What they are squealing about is the fact that Obamacare is going to do what it was designed to do....make medical insurance more competitive.  Unions fear employers will drop their plans in favor of cheaper alternatives offered on the exchanges.  They are also miffed because the government is not going to offset mandated coverage for union workers' dependents under age 26, lower deductibles and copays and removal of lifetime coverage limits.  They (gasp) actually expect the unions to bankroll those expenses.  One would think the cons would LOVE that concept, since those dirty union commies aren't being allowed to get preferential subsidies, thus curbing union access to being "on the dole."

Bob Laszewski, a health care industry consultant, said the real fear among unions is that "a lot of these labor contracts are very expensive and now employers are going to have an alternative to very expensive labor health benefits."

"If the workers can get benefits that are as good through Obamacare in the exchanges, then why do you need the union?"  Laszewski said.  "In my mind, what the unions are fearing is that workers for the first time can get very good health benefits for a subsidized cost someplace other than the employer."

Now, some of the unions may be having a hard time accepting their new reality, but just how likely is it that the unions are going to suddenly abandon the democratic party and go flocking over to the other side to join a party who has called them every name in the book decade after decade....commies, thugs, criminals, etc?  Not happening.

Unions want out - (funny) They wanted in before! - Abby (sm)

It makes an untruth out of what the president said _ that if you like your insurance, you could keep it," said Joe Hansen, president of the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union. "That is not going to be true for millions of workers now." They just figured this out?? LOL

They are evidently Slo-Lerners. - nm

Not only can you keep your current health plan, - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
but your premiums are likely to go down as insurance companies are FORCED to compete for business.

You are actually believing this steaming pile that - Obama has handed you? Really?

[ In Reply To ..]
OMG
Will you believe it when it happens, or will you still - say it ain't so?
[ In Reply To ..]
Not possible to say it won't happen. I know that would be the knee jerk response. But it is and will happen. Will you insist on paying higher rates even though your insurance goes down just so you can blame Obama's steaming pile?

Yes, premiums going down for us. sm - Union family

[ In Reply To ..]
We just received our open enrollment booklet (retiree) for the next year from my husband's former employer and our monthly premium went down by 75%! Same coverage, same insurance carrier.
If others would just realize that this is true, - sm

instead of constantly and vigorously HATING Obama, they would see that what I'm talking about is true. Of course, it doesn't matter what anyone says because the republicans will do the complete OPPOSITE of what Obama wants, even if it means voting against their very own bills they introduced.
If I were a Congressperson, I would - we must get him - out. We have to. (sm)

Many of them have only seen his tyranny lately. Some of us saw it at the beginning.
He's gonna go out the old fashioned way. - Reaching end of 2-term limits

You'll just have to wait your turn in 2016, like long-suffering democrats had to under 8 unbearable years of Ws regime. After that, get ready for the first woman prez and a White House curtain call for the Clintons.
So you're in favor of skyrocketing, unaffordable - sm

healthcare premiums?

Yep, you're being a nice, loyal republican!!!
FINALLY they have to compete for business, - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
after all these years of pretty much having a monopoly, one where their executives have been raking in the money to the tune of hundreds of millions and maybe even more. The money which they have earned

I'm thrilled that your premiums went down by 75%!! This is the kind of thing that capitalism forces the insurance companies to do.

You should THANK Obamacare. Finally, - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
there will be a lot of healthy (no pun) capitalism going on when the insurance companies will be forced to compete with Obamacare for lower premiums.

what I don't get - NK

When I was an employee, I always had insurance, but then I got my own accounts. Because COBRA was so expensive and I was never sick, I opted to gamble with no insurance. That plan worked for years, but then I became diabetic. Of course, when I called to make an appointment anywhere, the first words out of every receptionist's mouth were "what kind of insurance do you have," and no one cared that I was very sick because I had no insurance. I had to go to urgent care, and then one of the physicians I typed for got me an appointment with an endo. In the meantime, I realized I had to get insurance. In order to make it affordable, my deductible was sky high and I had a preexisting condition, so it was totally worthless except that I had an insurance card to present. Finally I was old enough to get that dastardly government-subsidized entitlement called Medicare, and I no longer have to worry about paying almost $600 a month for nothing. What I don't get is why anyone would object to being able to have affordable health insurance. Well, other than the obvious reason, of course.

I couldn't agree with you more! Great post. - nm

Obamacare Meltdown Has Arrived. Tennessee Is Ground Zero For Obamacare'sOct 07, 2016
last month the state insurance commissioner, Julie Mix McPeak, approved premium increases of up to 62% in a bid to save the exchange set up under the Affordable Care Act. “I would characterize the exchange market in Tennessee as very near collapse,” she said. Then last week BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee announced it would leave three of the state’s largest exchange markets—Nashville, Memphis and Knoxville. “We have experienced losses approaching $500 million over the course of ...

Obamacare Is Failing From Behind... His Goals For ObamacareJul 20, 2016
1) Have it collapse so that single payer can be implemented amidst the ensuing chaos. 2) Have that happen on somebody else’s watch. Obamacare was designed to fail so the Democrats could “reform” it with complete government provided socialized medicine. That is the entire purpose for it. Obamacare is designed to collapse so they can backfill the vacuum with government run socialized medicine. Eventually, everyone will be on some form of Medicare. I believe that was one of Bernie’ ...

UnionsFeb 18, 2011
For decades, union negotiators have steered dollars toward such things as political campaigns and generous pay and benefit packages, rather than responsibly funding retiree pension obligations.  Now, with pension obligations climbing and fund assets dwindling, union executives realize that they can’t satisfy the years of promises that they irresponsibly made.  Their solution?  Dump union benefit obligations onto taxpayers.  That way, union leaders could continue to fig ...
