He is considering closing tax loopholes by EO as...sm - VTMT

Congress has shown no interest in reforming the tax code. Most Americans are in favor of closing these loopholes that allow people/corporations to avoid paying their fair share.

So since when does the President have the authority (sm) - LM

[ In Reply To ..]
to do this on his own "because Congress didn't do it." This is Obamalaw 101. Give me a break. Most people don't want him negotiating (his brand of negotiations - the sissy pants way) with Iran either, but that doesn't stop him.

ObamaOutlaw 101 is more like it. - Truthhurts

i'm hoping the new House and Senate will be able to stop him but from watching those two bodies, I see everything on the Dem side is still partisan...except for the one vote last week, but still wasn't good enough.

Got to get Harry Reid and a few others out of there before things can get better.

Since the day he took office, I think. - Thats why we have a President.

President Obama is having his people investigate - the use of Executive order

[ In Reply To ..]
Bernie Sanders has suggested the use of EO to close loopholes.

"Now I don't want to leave you with the impression that there is some imminent announcement, there is not, at least that I know of," Earnest continued. "But the president has asked his team to examine the array of executive authorities that are available to him to try to make progress on his goals. So I am not in a position to talk in any detail at this point, but the president is very interested in this avenue generally," Earnest finished.

Sanders sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Jack Lew Friday identifying a number of executive actions he believes the IRS could take, without any input from Congress, that would close loopholes currently used by corporations. In the past, IRS lawyers have been hesitant to use executive actions to raise significant amounts of revenue, but that same calculation has change in other federal agencies since Obama became president.

...an error in the way a law, rule, or contract is written that makes it possible for some people to legally avoid obeying it.

someone needs to do something about these loop holes.... - nana7

and I don't care who does it. Congress used Microsoft as an example of how the tax codes are broken years ago, but failed to act on it. Hence, Microsoft's revenue was 77.8 BILLION and only paid 5.2 billion in taxes because of foreign tax havens and lower tax rates to operate overseas.

So these huge companies get tax credits and breaks for operating overseas and taking jobs from the American people just so they don't pay taxes. Google corporations that pay little taxes and see who comes up, Microsoft, Bristol-Meyers, Rite Aid, Stanley Morgan, General Motors, etc.

I don't care how it gets done as long as it gets done. Corporate welfare needs to stop and if Congress doesn't have the balls and an EO can do it then I am for it.

Yeah, the Chicago way, the backdoor way. - Sam

Why Raising Taxes In Poor Economy NEVER Good IdeaAug 01, 2010
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100801/ap_on_bi_ge/us_wealthy_cut_back   Taxes should NOT be raised on anyone right now... less spending, fewer jobs for the rest of us. President Obama Says No To Raising Medicare EligibilityFeb 11, 2013
This is a National Journal (a moderate Washington insider publication) article on the "sausage-making" side of this issue, the maneuvering--not the socioeconomics of it. The people who read this journal also read many others, and it's not the last word on anything, but I thought the "what's going on here?" is interesting as part of an ongoing series of maneuvers. It's worth noting that an eligility age increase could be put right back on the table just as quickly. Also, the "chai ...

Obama’s remarks came several days after ISIS attacks in Paris that killed over 120 people and injured scores of others. Friday night’s attacks on France are believed to be the deadliest terrorist attacks in the country’s history ...

President Obama Claimed To Cut Taxes ForSep 07, 2012
President Obama: "Now, I’ve cut taxes for those who need it – middle-class families and small businesses." TRUE – Obama has indeed cut taxes on 95 percent of Americans, and, among many other initiatives, passed the HIRE Act which cut taxes on small businesses who hire and retain workers. For the life of me, I don't understand why some are SO unhappy with this. By all means, don't vote Dem for social reasons if that's who you are. ...

Raising The Debt Limit. A Little Bit Of HistoryApr 14, 2011
After World War II ended, the debt limit was reduced to $275 billion. Because the Korean War was mostly financed by higher taxes rather than by increased debt, the limit remained at $275 billion until 1954. After 1954, the debt limit was reduced twice and increased seven times, until March 1962 when it again reached $300 billion, its level at the end of World War II. Since March 1962, Congress has enacted 74 separate measures that have altered the limit on federal debt. Time Line from 1958-2011 ...

Six Costs Of Not Raising The Debt CeilingJul 26, 2011
What started as hot air has now become a thunder cloud. Should Congress fail to reach a compromise to raise the debt ceiling, a multitude of economic sectors could take a hit—if not come to a screeching halt. We review the effects as forecasted by economists and ask “Should you worry?” The answer, in short: Yes, probably so. 1. Global economy: Asian and European stocks “shuddered,” on Monday, as William Alden of the Huffington Post put it, after Congress f ...

Raising Minimum Wage To $15 An Hour? Dec 08, 2016
Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton wanted the minimum wage raised and that was part of their platform.  Does anyone think raising the minimum wage will help the economy?  My soon to be ex-company, Nuance, fired the California MTs because of minimum wage higher than average in California. Will other companies avoid high minimum wage requirements and avoid doing business in those states?  Do you think if the minimum wage is higher, costs to the consumers will be higher.  If ...

Raising The Medicare Eligibility Age Would Cost Patients About Twice As Much,Dec 06, 2012
"When economists and policymakers worry about the long-term fiscal crisis, what they’re mostly worried about is Medicare. That’s why a persistent idea during this fiscal cliff season is raising the Medicare eligibility age from 65 to 67. It’s an idea that appears superficially to have many virtues. Bringing the Medicare retirement age into line with the Social Security retirement age seems logical. The change is simple to describe to journalists and the public."  & ...

Starting a new thread because the old one is too hard to follow any more. ObamaCare. Working directly with his patients and cutting out the insurance and government bureaucrats, lowers costs for the patients and increases the quality of care they receive. This shows how free market solutions can cut healthcare costs. This is the way out of the healthcare trap, and ironically it's being driven by doctors themselves who want to be doctors rather than insurance administrators. So-called "concierge medicine" is available in most areas and the number of doctors ...

Don't know if any of you have ever watched the "Morning Meeting" with Dylan Rattigan on MSNBC (9:00 a.m. Eastern time), but I would highly suggest watching it.  He is very angry about what's going on in the economy (from banks "too big to fail" to the "public option"), but instead of bashing Obama, he refers to the culprit as "the government," since we all know when this really started and how many administrations are really involved.  Rattigan used to be on CNBC but is now o ...
