This Martin Bashir Rant Should Make Sarah Palin Shut Her Mouth For Good

While right-wingers whine and throw temper tantrums over remarks made by Martin Bashir on Friday, the rest of America is breathing a sigh of relief and having a laugh that someone may have finally shut Sarah Palin’s mouth for good.
Martin Bashir took a dump on Sarah Palin’s stupidity over slavery.

During his program on MSNBC, Martin Bashir blasted Sarah Palin for comparing the national debt to slavery. Last Saturday, Palin told an audience in Iowa that future generations of Americans would be enslaved to the debt.

“Our free stuff today is being paid for by taking money from our children, and borrowing from China,” Palin said. “When that note comes due — and this isn’t racist, so try it. Try it anyway. This isn’t racist. But it’s going to be like slavery when that note is due.”
Clearly incensed by the comparison, Martin Bashir launched an epic rant in which he declared Palin’s mind “deceased” and attacked her stupidity.
“Given her well-established reputation as a world class idiot, it’s hardly surprising that she should choose to mention slavery in a way that is abominable to anyone who knows anything about its barbaric history.”
Martin Bashir then continued by giving Palin a history lesson about what slavery was truly like. He began with the diary of Thomas Thistlewood, a plantation overseer in the 1750s who described the brutality and inhumanity he unleashed upon slaves who were caught doing something they weren’t allowed to do.
In 1756, he records that a slave named Darby ‘catched eating kanes had him well flogged and pickled, then made Hector, another slave, s-h-i-t in his mouth,’

This became known as ‘Darby’s Dose,’ a punishment invented by Thistlewood that spoke only of inhumanity. And he mentions a similar incident in 1756, his time in relation to a man he refers to as Punch. ‘Flogged punch well, and then washed and rubbed salt pickle, lime juice and bird pepper, made Negro Joe piss in his eyes and mouth.’
Martin Bashir suggested Palin should experience how slaves were treated.

This is the kind of horrible treatment that slaves were subject to. They were whipped, had salt thrown in their wounds, and were forced to allow another slave to defecate in their mouth. This is what Sarah Palin thinks is comparable to the debt. But Bashir wasn’t through with Palin. He suggested she learn about the true horrors of slavery by experiencing it for herself.
When Mrs. Palin invokes slavery, she doesn’t just prove her rank ignorance. She confirms if anyone truly qualified for a dose of discipline from Thomas Thistlewood, she would be the outstanding candidate.
Right-wingers are throwing a fit over Martin Bashir’s remarks. Since Martin Bashir signed off on Friday, right-wingers have flown into a rage. They are accusing the MSNBC host of being a misogynist and are demanding that he be suspended.

The thing is, Martin Bashir is nowhere near guilty of misogyny. Misogyny is the general mistrust and hatred of women, something Tea Party Republicans know all about considering their efforts to control women’s reproductive decisions. Nowhere in his remarks did he insult women. Just Sarah Palin. He was merely telling the truth about her lack of brains. And she deserved every word. Compared to slavery, the national debt is frivolous. No one is being whipped, beaten, defecated on, sold, bred like cattle, or chained up over the debt. The fact is, Palin isn’t an intelligent individual. She preys upon the fear and gullibility of others, all while being ignorant about what she’s talking about, just to sell more books. Even military veterans know that she’s an idiot.

Martin Bashir is only saying about Sarah Palin what most Americans have been saying since she showed up on the scene in 2008. And with any luck, Sarah Palin will choose to keep her mouth closed out of concern that she may one day be taught the lesson Martin Bashir suggested she learn. Or at least make her think really extra hard before opening it again.

the recent trend of comparing our country to Nazi Germany, slavery, etc. Does no one understand the extent of atrocities that were done? Does it mean NOTHING? Can we compare just anything we dislike to Nazis and slavery, because we don't actually know the difference between our country and the murder and torture of 6 million people? Of keeping people in chains and working them to death? Breeding them? Does it mean nothing to those who makes these comparisons, what people have truly suffered through? It is now just political a tool, words slung to draw the most dramatic effect, an insult that digs deep although it holds no water, and an attempt to instill fear in those who don't understand the difference between our free country and those that lived out their entire lives in chains. It's maddening.

COMMENTARY | Just when one thought that public discourse could not get any lower, someone on MSNBC, in this case Martin Bashir, spews forth to prove one wrong. Naturally he was put out by something Sarah Palin said.

Palin compared the national debt to being akin to slavery, a perfectly defensible comparison. Bashir, though, after a rambling discourse about how an 18th century slave overseer dealt with slaves, suggested that the same thing be done to Palin.

Be advised vulgar language follows.

That thing was to have someone defecate in the former governor's mouth.

Pajamas Media has a pretty good takedown of Bashir's depraved suggestion and twitchy notes that the MSNBC ranter himself used the slavery analogy in relation to what social conservatives call traditional marriage.

But there is something more evil at work here. Bashir essentially said that Palin should be violently and physically assaulted for something she said. There is no moral difference between what Bashir suggested should be done and Palin being beaten up, raped, tortured, or even killed.

This writer is not a lawyer nor even plays one on TV. But it seems that Bashir has opened up a can of worms for both himself and the network that he works for. If Bashir is not criminally liable for what would seem to be a suggestion that a violent act be done against Palin, she would be well within her rights to have her lawyers explore whether there are grounds for a civil action. A huge, multimillion dollar settlement would be just compensation for Bashir spewing what he suggested that Palin ingest.

Imagine, for example, if a conservative host had made the same suggestion about President Barack Obama? That host would be taken off the air immediately, but forced to apologize, and would never work in media again. But as of this writing, Bashir is still employed at his network and has not taken back one word of his depraved, hateful suggestion. That is both telling and sad.
that commentary is quite a stretch - nm

I’m quite certain Sarah has a thick enough skin to make a coy response to Martin’s idiocy. I’ll take her lead,

I completely agree, but - your fav bleeding heart

[ In Reply To ..]
He should have left it there, at explaining what slavery means. His point would have been better served and perfectly made without the intimate personal attack. Then the focus would be squarely on her lack of historical knowledge (again) rather than his remarks.

[ In Reply To ..]
that most of us aren't familiar with - I'm not even sure what she was trying to say there. But she's been ragged on by the press so much, it's like second nature now.

That said, I think what Bashir said is utterly repulsive. What could he have been thinking? He has, however, apologized (which is more than most who have insulted conservatives in the past). I do think it's sad, though, that someone of his journalistic stature has decided to sink so low.

I don't think she veered off anywhere - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
This is how she's always been. John McCain brought her to "fame" when he chose her as a running mate for all the wrong reasons. She has never been smart. I would guess that any conservative on this board has a lot more going on than she does above the neck on every plane of intellectuality.

What she was trying to say? It doesn't matter. She knows all she has to do is open her mouth and all her TP fans will be there to drop a dime in her bucket. She is exploiting these poor people by telling them everything they want to hear, whether it contains an ounce of truth or not.

Anyone who says what he did should not be employed - in the field he is in. sm

[ In Reply To ..]
This is why I don't watch MSNBC. For every Bashir they fire another one on MSNBC is only too happy to step up and spread their hate and disgust. Ed Schultz comes to mind.

Luckily Bashir apologized. Whether he was sincere and meant it I don't know as his face was like a stone.

Luckily the cancelled his show.

that would affect an awful lot of broadcasters - nm
