What is the cut off dollar rate you think someone should make to consider getting a transplant "wrong". 50K, 250K. I'd like to know what you think would be a fair amount that if someone makes under that it's okay for them to get a transplant and if you make over that amount it's "wrong" for you to get a transplant.

Here are some things to think about.

1. Mr. Cheney waited the appropriate amount of time and in fact he waited longer than others on the list.

2. Nobody knows if our tax money paid for his HT, which I've heard it didn't, so in that case its nobody's business.

3. You don't know what his insurance company covered. I would imagine they have very good insurance.

4. He is a family member and his family is equally deserving as any other families to have their loved one get a heart transplant.

5. Lastly, whether you like it or not he was the VP of the United States. That position comes with certain privileges whether you like it or not. I'm quite sure the President and the Vice president, along with the Secretary of State, House speaker, and all congress men and women have excellent health coverage. He is no less deserving of the same health coverage that Biden or Gore or any other VP gets.

BTW, I find your comment about the people who write the laws racist. I'm sure there are plenty of black, Asian, Hispanic and other races and women who write laws. Just because a law benefits someone who is Caucasion doesn't mean it was written by "rich white guys". And I don't think there is a law that only VP Cheney gets to have a heart transplant and everyone else suffers.

I also worked in a facility that began screening for people needing heart tranplants. As I stated earlier, I have seen almost no facts regarding transplants and how they are carried out, but one sickening, hate-filled comment after another. I think a lot of these comments come from people that are so starved for attention, they will say anything, no matter how far out, just to get that attention. Just look at the repeated childish posts listed below. These childish OPs are questioning the age of another poster? Would be funny if not so pathetic.

Criteria - Conservative

[ In Reply To ..]
I noticed your post and wanted to answer you. My father had very severe heart disease, much like what Cheney experienced. We pursued the heart transplant option (I worked for the cardiovascular MDs treating him). The criteria is organ specific and there are numerous steps for the MDs to determine the eligibility of the recipient. Age is not the single, determining factor. There are far too many to list here. We also worked with a world-renowned transplant specialist at one of our hospital that perfected transplant operations, techniques, and criteria (Dr. Starzl). I would be more than happy to answer any question you may have, as I have seen many, many erroneous comments on this board regarding transplants. The department I specifically worked in and with was Cardiovascular Diseases and I know whereof I speak. Unfortunately, many on here do not and are more interested in spreading their hate for a man than any knowledge on the subject.

I think, at this point, these "gotchas" are grasping at tiny little straws to try and justify their hateful comments towards another human being. No one brought up Obama but them. I have never seen anyone on this board wish Obama dead, but I have seen that hate directed towards many, many people that the liberals did not like or anyone the liberals felt did not agree with them. This is just a full-blown example of the constant double standard and hate-filled rhetoric so indigenous to the liberals.

Unfortunately for you, your spin "got" no one. I would not deny Obama a heart transplant either, nor wish harm on him like so many on here spew towards those not in their party. No matter how much I hate Obama's policies, I have never wished him or his family harm, illness, or anything bad to happen to them. Guess being decent to another human being that does not share your beliefs or politics is a concept that the liberals just cannot wrap their minds around or understand since they do not practice that behavior; just take a look at the board. You seem more interested in a "gotcha" than promoting compassion toward anyone.

It is very nice to receive this, as well. My situation was unique in that I was on both sides of this, working for transplant recipients and my family in need, as well. Especially after reading all the nasty comments made following my posts, I am beginning to think that many of these nasty posters have a serious aversion to anything positive at all. When we started screening for any patient in need of transplant services, never once did I ask for a party affiliation, ask whom they voted for, or treat any patient with the hatred and disdain that so many on this board exercise. Each patient was treated as a valuable life that meant a great deal to all peoople involved. It is a very, very exhausting situation to be involved in. For the record, we also had to perform the same screening for inmates incarcerated for horrific crimes. I would really like to see how these hate spewers would have fared in those circumstances. Thanks again!

we pay for that we don't want to. Besides, I'm pretty sure Cheney's heart is not in the list of things my tax dollars or going for. And if they do so what. I don't care. If VP Biden was in need of a heart transplant I'm wouldn't care either. The guy was a VP for petes sake. You can't grant favors for the people in your party and ignore the others.

And no, I don't particularly care for him, but I don't dislike him either. I respect anyone who holds the position of president and vice president. I may not agree with all their decisions, but the door swings both ways. What Cheney and Bush and anyone else does I don't care.

