Things That Bring Americans Together

Posted: May 8, 2011

I've been thinking about how Americans of good will come together and forget all their arguments, at important times and over certain topics. We don't tolerate child abuse, for example. Most of us get nauseated when we hear skin head rhetoric, LOL, and we want clean water. There are probably lots more, but I just happen to be thinking about those today. It's a good feeling when we (most of us) come together for good things.

How about this.... - see message

I think we all want good health coverage that covers our needs and is not expensive and if we need treatment or medication we can count on it to be covered. I think we all want jobs and I think we all want decent housing. We all want a decent future for our children, a good education, etc.

I think we can all come together on a lot of issues. I think its the title of the party that is driving people to argue. I know I've been in a few heated arguments here, but it all boils down that I think we all want the same things. Healthcare, education, abolishment of child abuse, etc I don't feel is party related, but what I do think is a lot of people in government (on both sides) have convinced people that the other party does not want to give it or is not for it which is all fabricated to divide people against each other.

Good message! - sm

I can't disagree with a word you said. I wish I had said it.

Sorry, but I must disagree - You seem to blame "government"

[ In Reply To ..]
I see the corporate, rich, greedy, Wall Street entities are trying to divide the people--mostly into rich versus poor, using whatever means they deem necessary to bring about their goal. The means can be the safety net being removed for the low and middle class, Seniors, anti-immigration, tax cuts for wealthy, etc. etc. etc.

It is totally evident by the actions of the Republican party, the salaries of the corporate CEOs, and the continued cutting of programs that help the average American getting an education, health care, or a roof over their heads.

I don't blame "government". We elect them, you know. I blame the almighty dollar that funds campaigns and the lack of ethics that seems to be running so rampant.

Good point, but I read it as blaming politics, not "government" per se - Connecting The Dots

[ In Reply To ..]
I think it may be a matter of today's culture and environment, a combination of politicians that have been bought and paid for, resulting in government that tends to vote for the guy that got 'em there, money. I certainly agree with you that there is a lack of ethics, and I would add that there is also a lack of moral values. Are all of them bad? Obviously not, or why are we electing them? Wall Street isn't all bad either, but a few bad apples there have enough money, power, and influence to ruin things for the rest of us. I'd like to keep the good of all of the above, and throw out the rotten apples. How do we do that?!

what the politicians stand for or against and where they get most of their contributions.

Just today, I saw a good FB quote from a guy who made a career out of the service commenting on OBL's demise (nothing nasty, either). Would you believe someone blamed the troubles in this country on the service men and women!! Reading his comments told me that he is totally ignorant of the laws, regulations, how Congress works, etc. Yet, he VOTES!! I'm guessing he's in his early 20s.

People need to learn how our country works so they can cast educated votes, not just vote for 1 party or another. They need to learn what the consequences would be if a law is, or is not, passed. Voting is not a right, it's a privilege and if people want to vote, they should get involved and research each candidate....but I guess it's too much trouble for a lot of people in this country.

Off my soapbox for now. LOL
We definitely have people voting - sm

who truly have no idea how things work. They just jump on any bandwagon that sounds good to them.

No, I didn't blame government - see message

[ In Reply To ..]
See, your message is a good example of how political parties are dividing people with "it's the other sides fault, they are to blame, hate them, hate them, hate them, divide, divide, divide, our party is all innocent, and those nasty evil republicans (or anyone else not in our club)" The corporate greed is on both political parties side. No matter how much you want to believe it. It's happening right now and democrats are in, so sorry, they don't get a free ride from blame. It doesn't matter whether dem or rep is in. There are greedy people on both sides. I've seen the good and bad on both sides.

Until people can knock down the party title and work together as all in the same group of wanting the same things this country will never come together. Lets get rid of the parties. Lets merit individuals on the job they do. If people/politicians do a good job they should be elected and no democrat or republican label should be associated.

So, yes I guess I do blame government because they are the ones telling you to hate the other side. But then again I blame the people because if they are so stupid they can't see beyond the party line and hate the other side and divide, divide, divide then nothing will ever get settled.

May I quote you? "I do think is a lot of people in government (on both sides) have convinced people that the other party does not want to give it or is not for it which is all fabricated to divide people against each other."

You are blaming "government" but then you say you aren't. ???? Perhaps your blame of government is a knee-jerk reaction and you do not understand what you are saying as it is so automatic. I AM blaming the Republicans, Corporations, and greed and stand behind it. I did not say that I hold Democrats blameless, but I believe the Democrats are on the correct sides, which I will certainly be elaborating more on as time avails.
Well guess you didn't read the message you replied to - see message

Since you like to quote me, I'll take a quote I wrote right from what you replied to....

"So, yes I guess I do blame government because they are the ones telling you to hate the other side.".

Perhaps your copy and paste jobs are knee-jerk reactions.

Since you don't include the democrats in those to blame along with republicans and others then yes, you are holding them blameless.

The democrats are not on the right side because corporate greed is even worse with them in it.

I live in Alabama. There are the most amazing things happening. After the awful tornadoes 12 days ago, people here are coming together. The State is devastated but we are pulling together.

I've been thinking about all of you in Alabama - sm

I love Alabama. My dad was born there, in Winfield, although I don't think the tornadoes came close to Winfield. I've been thinking about all of you.

A Third Of Americans Now Say They Are Nov 04, 2012
From Pew Research, 09/12/2012: The percentage of Americans who say they are in the lower-middle or lower class has risen from a quarter of the adult population to about a third in the past four years, according to a national survey of 2,508 adults by the Pew Research Center. Not only has the lower class grown, but its demographic profile also has shifted. People younger than 30 are disproportionately swelling the ranks of the self-defined lower classes. The shares of Hispanics and whites ...
