Anybody else sleep alot?

Posted: Dec 26, 2013

Yesterday I cut out early on the festivities and was home by 4pm. I came home and snuggled up in my cozy bed and turned to my favorite channel (Investigative Discovery) by 6pm I was in la-la land. Hubby came home about 8 and I set up with him until he fell asleep around at around 10, browsed MT stars till about 11 and went back to bed. Got up with hubby this morning at 6:30 and shortly after he left went back to bed and slept until my daughter dropped off the grandbaby at 11 this morning. I got up and played with her for a bit and then she fell asleep and so did I. Now hubby will be home shortly and is expecting me to have dinner made, which I haven't even started and in all honesty would like to nothing better but to shower and get back in bed and watch my favorite channel and be sleep for the night no later than 8...uugghhh!!! I have been in a funk for about 2 weeks and all I want to do in my free time is sleep or lay in bed. And when I sleep, I sleep really good, like Im tired and my body needs it, but I have never slept this much.;

fatigue due to low vitamin D level - my experience

[ In Reply To ..]

You might ask your doctor to check your vitamin D level.  I had the same sleepiness and fatigue you're describing, mainly in the last couple months since we hardly have any sun in my area.  Doctor ran a vitamin D level and found mine to be 25% of what it should be.  She has me on a prescription strength of 50,000 IU twice a week for 4 weeks and then will recheck it.  Keep in mind that an average dose of vitamin D in an OTC supplement is 400 IU, so 50,000 IU sounds outrageous.  That's why I only take it twice a week for 4 weeks.  I've only taken 2 doses so far....too soon to notice a difference.  She said the best way to get vitamin D is from the sun, 15 minutes a day, letting the sunlight in through your eyes and face.

I agree on the vitamin D - wheres_my_job

Last winter was really bad - I didn't go to see a doctor about it until the spring though - I got a vitamin D prescription, I think for 4 weeks, big doses - I noticed a huge improvement quickly.

This year I'm trying to be proactive, and I've started taking vitamin D now, instead of waiting until March. Also getting out in the sun is great too, but I wear sunglasses if the sun is blinding.

I got 3 likes so Im not alone! I will be going to - the doctor in week and

will mention the vitamin D thing to my doc. In the meantime, I will pick some up from the store tomorrow after work and see if that helps. Thanks for your replies.

Glad you're going to the doc - see msg

Glad you're not self-diagnosing. I wouldn't take too much of the vitamin D until you make sure that's what the problem is.

Mild depression can cause one to sleep too much, too. If you were severely depressed, there would be no question in your mind if you were depressed or not.

Good luck. Any number of things can wear us out that only a doc can diagnose with blood tests, etc.

I felt like crud one time, and finally went to the doc. Turns out, I had a UTI and never knew it! I had no blood in my urine, no burning, no frequent urination or any of the other common symptoms. He took blood and urine to get the diagnosis, then gave me some antibiotics, and within 3 days I felt back to almost normal.

Your doctor must smile when you walk in - you're his golden goose!

Sleep apnea? Depression? (sm) - Rose

[ In Reply To ..]
I have sleep apnea. My father had it and I suspected I did so rather than have an expensive sleep study I just set a tape recorder on the night stand and then listened in the morning. My snores told me that I was stopping breathing about 3 times per minute. This can cause extreme fatigue. You might want to try this.

Since it sounds like new onset, perhaps it is just situational depression. Hope you can discuss that with your doc too and see if a trial of an antidepressant might bring you out of it.

Good luck to you.

Yeah it's so much better to take an antidepressant - than a vitamin -nm

you don't understand how depression works - or you would not be so insulting

Vitamins will help you feeling your best from a physical perspective, but when the chemicals in your body are out of balance causing depression, a prescribed medication will put them back into balance. Vitamins don't work that way.

If a person needs an antidepressant, we should not make them feel bad about asking for help.
I think what the poster was trying to get at - was
[ In Reply To ..]
trying the vitamins Before jumping on the antidepressant band wagon.

Speaking from personal experience, I got a handle on my depression by increasing by vitamin D and vitamin B levels, as well as my physical activity level. Antidepressants didn't work well for me.

