Who knew that Walmart is one of the biggest gun retailers in the world?  I just heard this on the news this morning.

Conversely, an tiny emergent market is just as alarming. - 3D printer plastic guns, previously illegal

in the expired Assault Weapons Ban, discussed by Rachel Maddow last night, who effectively shed light on new technologies that will require a swift and sober, bud-nipping approach. Ah, yes. The "freedom" to print out your very own desktop design, bypass licensing requirements and background checks, and hold the ultimate product in the palm of your hand. Can't think of a more salient argument to present in favor of enhanced ammo restrictions.

I wonder how the gun owners, manufacturers, the NRA and its clones view this development? I personally think this needs to be legislated into oblivion, but pronto.

an ad for Gander Mountain that there is a sale on the gun that the killer used (forgot the name of it) along with several hundred rounds of ammunition thrown in for free. That takes the cake.

regular people don't have 3D printers - nm

cell phones, computers, and fax machines were developed for the personal retail market - even when they were not common for people to have. 3D printers are developed for manufacturing applications, not personal retail.
No, the day is coming soon when hobbyists of many - types will find one under the Christmas tree.

or is that kind of creepy?

Wait...can this work in MY favor? Can I print out, say, a glass of wine?

Okay, I change my mind about it being creepy.

Purveyors of weapons and violent "entertainment" may soon face - a new spate of grass roots boycotts.

The power of the purse strings often exposes and at times helps bring establishments, who initially respond to these situations with limp efforts designed to escape more responsible actions, to reverse their positions. I heard one such instance this morning from an entertainment spokesperson who was talking about enhanced violence "disclaimers" that appear for a fleeting 15 seconds or so at the beginning of a film which I suppose may now be part of the video game experience. Big whoop for all the good that will do. Simultaneously, he dredged up the existing "proliferation" argument in much the same way pro-gunners do when trying to convince the public of the utter futility of more meaningful actions, as though what happened in the past is written in stone as a harbinger of what we must expect in the future.

Parental controls are elemental and extremely important in this regard, but cannot be used as an excuse for inaction on other fronts. Consumer responses can also make contributions toward a march toward a more civilized, less violent society.

Probably just trying to sell what stock - they have before any supposed

banning of these types of weapons passes into law,,,which I highly doubt.

anyway, why was the ban on sale of assault weapons lifted in the first place? I do not see any need for that to have happened.

I learned this in "Bowling for Columbine" - nm

perfect example of where gun control might start - let's not sell them at family stores!

and requiring guns shows to perform background checks in all states? There are laws prohibiting or limiting shipping of alcohol in most states. Let's limit the shipping of guns. While we are at it, we could tax weapons and ammunition just like alcohol.

If your state has a sales tax, I would imagine the sale - backwards typist

of weapons and ammunition are already taxed.

In PA, you can't mail a rifle out of state to someone who is not licensed. It must go through a federal firearms licensee, but can mail it to someone in state without an FFL.

A handgun cannot be mailed to anyone in or out of state. It must go through someone with a federal firearms license.

I'm sure these laws may have changed over time, but this is the latest that I know about.
How about an excise tax then? For example...sm - Dewey

According to 2012Tax-Rates.org, WA State has an excise tax for cigarettes ($3.03 per 20 cigs), wine ($26.70/gallon--one of the highest in country), liquor ($26.70/gallon--one of the highest in country), but I was unable to find such a tax on guns or ammunition. I am assuming they charge only the sales tax and license fees. Not a gun owner myself, so not sure.

Then again, I live near WA hunting country and we would probably have a rebellion on our hands if such a tax was even hinted at.

BTW, Backwards, interesting info about mailing guns. Will have to look up mailing of ammo. I rented a cell phone from Japan for a trip there and the battery was considered hazardous material in the US and was mailed separately from the phone. I wonder if ammo would be classified as hazardous, too?

these are great measures - sm

We can't buy pharmaceuticals without prescriptions. We can't grab Sudafed off the shelf. We have to remove our shoes to get on a plane. There is plenty of room for more checks and balances when it comes to firearms.

Bread So Cheap At WalmartAug 19, 2010
Please someone telling me I am just being negative. I have started worrying about low prices at Walmart, because of hearing about their trade practices. Today I noticed the usual $2.78 loaf of multigrain bread that is my favorite, is reduced permanently to $2.50. I am wondering who is "taking the hit" for that 28-cent reduction. The bakery companies? Other local grocery stores usually have that bread for $3.50 or so, but often **on sale** at $2.50. Is Walmart's reduction an effort to s ...
