Trump doesn't understand the 1st

It will come as no surprise that Donald tRump doesn't grasp how the First Amendment works. He is, after all, a Republican candidate for President.

He has filed a big lawsuit against Univision, followed by the kind of bonehead stunt that probably makes his legal team twitchy - he released a statement about it.

He asserts - and this is the funny part, considering the office he unrealistically dreams of holding - that "Univision and NBC are attempting to suppress Trump’s First Amendment rights by putting pressure on his business ventures."

People seem to have a hard time with this concept, so here it is again, for the folks at the back of the room. Freedom of Speech does not mean freedom from consequences. Also, the First Amendment guarantees only that the government cannot impede your rights to speech. It doesn't say anything at all about annoyed business partners.

Obviously not, because if you had you would have seen that I wrote "This suit might have merit on a contractual basis".

And it may. But in his jabbering about the suit, Trump pointed to First Amendment issues, not to contractual issues. That's the claim I was discussing. Which again should have been quite clear from my original post.

Considering that he threatened to sue a guy for $25 million over a petition to get Macy's to drop Trump merchandise, this is just a delightful twist!

I wonder if tRump will resurrect his threat as a result? Because the image of rich-guy-suing-regular-guy would play so well during an election season.

As you refer to, I am one of the ones in the back of the room, and I think Donald Trump is right on. Maybe he is what our country needs and what he said about Mexico and the border, others have been saying for years, and somehow I cannot forget the lives that have been lost trying to secure it.
