I hope not. It was scary enough having to duck and cover in the 50s when I was young and Khrushchev wasn't as crazy as this guy is.
What happen?? Tell us more!? Did you have - to put dark material over the windows?
[ In Reply To ..]
I heard someone said at night, they couldn't have the lights on and if they did, they had to use a certain type of material to cover the windows because if light did shine through the windows at night, they could be bombed. What else did you have to do?

I think you're thinking of WWII. We didn't have to do that except maybe on the West Coast, I'm not sure. We did have air raid drills in school, where we would all have to get under our desks and cover our heads. As if that would help. Ha ha .
No, even in the '50s, we had air raid drills at home and in school - Truthhurts

I'm not on either coast but live in the east. We had to do that through the '50s and when Kruschev was in power, they set up the fallout shelters. Families that could afford in my area had their own bomb shelters.
The towns held air raid drills during the days when people were out and about and we had to find the nearest shelter and go to them ASAP.
Being ridiculed about the air raids isn't funny and those who do don't know history and or how close we came to WWIII back then.
History repeats itself is a very good quote and today's times remind me of back then except most of the world is now our enemy and those that aren't are just going to "sit it out" and not give us aid if we would be attacked. People better wake up.
You're confusing the Cuban Missle Crisis with - blackouts during WWII.

My father enlisted. He didn't have to be drafted.
Where would we get enough men and women who would not just be selfish and let others join the armies. Just would not happen the way most of the children in this country have been raised plus the politicization by this president, if you can call him that.

there are still some brave young people. I just read an article in Psychology Today about declining student resilience.
"A year ago I received an invitation from the head of Counseling Services at a major university to join faculty and administrators for discussions about how to deal with the decline in resilience among students. At the first meeting, we learned that emergency calls to Counseling had more than doubled over the past five years. Students are increasingly seeking help for, and apparently having emotional crises over, problems of everyday life. Recent examples mentioned included a student who felt traumatized because her roommate had called her a “bitch” and two students who had sought counseling because they had seen a mouse in their off-campus apartment. The latter two also called the police, who kindly arrived and set a mousetrap for them.
Faculty at the meetings noted that students’ emotional fragility has become a serious problem when in comes to grading. Some said they had grown afraid to give low grades for poor performance, because of the subsequent emotional crises they would have to deal with in their offices."
