters. I thought every patriotic American wants ALL of their fellow Americans to be able to exercise this very basic right.  I believe they're afraid that if every eligible voter in ...