There was a TEDx talk about curing depression through better health - wheres_my_job

socialization, exercise (interesting perspective on "working out" rather than just going for a walk with a friend), omega-3 fish oil, etc.

Went for a long walk today in the sunshine and cold - even took my sunglasses off for parts of it - it was great.

Stephen Ilardi is the name of the researcher who gave the TEdx talk, if you want to check it out.

Gosh Darn - see msg

So, you'd rather someone diagnosis themself with a vitamin deficiency than check with a doc?

The poster's point was that it could be depression, not a vitamin deficiency, as all you "self diagnosers" and "natural" "non-drug" people would like to believe. OP could also have an underlying infection, autoimmune situation, etc.

I personally do not believe in medicating mild depression with drugs (including so-called natural herbs, plants, roots, whatever). Even just plain old exercise can help with that.

Poster should go to a doctor, get some blood work, have a full physical, and let the medical person advise from there.

Yes, go to the doctor, get diagnosed - wheres_my_job

although be prepared, depending on the doctor and the health care situation you find yourself in, you might just be offered a script for an antidepressant, with NO discussion of exercise, vitamin levels, etc.

Luckily for me, when I went to a doctor last Spring, he DID advise me to take vitamin D - and it DID work wonders!

Could also be thyroid problem, etc. So yes, go and get diagnosed.
My doctor does encourage me to exercise, eat - healthy etc. sm

I also had blood work done about a month ago and everything looked good.

I go back for a follow-up in less than 2 weeks. In already on an antidepressant but haven't been taking it regularly so that may have something to do with it. In going to also start taking a multibillion daily and using my treadmill at least 3x a wk.
EXCUSE typos please..posting on my - phone and it auto corrects

Had To Put My Cat Montgomery To SleepMay 13, 2011
Right now i'm trying to escape intellectually but I cried hysterically when I took him in to get euthanized.  He has been through a lot with me, an awesome cat, even knew how to play fetch.  He stopped eating a couple days ago and started breathing heavily this morning with brownish drool.  He is usually very affectionate but wanted to be off by himself and was not responding, even to tuna and I have a way to say his name that makes him perk up and he would not even resp ...

Sleep-eating? Feb 28, 2011
Okay, so my husband has been eating in his sleep.  Sometimes he remembers doing it, and sometimes he doesn’t.  And he eats really weird things.  For a while there, he would drink pancake syrup right out of the bottle multiple times a week.  Last night, he “woke up” standing over the kitchen sink, eating a plate full of sour cream.  Could his sleeping pills be causing this?  ...

Have To Share After Having The Best Nights Sleep I Have Had In Years ... (sm)Oct 04, 2010
Hubby and I bought a new mattress over the weekend, it is a Serta Memory Foam mattress.  We actually purchased this at Big Lots of all places, regular $1000.00 and we paid $400.00.  I have had problems with my back for the last several years and generally toss, turn and wake up several times during the night, to the point of finally giving up, getting up and getting on the sofa.  Last night I was extremely skeptical, went to bed and when I laid down on the mattress I felt like I w ...

Had To Put Our Beloved Golden To Sleep This Morning.May 11, 2011
Our golden retriever, Samson, was 12-1/2 years old.  He's meant so much to our family.  They discovered a tumor a year ago that we chose not to explore because he had renal failure and the anesthesia could have killed him.  Evidently it metastasized to his brain and possibly his spine, and a few days ago he lost the use of his hind legs.  Last night he started having seizures.  He went from 94 to about 72 pounds in the last year.  We took him to the vet ER ...

CPAP MACHINE (sleep Machine) Feb 21, 2010
I got one on Monday and for some reason I take it off at 3am. My DH said he came in later to check on me and I snoring like a logger. When I wore it in the hospital for the test, it was much more comfortable than this one. Maybe I keep the straps too tight so no air will blow out. And maybe after a while I will get more use to it. My DH has had one for about 10 yrs. and I always punched him when his machine made a sound but he hasn't punched me once. In your mind can you imagine 2 people in ...
