Wow! Do you suppose Boehner and Rubio heard the Pope's words?

Posted: Sep 24, 2015

CNN - Pope Francis challenged America Thursday to embrace millions of undocumented immigrants and join a global campaign against climate change and poverty, wading undaunted into the nation's volatile politics in a historic address to Congress.

Francis also called for a fairer world economy, the abolition of the death penalty, the protection of ethnic and religious minorities, the outlawing of the global "blood" trade in arms and the protection of the family.

John Boehner's willingness to fund rather than oppose - Barack Obama's lawlessness is a
[ In Reply To ..]
chief reason for his forced resignation from his position as speaker of the House. It is no small issue that, during Boehner’s tenure, Judicial Watch is widely acknowledged to have been performing the oversight that is the job of Congress. We’ve heard from many members of the House who are embarrassed that its committees and oversight have become a joke under Speaker Boehner. Judicial Watch has had more success investigating the IRS, Benghazi, and Clinton email scandals than any House committee under Boehner’s direction.

And the House simply could not stand for John Boehner to allow the funding of the very things he told the American people that House leadership opposed. Corruption in government grew under Speaker Boehner’s watch.

The House, Republicans and Democrats alike, should take the pending leadership change as an opportunity to restore the House of Representatives to its preeminent role as defined under the U.S. Constitution. A reform and restoration agenda for the House should be the priority of any new speaker and leadership team. It is time to commit to combatting government corruption; time to focus on effective and serious oversight and accountability of an out-of-control federal government; time to end the DC transparency crisis; and time to restore constitutional governance and the rule of law. The elected despotism that the Founding Fathers warned about must end.
It is called governing, NOT - funding lawlessness
[ In Reply To ..]
All those things you say you oppose? Guess what, I want those things. I am one of those who voted in President Obama. We are THE MAJORITY!

Just because Republicans gerrymandered enough districts to get a majority in Congress does NOT mean they can become little Mussolinis, honestly!

The same tone deafness evidenced by the lovely Ms. Davis, so hurt that we told her Jesus didn't love her (which her and her ilk tells gay people all the time, but somehow that's different) is what I see with the ultra right wing of your party.

There is no despotism, it is elected govt and most of us want it. Boehner was at best obstructing, at worst allowing the tea party jokes to get away with murder.

History will not be kind re these shenanigans. The right wing tea party who controlled the Republicans have slowed the economic progress of this country and came up with not one iota to help the middle class, no jobs, no infrastructure funding, nada.

Guess what, a lot of Democrats under W's administration did NOT want war, did NOT want tax cuts for the wealthy, and I can imagine what would have happened if they shut down the govt over these things.

If you can't get enough votes (even with your majority), you don't have a hissy fit and shut down the govt. That is childishness and obstruction, not courage.
Congress sends Obama a budget and if he vetoes it - and "shuts down" the govt
[ In Reply To ..]

Sad to say that the Dems have the Republicans over a barrel. The Senate will just block anything that has PP defunding in it. They've done it twice now through their ignorance. They can't get the thick heads to see the truth about PP. Their names will be known and it's up to the voters to boot them out if they're up for re-election in 2016. What they are doing is condoning murder.

"Congress faces a Sept. 30 deadline to pass a spending bill before government funding runs out.

The biggest hurdle? Demands from House conservatives that even a short-term continuing resolution (CR) funding the government block money for Planned Parenthood.

“The three of us agree that we want a short-term CR,” Reid told reporters after the 90-minute huddle in the Oval Office. “We want to make sure the riders are off that, we want to make sure the government will be running.”

The top Democrats sought to present a united front in the contentious budget battle, even as Reid and Pelosi extended an olive branch to their Republican counterparts, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) and Speaker John Boehner (Ohio), to sit down and hammer out a comprehensive budget agreement.

Reid said that he is prepared “to do something meaningful with spending” on a broader funding deal after the short-term measure is passed. But he would not reveal how much additional spending he wants.

Pelosi stressed that she wants spending talks to proceed in a “timely fashion” so Congress can tackle other pressing issues, such as highway funding and a reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank.

“It’s important for us … to have not a very long CR, but one that enables us to have the time for the appropriators to write an omnibus bill,” she said. “The sooner we can agree on a number under which we can write the appropriations bill, the sooner we can get this job done and address some of the other issues.”

McConnell has warned against a standoff over the issue, arguing it would hurt the GOP brand just as the 2013 shutdown over ObamaCare damaged the party.

“We’re going to fund the government,” McConnell told reporters Tuesday. “We’re not going to shut the government down and we will do that hopefully into late fall.”
