but mine don't have the power to tell me what medications I have to take or what procedures I can or cannot have under penalty of law. They can suggest what they feel would be in my best interest based on their area of expertise, but that's it. You must live in a concentration camp. LOL.

Ryan's personhood amendment, which would make abortion under any circumstances murder, which Romney has stated he supports, would make women carry pregnancies to term based on the religious beliefs of others. De-funding planned parenthood eliminates access for millions of women to birth control, mammograms, cancer screenings. Have you not noticed the numerous measures taken in numerous republican controlled states over the last several years making abortion inaccessible?

It's simple. I don't want guys who think women have some magic spermicide against rape or think pregnancy from a rape is god's will deciding what a woman should do. That is best left to that woman, her doctor, her family, and her faith (if applicable). It's simply not a government issue.

Just as a sideline, why would republicans want to control this issue when they constantly run on the idea of less govt...not that they've ever actually reduced the size of govt.

If you really believe that RvW is going to be overturned, - you're hopeless.

Romney stated in an interview with Brian Williams if he appoints a supreme court justice it would be "his preference" that they would overturn Roe v Wade. The likelihood that the next president will be appointing a supreme court justice is very high, in fact, they may do several appointments.

Now, now. I read your copy of one of Romney's statements on a - subject. Problem is, the thread was about

You answered the two Romney quotes on a subject that JTBB had already posted by introducing a third statement, claiming yours was his position, res ipsa loquitor. Only it doesn't--not when there are THREE of them speaking for themselves and saying something different. BTW, 2 radically conflicting positions stated once are plenty for this discussion, but it's worth noting that he actually rotates them as the situation requires.

There are reasons I quote moderate publications like The Atlantic and New York Times, instead of twisted left-wing blogs (besides that I don't like them any better than twisted right-wing slop).

1. They're moderate for a middle ground to meet on, plus I'm pretty moderate on a lot of topics.

2. They're worth reading for information and insight. Our national movers and shakers and those who work with them in all fields read these things. Senators, CEOs, bankers, generals, judges, etc., etc., etc. They're not perfect in analysis or fact, and many knowledgeable people will find parts they have good reason to disagree with, but they have to be able to stand up to the generally shrewd scrutiny of their readers or they'll fold.

...refers to the majority of the members of Congress who are against abortion in cases of rape or incest. These men are also making laws that affect women's reproductive choices. So many of these guys, as they've proven with their own statements, are pig ignorant about biology. Sure, men can have a say on this issue, but I'm not willing to lie down and let them have a "say" when it comes to the choices I and other women make about our bodies. It comes down to who should make the choices about our bodies? Women themselves or politicians? I'll give you a hint: It's not politicians.

Because I haven't met one single person who thinks abortion is a great thing. It is a necessary evil, however, and one that will continue whether it's banned or not, so let's just keep it legal and safe. There's something very wrong with the notion that a fertilized egg has more rights than the woman carrying it.
