Amazon workers want to be paid

Posted: Oct 3, 2014

for waiting in line.

"Amazon warehouses are full of stuff people like. To cut down on theft, workers who box and ship it are required to pass through security checkpoints after their shifts, waiting in lines that can take almost 30 minutes to get through.  On Oct. 8 the Supreme Court will hear arguments about whether that time counts as work."

Gee, aren't these Amazon workers lucky that they do not work for MTSOs  who constantly run out of work and leave their MTs "hanging" on ... waiting ...and waiting for work?

not what I am thinking... - anon

Aren't they lucky that enough of them stuck together to take this to court and fight for what they believe in. Thats why we get walked all over cause they know we will not stick together and say not anymore. It's much too late for us US transcriptionists anyway and thats sad.

They should be paid for waiting--- - and so should MTs

I don't wait--and I won't. I do check back, and I try to be available when work is in abundance and they need extra help, but if I have something better to do and they are slow...I go.

If the Amazon workers win their case, it might - set a precedent for other jobs, too.

I believe it's too late for MT, as it's almost dead, but hopefully other workers with similar complaints will benefit.

Amazon is notorious for - sm

controversy, unethical business practices, poor working conditions and mistreatment of employees. Do you think they shouldn't be on the clock while waiting to be frisked by an employer who treats them like common criminals just because MTs aren't paid for NJA time? I think wait time should be paid for both, so as to raise the bar on pay, not lower it.

Undocumented Immigrants Paid $11.2 Billion In Taxes While GE Paid NothingJul 04, 2011
This past month, there was much outrage over the fact that General Electric, despite making $14.2 billion in profits, paid zero U.S. taxes in 2010. General Electric actually received tax credits of $3.2 billion from American taxpayers. At the same time that General Electric was not paying taxes, many undocumented immigrants, who are typically accused of taking advantage of the system while not contributing to it by many on the right, paid $11.2 billion in taxes. Froma Harrop: Public Workers Must Join New RealityMar 10, 2011
This was a very good article in Tuesday's paper. Too bad the showdown with public employee unions has come to this. One can be pro-union and still feel a growing resentment at these workers. They aren't to blame. They got what they could, though they overplayed their hand by resisting honest efforts to reform government and schools. Public employees are fighting to keep their old-fashioned defined-benefit plans. Such plans promise to pay a set amount to each qualified retiree. If t ...
