how are things improving
Posted: Apr 19, 2012
A poster below said, "Typical talkback. Let's talk about how things are improving." I thought I would take the liberty in moving it to a new post.
For me personally, I can't see the improvment. I'm paying more for everything and it's getting harder and harder to make ends meet. When I see the news about the GSA and the blatent arrogance, it just infuriates me. Can anyone site the improvement?

It has been announced that there are about 1,000 new, good paying jobs opening in our area. When I look around, I see "sold" signs going up everywhere. There was a news story last night about the increase in sales of commercial property. I see lots of help wanted ads in our local paper. I feel stable in my job. Hubby feels stable in his job. We just bought some recreational property just for fun!
My retirement accounts have increased due to the increase in the stock market.
The only down sides: Because the federal funding is being tightened, less funding is going to the State. The state is making some very bad decisions (Republican controlled) and is holding back funding to the local cities, schools, and governments. The property taxes need to be increase on the local level and it is hitting the seniors and those on fixed incomes very hard. The rural schools and schools without much of a tax base are really going to suffer, but the Republican rich guys are keeping their own pockets lined.
Care to share the city or state - Hubby has been jobless for a year now

Economy here in the Pacific Northwest has been pretty bad unless you work for the state or county.
Care to share, we are seriously thinking of moving.

Things have definitely gotten worse - Not sleeping at night for starters - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I have friend and family on the west coast, east coast, FL, AZ, VT, and northwest. They all tell me the same thing as here. Things have not gotten better. It's tough to sleep at night when you are worried you are going to lose your job, if your house is going to be foreclosed (in my case 2 family members have had foreclosures), their taxes have gone up, can't afford a lot of the thing they could when republicans were in office. Morale of the people of the country has gone down. Food, gas, clothes, etc (all the stuff we need in our daily lives) have gone up. Paychecks have not. They are printing money with nothing to back it up. The CEOs, wall street, politicians and upper 1%ers are continuing to get rich. We were promised hope, but once the election was over he clearly showed there is none. Jobs continuing to go overseas. Now, I have to say I DO NOT blame Obama for all of this (some not all). Enlightening what Steve Jobs told Obama when he asked why the product could not be made here and Jobs told him. "Those jobs are not coming back". I do blame Obama for not taxing (Tariff?) on the companies that ship jobs overseas. You would think as a low income person I would do better under democrats because after all they "claim" they are for the little people, but their actions show they are not. I and my family and friends (also not rich) have always done better under republicans. But all in all it's worse. It's very worrying to watch what is happening in Greece. Heard that some guy committed suicide in front of people as he was tired of eating out of the dumpsters. Families are leaving their kids in the streets with no means to take care of them. It's horrible what is happening and every American should be very concerned because we are heading in the same direction.
The problem . . . - Rickie
[ In Reply To ..]
The real problem in America is three things:
- Cost of gasoline/diesel
- Republicans who want to stash away huge profits and incentives only to themselves
- Democrats who want to Robin Hood the rich and give it to the poor.
What working people want is to make a decent wage and be able to accommodate our OWN needs. The only way that happens is for major change in both houses of Congress - out with all Republicans and Democrats, especially if they have been warming a seat for longer than 4 years.

Thank you for being so honest about your circumstances. I am very sorry to hear of you and your family's hardships and will keep you in my prayers. Every trip to the grocery store or gas station just adds more anxiety to an already difficult situation. Hang in there, many of us care!
Do you understand how a law is made? - Starts in Congress - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
As we are not a dictatorship, the laws are passed through Congress, (House and Senate) Ask your boys, Boehner, McConnell, and Cantor why things are the way they are. Then take a look at your local governments of good old boy, Jeb, and Jan Brewer to see what else is wrong where you live. We have a wonderful Democratic mayor, a great governor. Now if we could just get rid of the obstructionist pubs and TPrs, the skies would be blue again.
Do you understand - OBAMA had complete control
[ In Reply To ..]
for 2 solid years and Dems had complete control last 2 years of Bush. Try asking Pelosi, Reid and Obama why things are so bad. They screw up EVERYTHING THEY TOUCH. Pelosi/Reid refuse to even allow votes to the floor if they don't like them. House has passed 30+ bills in the last 3 years dealing with taxes, economy, health, budgets and Pelosi shelved them or Reid refused to allow votes on the Senate. Sounds like the one needing a lesson on how a law is passed is the prior poster.
BTW - Obama's own half-heated attempt at 2 budgets in over 1000+ days was voted down by EVERY SINGLE DEMOCRAT. Nice attempt with the talking points and rewriting history, but you are wrontg, wrong, wrong. Yeah Jan Brewer.

No need to Cap it for flaming value.
filibuster definition: A filibuster is a type of parliamentary procedure. Specifically, it is the right of an individual to extend debate, allowing a lone member to delay or entirely prevent a vote on a given proposal. It is commonly referred to as talking out a bill,[1] and characterized as a form of obstruction in a legislature or other decision-making body.

Many critics of the Obama administration often claim that the President has failed to accomplish anything even when he had a super filibuster proof majority in the Senate. [ In Reply To ..]
You will NEVER hear a lib talk about the hundreds of ideas, bills, ammendments that have been tabled by the 3 stooges without review, vote or debate. Repubs have presented and passed 4 budgets (Reid refuses to bring them to the floor for vote in the Senate). The Repubs have voted on 30+ bills that Pelosi during her reign of terror, refused to advance and the Reid refused to consider for a vote. They are so buried under their talking points, they "can't handle the truth".

Maybe you should ask your boys why they are signing/making laws without congresses approval. Why are they going to war without congresses approval. Why are they signing directives without congresses approval.
And if you don't think we are a dictatorship you might want to ask your boys why they are proceeding as though they are. But that's okay for you since it's your boys in there.

I saw car sales pick up at my husband's dealership to only go down again. I also see gas prices getting higher, groceries getting higher, etc. Every time I turn around one of our bills has gone up in price. The little improvement our economy has had...I think...will disappear in another double dip. If that doesn't happen, I'll gladly eat crow because I don't want a double dip, but I just don't think things are stable enough to prevent one.
I'd be curious to see who Obama would blame for a double dip if one would occur. Europe, the Middle East, the rich, Bush?

My bad...I forgot...Obama is never at fault - Trigger Happy
[ In Reply To ..]
The reason my utilities went up, FYI, is because of EPA regulations by this administration. The reason my husband has a hard time selling vehicles is because the economy sucks for many people right now that they can't afford a new car. They won't even look at a truck because of gas prices. As for gas prices...I do recall everyone being up Bush's butt every time gas went up. Why is it Obama has nothing to do with it when Bush was fully to blame? There are things we could do here in our country to make us less dependent on foreign oil and yet our president has refused to let that happen. Instead..he gives money to Brazil for them to drill for oil...but we can't do that here. No pipline that would create much needed jobs...no sir!! Just another tid bit...the reason my husband also has a hard time selling vehicles is because the small town his dealership resides in has pretty much shut down all the factories in that town...which in turn has caused a lot of people to move away and not have the money to buy vehicles. Also, GM isn't giving his dealership many cars. They are mostly giving them new trucks...which aren't selling because of gas prices.
Still amazed at how so many of you give this president a free pass for everything.
