jobs

Posted: Mar 4, 2011

Oh, nice going repubs!!  So, when are the jobs going start coming, huh, huh, huh? Oh wait, never mind.

When did the repubs take control?  Oh yeah, about 3 months ago.  I see.

WASHINGTON -- Employers in February hired at the fastest pace in almost a year and the unemployment rate fell to 8.9 percent -- a nearly two-year low

The economy added 192,000 jobs last month, with factories, professional and business services, education and health care among those expanding employment. Retailers, however, trimmed jobs. State and local government, wrestling with budget shortfalls, slashed 30,000 jobs, the most since November.

The government's report Friday bolstered hopes that employers will shift into a more aggressively hiring mode and allow the economic recovery to get on firmer footing.

The unemployment rate has been falling for three months, down from 9.8 percent in November.

but they haven't done anything yet and - see message

If they had done anything, there hasn't been time for it to go into effect. I'm not a fan of either party, but no applause needed for the Republicans for this one.

Funny how you try to hand Obama the blame for Bush's loss - but no credit for his gain

[ In Reply To ..]
All the Republicans have done has been to attack the poor people and the middle class since gaining control of the House.

Funny because I thought - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
the biggest attack on poor people was making them dependent on the government without actually helping them better their lives.....and I believe democrats are all about that. As I've stated before...NEITHER party has done the middle class any favors.

I personally don't think that - sm

either party can take responsibility for the falling unemployment rate. I knew that if things were left alone that it would eventually get better. Unfortunately we had Bush who spent money like crazy and Obama who spends even more money like crazy. If we could stop the ridiculous spending, I believe these jobless claims would fall faster. Just my opinion though.

On what planet is 30 days 3 months? - Sorry. Lame duck does not count.

112th Congress convened on Jan 5 for its 1st session. Jan 6 they read the Constitution. Jan 8, the Tuscon shooting occurred and votes in the House and Senate were suspended for one week, Jan 9 through Jan 13. Jan 14 and 15, the republicans went on retreat in Baltimore. Not sure what was accomplished, by Chris Lee did manage to get his photo posted on CraigsList during his Marriot stay. The following Monday, they were off for MLK Day. Feb 21 through Feb they were off for Presidents day. They dont work weekends. By my calculation, that means they have worked a grand total of 30 days including today.

So what laws did they pass? Extension of Small Business and Small Business Investment Acts. in effect since the 1950s. They named a courthouse after John H. Roll, recently assassinated in Tuscon. Extended expiring provisions under the Patriot Act. Put a Band-Aid on the budget to prevent a government shutdown, thus preserving their own paychecks.

How about proposals on the table not yet enacted and doomed to fail once they reach the Senate? No Taxpayer Funding for Aborton Act, Protect Life Acts and Repeal of Health Care Law Act, all of which are partisan ideology-driven measures. The budget.

That's it in a nutshell. So which of these monumental accomplishments do you attribute to reversing those jobs numbers? Huh, huh, huh? Keep in mind exactly which sectors experienced the the jobs growth. Health care comes to mind.

Maybe businesses hiring again after they - were reassured by extension

[ In Reply To ..]
of the Bush tax cuts that the Republicans were not going to let this President and the Democrats tax them the rest of the way to death.

You have Obama to thank for that. - Lame does not count.

[ In Reply To ..]
If he hadn't rolled it never would have flown.
so he was against but now is taking credit for it? - WI MI
[ In Reply To ..]
Give me a break. Obama campaigned against extending the BUSH tax cuts and only caved when he saw he was not going to get his way. Even the dems were mad at him for caving. Now that businesses feel a little bit secure to start hiring again he wants to take the credit? And I suppose if the unemployment number would have worsened he would have done an "I told you so" dance? He can't have it both ways.
oh yes he can have it both ways - sm

He's the chosen one, remember? "We are the ones we have been waiting for." AKA narcissist.

This one is one my favorites:
"...then I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal..."
Not quite. GOP threatened to block - all other business unless sm
[ In Reply To ..]
these tax cuts were extended. Speaks volumes about their priorities and phoney concern for jobs and the economy, which they have yet to address. They have been too busy trying to push through ideology-based legislation that serves no interests beyond partisan Brownie points.

Only 30 days?Wow-they did even better than I thought!/nm - LOL

Don't let the biggest monthly jobs gain in five years fool you. Dark clouds on the horizon are getting harder to ignore.  Economists at Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley have certainly noticed. Smoke-free JobsJul 31, 2013
