Salaries and benefits

Our country is spending more money than it is taking in....and has for quite some time now.  Because of this...this administration has threatened older folks with no SS check unless the debt ceiling was raised.  Now they are talking about changing benefits for the military.  There has also been talk about taking away from Medicare and Medicaid.  Both parties have talked about taking away from Medicare...even the president's healthcare takes away from Medicare to pay for Obamacare.  Now some are talking entitlement reform...which I gotta say I agree with after seeing the riots in Greece and in England when the their government had to cut back on the "cheese" and the citizens who were dependent on that "cheese" didn't like it too well.  I don't want our country to become that nanny state.

But here is my biggest problem.  I've heard over and over again how the rich are the bad guys.  However, our very politicians that we have elected into office are those rich guys.  So why is it that they receive salaries and such good benefits?

A new list of the 50 wealthiest members of Congress shows that the top three alone are worth in excess of $700 million.  If these folks have so much money, they could survive with a smaller salary and less benefits.  It isn't like they cannot afford healthcare if taxpayers weren't paying for it.  They aren't trying to decide whether to put food on the table or gas in the car.  I don't care whether you are democrat, republican, etc.....we are being ripped off here.

So, who are the 50 poorest? - sm

I am wondering who the poorest 50 in Congress are, and how poor are they? I do not know enough about this. Part of what it means to be a US citizen means that anyone, poor or rich, could be elected president. Quite frankly, I think President Obama is now a rare exception.

My concern is, for example, they want to cut military retirement. Who would serve in the military without the perks of the retirement? You need people with experience. The same holds true for teachers--I don't know of many teachers who can teach for 30 years without becoming babbling idiots. Every government field from road builders to immunologists needs to have education, on-going training, and experience. There needs to be a good pay and benefit structure there to entice the best and brightest. There is a reason that there are so many applicants for government jobs, and that is because of the salary and benefits, and justifiably so, in most cases. Not talking about political appointments here.

None of 'em. You have to be rich to win an election. - and next year we should kick them all out.

Is there a list somewhere where it lists them by personal finances? A list you can actually read? Fishy.

MT SalariesApr 17, 2015
The decrease in MT salaries has nothing to do with any one individual.  It started years ago and continues regardless of the administration.  It has to do with globalization.  Hospitals keep demanding lower and lower rates and the only way to get them is to send the work offshore.  You can blame Republican and Democratic administrations for many things but not that. ...

Pakistani ITs Received $4 Million In Taxpayer Salaries Under WassermanAug 07, 2017
I suspect this was originally posted here last week, but until the TDS dies down from the Soros/Media Matters/David Brock acolytes/employees/trolls here, I'm going to post about this topic (and link some updated info below about an active suit being argued against Wasserman).  RIGHT on our soil we can plainly see a corrupt political operative engaged in nefarious activities (including the transfer of significant sums of taxpayer monies) with foreign nationals that the left-wing moonbat ...

Unemployment Benefits Make People Not Want To Get A JobMar 03, 2010
What do you think about this statement Republicans? I know there are some on this board that have been looking for a job for months. Sen. Jon Kyl of Arizona, the Republican whip, argued that unemployment benefits dissuade people from job-hunt ...

Mothers Should Be Required To Work Outside Home Or Lose BenefitsApr 17, 2012
WASHINGTON -- Women who stay at home to raise their children should be given federal assistance for child care so that they can enter the job market and "have the dignity of work," Mitt Romney said in January, undercutting the sense of extreme umbrage he showed when Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen quipped last week that Ann Romney had not "worked a day in her life." The remark, made to a Manchester, N.H., audience, was unearthed by MSNBC's "Up w/Chris Hayes," and will air during the ...

The Republican National Committee actually lost money ...
