Honest question about health care reform

Posted: Feb 19, 2010

My husband owns a small business and in the last 6-9 months, we have been hounded more than ever by insurance company representatives and brokers looking for our business.  Are they looking for sheer numbers if this reform goes through, or is there something else I'm missing?

In any case, it certainly doesn't seem that the insurance companies are worried about health care reform hurting them.  Maybe they're just trying to lock us in so then they can raise our rates and we'll have no choice but to pay them.  Can anyone enlighten me?

wood any of we MTs know the answer to that ?. This is board to dispense opinionations, not know it alls.

First of all, was that bit of nastiness really necessary? - Sick Of It~

[ In Reply To ..]
It is connected to HCR and so the poster, knowing that there are many here who follow it, might be able to offer up some educated or maybe just informed answers. Chill out.

Secondly, "opinionation" is not a word. As an MT, you should know that.

You're right about that. - Old part-timer

[ In Reply To ..]
I respect the intelligence of my fellow MTs (with a few exceptions) and was simply wondering if anyone could offer any insight. I would think that health care reform would have the insurance companies running scared, but it seems to be the opposite.
People should be able to ask a question without - Sick Of It~

anyone giving them a hard time. This was a legitimate question. "Anna" was out of line here. She should have either just offered a calm, reasonable response, or ignored the question entirely if she did not have any input.
I still disagree - Anna

Asking MTs to spiculate on why an industry that is completely seperate from ours is doing something is NOT a political subject. You might as well ask people to spiculate on why Ford Motors is now using brake pedal 342 instead of 343. We are MTs and this is a politics board. your question wold be more be more appropriate on a business gossip board or something.
To which I reply - Old part-timer
[ In Reply To ..]
You have the right to your opinion which in this case means you have no opinion or insight as to my question. It's rather presumptuous for you assume no one else could possibly have anything to offer.

There are probably those out there who could "spiculate" on why Ford is using brake pedal 342.

If I had posted this question anywhere else, it would have been moved to the politics board by the moderator.

It pertains to the new health care bill presently under consideration, which I think makes it POLITICAL. And, gee, I don't know, I thought maybe transcriptionists, being in the HEALTH CARE field, might have some insight.

So what country do you live in? And, for that matter, which transcription company employs you? I'd like to know so I never apply to a company that has no pride in its work.

Going out on a limb - NJ

[ In Reply To ..]
This is pure conjecture from someone with little confidence in the integrity of big insurance companies. Please take that into consideration.

One possibility would be that they fear the public option which is not yet dead. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe the public option in its current form would be offered to those who already have insurance. It would, however, be very competitive and therefore those currently without insurance would very probably end up covered by the public option.

A push by insurance companies right now might be to lock in customers before the public option hits the market.

It also might be much simpler than that. While some insurance company profits rose dramatically last year, those profits would be lowered by reform. Maybe they are scrambling for a bigger chunk of the market in anticipation of lower profits to come.

Either way, shop carefully. Let them fight over you! Good luck.

Health Insurance Is A Poor Measure Of Health Care.Sep 14, 2011
