The Top Ten Benefits Youâll Get When Health Care Reform Passes

Posted: Mar 18, 2010

The Top Ten Benefits You’ll Get When Health Care Reform Passes :

As soon as health care passes, the American people will see immediate benefits. The legislation will:

Prohibit pre-existing condition exclusions for children in all new plans;

Provide immediate access to insurance for uninsured Americans who are uninsured because of a pre-existing condition through a temporary high-risk pool;

Prohibit dropping people from coverage when they get sick in all individual plans;

Lower seniors prescription drug prices by beginning to close the donut hole;

Offer tax credits to small businesses to purchase coverage;

Eliminate lifetime limits and restrictive annual limits on benefits in all plans;

Require plans to cover an enrollee’s dependent children until age 26;

Require new plans to cover preventive services and immunizations without cost-sharing;

Ensure consumers have access to an effective internal and external appeals process to appeal new insurance plan decisions;

Require premium rebates to enrollees from insurers with high administrative expenditures and require public disclosure of the percent of premiums applied to overhead costs.

By enacting these provisions right away, and others over time, we will be able to lower costs for everyone and give all Americans and small businesses more control over their health care choices.

And I don't see a link to this propaganda piece....or should I assume it came from OFA?

That was my question... - ~~~

Who gets to pay for all those wonderful things? It all looks and sounds great, but it isn't free.

Not much is, but some things are more important - than money. Eventually,

[ In Reply To ..]
it will benefit all of us in one way or another. No one said it is free.

I for one would have liked more from this bill but it is a decent start. Thanks for posting this.

Brilliant -- so you don't mind paying for your 10 billion dollars a month useless war .. . - sigh

[ In Reply To ..]
but you have a problem contributing to a plan that will bring reasonable healthcare to everyone? Where were you when Bush was pushing his propaganda about WMD's and forcing this country into an unneccessary war?

That is something that bothers me every single - time I hear this "it will raise

[ In Reply To ..]
our taxes" or "how are we going to pay for it" or "it is too expensive" argument. Where were you when we were pushed into this war????? I would rather be spending more to help our own people than contributing to this war, or filling the pockets of those whose pockets that are already filled to the brim and then some like the companies that also profitted greatly from this war, or the insurance companies some seem to be so determined to defend.
I second that - I have
[ In Reply To ..]
spent thousands of dollars over the years on insurance premiums. Being responsible doesn't come cheap. I have been very fortunate in that I have not had to use my insurance much. I could have covered my actual costs hundreds of times over with what I've paid in premiums, but insurance is just that.....insurance. It is in case you need it. That being said, I would much rather know my money was going to level out costs for all rather than buy fifteen multi million dollar homes and ten yachts (whatever) for insurance execs.
I third that to some degree... - Birdsong

I already have spent thousands over the years for automobile insurance premiums, which I can understand because of other drivers who may not be as responsible as I am on the road. I'm tired of doing the same thing for my health insurance when I work at staying healthy by eating right, exercising, getting my sleep and working at relieving stress and very seldom use my insurance. When it comes to my health insurance, I feel since I work at staying healthy, I should receive some form of refund or "kickback" for doing so. People who work at staying healthy should be rewarded for doing so instead of just constantly paying and paying and paying. Our bodies are not our automobiles. Although both need to be kept in good running condition, accidents are more likely to happen with our vehicles because of someone else's negligence. That is not the case where our health is concerned. We can make a difference if we choose to. The majority of doctor/hospital visits are due to problems dealing with issues that could have been prevented in the first place with changes in dietary and lifestyle habits--obesity, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, diabetes, some forms of cancer. I want a refund from my insurance company. They owe me.
That sure would be nice. - :)

But, as long as you have a private industry that only makes money from healthy folks, and by denying as many claims as possible, well, chances are mighty slim.
You dont get it. Obama preaches this will SAVE money, that - anyone who is not rich will not pay more.

There are lawyers analying this bill as we speak who admittedly cannot decipher half of it. So, how does Congress VOTE on something they dont understand, and that none of us could possibly understand? They should start over! I am for reform, but not this.. ever. I am disgusted in my Govt.. totally disgusted too that they might "deem the bill passed" without a vote if desperate. -shameful.

I've never said how I felt about the war one way or the other, so don't assume you know my opinion about it.

And by the way, a whole slew of Dems voted to go to war, too, like Hillary. Aren't you just a tad miffed at her?

People are posting links but you don't care.

We have questions and post our opinions and you said provide links. This is exactly what happened a few months ago when we were asked the libs for links to prove their claims and were getting ridiculed about wanting info to back up their claims.

I don't know if you are the person who posted the OP, so first I have to say I am in no way directing this at you or the OP....

With that said.....

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!!! Of course that is what the democrats are putting out because they want this to pass. When it is not working in their interest they now come out with all these wonderful and miraculous things that this health care bill will do. Unfortunately the list is a bunch of lies. If it was a republican thing and they were trying to sell some crappy health care plan they would make up things too and put it on their website. But it doesn't mean I'd believe it. So we are supposed to trust them now? Because they put all these wonderful and miraculous good deeds the health care bill will solve. You know...you (not your personally, but anyone who believes this) may be gullible enough to believe that but anyone in America who can think for themselves knows it is utter ---. You can fill in the blank. I don't know a decent word to use that won't ban me. I read the list. I was curious to know where the list came from. I thought it was from some economist or someone who knows something about what this bill will mean and do to our country. No, instead I hear its from a democrat website. Well I'm sorry but I am sick of it all. I am sick of the lies. Yes, lies. I'm sorry people don't want to hear that, but please people...wake up! They are trying to feed you a line of baloney and you are buying it. Everyone with any sense can figure it out for themselves.

And I'm sorry but this bill is going to increase our taxes. That is a plain and simple fact. Where in the world do you think they are going to get the money to pay for it? MAN!!! WAKE UP!!! (again, not anyone on this board personally - I am just frustrated that people don't see it for what it is - a bad, bad, bad bill that will devastate our country). They are going to have to raise our taxes to pay for this. I'm sorry, I think everyone should have decent health coverage that they can afford. My premium is so outrageously high I cannot afford it. Yes, I'd like my premium lowered. If I could buy the same health insurance coverage that Indiana or Mississippi or some other states have I would have decent affordable health coverage. Right now I've got a deductible so high I can't even go through that so in essence I don't have health coverage. But to take more money from me to give to people who don't have anything because it's only fair, or it's the American thing to do (make you work harder and more hours to give to those who don't work), I'm sorry but that is just not right. If that's the case then I should quit working. And don't you believe this 200 or 250K thing they keep telling you. Bill Clinton said he would not raise taxes on the middle income and we were hit with the largest tax hike in history.

So I am sorry....I am not angry at anyone on this board. Everyone believes what they do. I am upset at the system. I am upset at the lies. I am upset that my life is going to get worse because of this. I'm not going to name call the politicians. That does no good at all, but my God people....I wish this would just be over with.

One thing for sure...I'm anxious for the fall of this year and 2012.

BTW, the Library of Congress is a nonpartisan body.
