Rush's war on poor people in harm's way

Posted: Aug 28, 2012

Rush on the Hurricane Isaac:

Once we publicize that we have sent 500 bags of money -- well, whatever number of bags, bags filled with money to shore up the levees, what will happen? The poor of New Orleans will storm the levees and steal the bags, thereby putting themselves at risk for the eventual flooding that will happen once they remove the bags of money. And that way the Republicans can get rid of even more Democrats in Louisiana and shore up the state for themselves. How about those two ideas, folks? Am I not thinking or am I thinking?

How repugnant is that?

What a hateful, pot-stirring dunce he is. NM - AlphaBetty

I suppose Rush would rather us all - be obese windbags with multiple addictions.

[ In Reply To ..]
than be poor.

Sorry, I forgot misogynistic. - Who cares about Rush

[ In Reply To ..]
.

I wouldn't mind being an obese windbag if I made all his $$ LOL - backwards typist

[ In Reply To ..]
No matter how you look at it, there will always be stupid comments on both sides.

Look at the Ellen Barkin and Samuel Jackson tweets on the hurricane just yesterday and today. There are a lot of liberals that made nasty comments but, of course, you have to do what any sane person would do....ignore them.

I agree that - there are dumb comments on both sides

[ In Reply To ..]
I absolutely agree with you there.

I just am in awe at the sheer number of dumb comments made by Rush Limbaugh.

I'm no fan of Samuel L. Jackson, either.

What?! Are you saying you're a POOR obese windbag? - J/K

Sorry, sorry, couldn't help myself. Very sorry.

That's just par for the course....sm - JTBB

Keep in mind the pubs had this bouncing idiot center stage at their convention last time. He says stuff like that all the time, but you won't see too many pubs challenging him on it.

This is just a more harsh version of the guy at the pub convention that was making jokes about the hurricane keeping Biden away...meanwhile folks are terrified for their lives and their livlihood. Humanity isn't exactly a strong point for pubs.

And here you see first hand the hateful rhetoric - of the Libs - never ends

[ In Reply To ..]
.

I'll be the first to admit - my intense dislike for Rush Limbaugh

[ In Reply To ..]
It's not hateful, but I have many unflattering things to say about him.

I'm sure you do. I'm one of the few (sm) - LM

Conservatives I know who really like him.

He's probably right. Admit it. - nm

Taken totally out of contest - but, okaaayyy.

Rush makes a point by illustrating with the absurd. Read to the whole transcript of that part of his show and you'll see that he was expounding on Mayor Nagin's response to Katrina with his 500 buses which were not deployed to help people because ostensibly he didn't have 500 bus drivers. Then the republicans got blamed. Rush made a valid point, if you continue reading:

"But using bags of money would be cheaper than giving taxpayer dollars to the local Democrats who have been in charge of the levees, because that money has just ended up in the back pockets of the Democrats and didn't go to levee repair. They used the money to buy votes, or in the case of William Jefferson (Democrat-Louisiana) he just put the money in his freezer."

ummm... "CONTEXT" - not "contest" -- my bad.

[ In Reply To ..]
;)

When put in the entire context - Conservative

[ In Reply To ..]
It negates all the hateful insults posted here. The most benign comment can be made to look inexcusably evil if you take it out of context and put a hateful spin on it.

You mean like....sm - JTBB

[ In Reply To ..]
the five Romney ads that say Obama took the work out of welfare? or "you didn't build that?" or Obama "stole" from medicare?

All of those have been debunked as blatant lies, and yet for Romney taking things out of context and distorting the truth seem to be quite acceptable. Why is that exactly?
He did! - Very true.
[ In Reply To ..]
He took out the work requirement for welfare recipients, told business owners that "You didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen," and confiscated over $700 billion from Medicare to fund his obamacare.

The debunking you're talking about was really just liberal spin.
Maybe you should tell that to Newt. sm - JTBB
[ In Reply To ..]
As he has basically admitted that the welfare thing was a lie and that the theory is based simply on "what they think will happen."

Yeah...lets put it in context...sm - JTBB

[ In Reply To ..]
Like that's gonna be any better...lol.
(see link)

He's slimy like a fox. Hurricane=Bush=Rep disgrace becomes - hurricane=Dems=vicious opportunists. (For

[ In Reply To ..]
those people who lap up his line, of course.) I wonder who are more appalling as citizens: The ones who swallow this stuff whole and think he actually believes what he says, or those who know it's all lies but love it anyway and use his attack points as cynically as he does.

This is NOT a Republican-Democrat or red-blue thing. It's a good and responsible citizens versus bad citizens thing.

BTW and IMO, our failure to help the people of New Orleans and other places in terrible danger of drowning and even dying for lack of basic services is a NATIONAL disgrace. We all own a piece of it.

Well...LOL. Did this The Sullivan Group win the Pulitzer Prize - for its fact checking (like Politifact)? Hint:
[ In Reply To ..]
No. Sorry, but see below from Wickipedia.

"Self-described as "fiscally conservative, socially it-depends", the success of his [Tom Sullivan] show, and his personal friendship with Rush Limbaugh whom he met at KFBK in the early 1980s, resulted in his occasional appearance as a stand-in host on The Rush Limbaugh Show. Sullivan's prior investment group is The Sullivan Group that Limbaugh cites as the official auditor of his claim to be "documented to be almost always right" 99.7% of the time."
Wikipedia????! - anyone can make things up there.

Not a reliable source. IMHO.
Very true, although auditing has shown it to be surprisingly accurate. - Many verifying sites are available also. SM

Fact is, a very significant portion of our population insist on knowing the true facts, then making up their OWN minds about them. Because of these people, all around you if you look, there are always true facts reported somewhere. You just have to look for them.
This is a fact. He is accurate and calls them correctly. - nm

For those already aware who just want the final score:
True: 0
Mostly true: 1
Half true: 2
Mostly false: 4
False: 3
Pants on fire: 5!

This is a really telling profile of his show and, I'm afraid, even more of the people who tune in to lap it up. Not that this is all they are, of course. Time to pull it together and head for the light?