The hate on this board towards Cheney is so overwhelmingly disturbing. You may not have agreed with his policies and what he did but he deserves the same respect you demand of your VP.

But needless to say the hate towards him on this board is so overwhelmingly disturbing. People even wishing him suffering and then saying he's is going to suffer karma. I found that quite funny that these posters don't even realize what they are writing.

But I wouldn't worry your pretty little heads about it too much. I hear survival rate for this age with a heart transplant is not very good, so I'm sure you'll all be partying like its 1999 when you hear that news. Hope all that hate works out for you all.

It used to be that people over 55 were not put transplant lists. That has now changed and they look at each case individually. It depends on the overall health of the person. Also, in case you might have forgotten, Dick Cheney was vice president of the United States. That comes with certain priveleges whether you agree with it or not. I find it so amusing that so many of you are fuming over this man getting a heart transplant. Better get over it because you can't do anything about it now. Ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!

What happened to this board???? Just got back from a long weekend and I am appalled at the brutality here. The only thing the least bit humourous was the post about the libs standing between Maher and a heart transplant to shoot anyone that got in the way...LOL. Hard to imagine what daily life would be like with these posters that are brimming over with such hatred towards Cheney, but then, Dems are the group that embraces late-term abortions and infanticide should a baby actually survive such brutality. Obama can vouch for that since he voted for it.

Do you know something? - mthead

[ In Reply To ..]
And this is not personal against you, but you're right that this board is brutal. From the left I see well-deserved hatred aimed at the likes of Rush and Cheney and from the right I see really intense hatred toward and personal attacks on liberal or even moderate posters. So even though I have tried to post neutral things to get people to see both sides, and even though I have tried to see both sides, I see that there is nothing here for me but a nasty, out-of-control hen party. Nothing educational or otherwise. So I'm done here. I can't stomach it.

And the hates can flame away at me and follow me around other boards and dislike my nonpolitical posts, as I have noticed has been done to other posters, and I COULD NOT CARE LESS. And go ahead and fire back with "good riddance" or whatever childish remarks you people can come up with. And no, I don't care whether I'm missed or not, so you don't have to post about thin skins or pouting liberals or whatever tripe you guys trot out. Y'all just have a ball here. Hate just isn't my thing.

Transplant payment - Conservative

[ In Reply To ..]
Because of the costs of transplant (and some insurances will not cover these operations), there is funds or tranplant pools set up, sometimes by the hospital and sometimes by the state. It can vary from state-to-state; so, I cannot tell you with certainty how each and every transplant case is paid for. In my state, regardless of your age, at the time you receive a transplant of any kind, you are immediately placed on Medicare. You also are required to get your meds through particular pharmacies that specialize in these drugs, as they are extremely expensive. The hospital transplant team has all of this in place before someone is discharged home from the hospital, as they cannot miss any of the anti-rejection drugs. An occasional dose missed is not life-threatening, but if someone runs out of the drugs required it can kill the recipient.

I don't care for Mr. Cheney, but I don't understand the desire on the part of so many on this board to see him disenfranchised. He has insurance; there are programs in place for those who undergo transplant surgery. Why should he not be allowed to avail himself of the same benefits to which we are all entitled? [ In Reply To ..]
In the event that you get old or sick and have limited resources SS will pay you a monthly stipend. The way it works now, EVERYONE regardless of resources collects about $1000-2000 a month, pocket change for many elderly people I know. On the other hand, I also know people in my town who have worked hard all their lives, some at minimum wage jobs, some professionals that have had their jobs phased out and resources exhausted, and they are living on about $1200 a month which becomes $900 a month after Medicare, Medicare supplement and Rx coverage are paid.

I would love to have a civil conversation about this issue but I don't know if it is possible on this board.

Trump-- This Says It All--I'm Not Getting PaidAug 08, 2015
He remarks on his time at the debate "I'm not getting paid for this." I wonder if he were to be awarded the PRIVILEGE of the presidency that he would consider the duties important enough to warrant his time and attention, due diligence and civility? His comments on Megyn Kelly's efforts are disgusting. http://www.cnn.com/2015/08/08/politics/donald-trump-cnn-megyn-kelly-comment/ ...

To cut down on theft, workers who box and ship it are required to pass through security checkpoints after their shifts, waiting in lines that can take almost 30 minutes to get through.  On Oct. 8 the Supreme Court will hear arguments about whether that time counts as work."   Gee, aren't these Amazon workers lucky that they do not work for MTSOs  who constantly run out of work and leave thei ...
