Pope Francis says government workers have the right to refuse

Posted: Sep 28, 2015

have a "human right" to refuse to discharge a duty, such as issuing marriage licenses to homosexuals, if they feel it violates their conscience. Speaking to reporters as he returned home from a 10-day trip to the United States and Cuba, Francis also repeated his condemnation of priests who had sexually abused children, saying the victims had been "crushed by evil". Although the Argentine-born pontiff delved into some of the United States' thorniest political debates during his visit, he never specifically referred to a controversy over same-sex marriages, which the Church firmly opposes. On the flight back to Rome, he was asked if he supported individuals, including government officials, who refuse to abide by some laws, such as issuing marriage licenses to gays. "Conscientious objection must enter into every juridical structure because it is a right," Francis said. Earlier this month a city official in the U.S. state of Kentucky, Kim Davis, went to jail because she refused to issue a marriage license to a gay couple following a Supreme Court decision to make homosexual marriage legal. Davis's case has taken on national significance in the 2016 presidential campaign, with one Republican contender, Mike Huckabee, holding rallies in favor of Davis, a Apostolic Christian, who has since joined the Republican party. reuters.com ;

It would not be a problem if Kim had stepped back and let her deputy clerks issue the licenses. However, Kim did exercise her right to go to jail for her personal ideological beliefs that she tried to ram down the throats of the citizens who pay her salary. Good for her.

I am thankful for his realizations and influence where useful. Progress is being made from all corners; and I am thankful that all do not feel as the Pope does on the issues of gay marriage and abortion. The U.S. is not exclusively Catholic and all Catholics do not follow his thoughts.

People keep trying to put people in particular boxes, but they keep popping out and visiting other boxes for some. Decisions on politics, for thinking individuals, is made by prioritizing issues and going with the person who most often represents the most important issues.

This is not a "human right" but a "religious right." - Not sure why he used this terminology.

"Conscientious objection must enter into every juridical structure because it is a right," Francis said.

The requirements of her job have changed since her election. She was elected to uphold the laws and do a job that she now finds herself incapable of doing. She should resign or they should recall her election and elect someone who can fulfill the laws.

I prefer to focus on his emphasis on tolerance and unity. - NM

The election of the pope and getting rid of - Joseph Ratzinger was the result of

secret meetings that cardinals and bishops, organized by Carlo Maria Martini, held for years in St. Gallen, Switzerland. This, according to Jürgen Mettepenningen et Karim Schelkens, authors of a newly published biography of the Belgian Cardinal Godfried Danneels, who calls the group of cardinals and bishops a “Mafia club”.
Danneels according to the authors, worked for years to prepare for the election of Pope Francis, which took place in 2013. Danneels, moreover, in a video recorded during the presentation of the book in Brussels, admits that he was part of a secret club of cardinals who opposed Joseph Ratzinger. Laughing, he calls it “a Mafia club that bore the name of St. Gallen”.
The group wanted a drastic reform of the Church, much more modern and current, with Jorge Bergoglio, Pope Francis, as its head. They got what they wanted. Besides Danneels and Martini, the group according to the book were part of the Dutch bishop Adriaan Van Luyn, the German cardinal Walter Kasper and Karl Lehman, the Italian Cardinal Achille Silvestrini and British Basil Hume, among others.

his is the first confirmation of rumors that had been going around for years about Benedict being thwarted by a liberal conspiracy, one that eventually forced him out. These men — Danneels, Van Luyn, Kasper, Lehman, and Hume, at least — all preside over dying churches. And they killed the Benedict papacy.

This is from an advance copy of Cardinal Danneels’ official biography,

This might explain a few things. . .

The pope has sway over more than a billion people. Knowing how a traditionally concervative institution came to elect this man as their leader is of some interest to even non-Catholics like me.

I would surely like to know who invited Ratzinger to "retire" in order for this pope to replace him.

I Am Glad Pope Francis Is Such A WidelySep 26, 2015
As the leader of the Roman Catholic religion he obviously has a great following and his thoughts mean "the world" to many, many people. I am glad for his ability to speak about humanity and the subjects that so desperately need to be illustrated and explained to so many in the United States. The "so many" in the United States seem to be predominantly conservatives, but not exclusively. There is plenty of corporate greed and corruption in both parties, and he spoke to the evil in that also. ...

Lunch With The PopeFeb 14, 2017
President Trump invited the Pope for lunch on his yacht, the Pope accepted and during lunch, a puff of wind blew the Pontiff's hat off, into the water. It floated off about 50 feet, then the wind died down and it just floated in place.
