Why I am opposed to health care reform

Posted: Mar 19, 2010

because I think it is MUCH better to spend HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS of dollars raping a foreign country like Iraq

and then REBUILDING THAT COUNTRY

than to spend hundreds of billions of dollars helping the CITIZENS OF THIS NATION better afford basic health care coverage.

Surely you all agree?

Because from the GOP's point of view we CAN afford endless war but we CAN'T afford heath care reform.

Geniuses, ain't they?

;

Some of us oppose both. And Democrats voted - for the war too, remember.

You really don't want to rake up that ground again. Really, you don't.

However, to address your post, I agree that the war in Iraq was a costly mistake. But it's not like we would have had those $billions to spend on healthcare reform. The war increased our national debt...it did not draw down our treasury.

So it's quite possible to be opposed to both of these ideas, and for very different reasons since they are very different things. Being against one does not by any means imply that I should be for the other.

What dont I want to rake up? - smokethis

I never defended the Democrats' support of the ridiculous wars - don't change the subject.

The point clearly was: are we willing to spend HUNDREDS OF billions tearing down and rebuilding IRAQ while the US. crumbles?

Infrastructure, health care, energy policy, environment, etc., this country's needs has been put on the back burner for too long.

I am not one who is fooled by the opposions' rhetoric to health care reform, and Americans as a whole are really stoopid if they fall for the propaganda and fear tactics being used in trying to torpedo health care reform.

Changescan be made to the laws as needed: It is the oppositions hope to delay reform until the makeup of Congress changes again and then the status quo (no reform) will continue.

Ridiculous! I am a pub, I am FOR reform, but any - sensible person can see this BILL is disaster.nm

It's not just the War in Iraq. (sm) - Nikki

The Iraq war isn't the only thing that's costing money.  The FREE, UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE that Bush included for the citizens of Iraq is also costing us money.

Why is healthcare for IRAQIS more important than healthcare for AMERICANS??!

I notice no one has responded to this. She - a legitimate question~

[ In Reply To ..]
Why is okay to provide to the Iraqis what we should be getting?? I do not begrudge the Iraqis, but I think we should be taking care of American's first!!

Thank you. My thoughts exactly! (nm) - Nikki

Is Health Care Reform Constitutional?Mar 22, 2010
According to what I have been reading today, NO. The government cannot force us to buy health insurance: "But the individual mandate extends the commerce clause's power beyond economic activity, to economic inactivity. That is unprecedented. While Congress has used its taxing power to fund Social Security and Medicare, never before has it used its commerce power to mandate that an individual person engage in an economic transaction with a private company. Honest Question About Health Care ReformFeb 19, 2010
My husband owns a small business and in the last 6-9 months, we have been hounded more than ever by insurance company representatives and brokers looking for our business.  Are they looking for sheer numbers if this reform goes through, or is there something else I'm missing?    In any case, it certainly doesn't seem that the insurance companies are worried about health care reform hurting them.  Maybe they're just trying to lock us in so then they can raise ...

Why Are People So Opposed To The New Healthcare Reform?Oct 03, 2010
I keep hearing commercials from people running for office, saying that they will put a stop to "Obama-care" or being so proud that they voted against it. I just don't get it. Everything I have heard, like being covered even if you have a preexisting condition, not being dropped when you get sick, covering kids until the age of 26, no lifetime caps, etc. all sounds great and consumer friendly. Why are candidates appealing to the public to vote for them and they will fight it? Why do ...

Health Insurance Is A Poor Measure Of Health Care.Sep 14, 2011
On Tuesday, the Census Bureau released its annual report on health insurance coverage in the United States. News media widely misconstrued the data and presented the problems facing the nation's health care system through a distorted lens. Many major news outlets made a basic error when reporting on the Census Bureau study. The Los Angeles Times wrote that "the number of Americans with no health insurance rose in 2010 to 49.9 million from 49 million the year before." But the figure c ...
