Reagan, the NRA and Black Panthers

Posted: Jan 1, 2013

Who originally was pushing for gun control laws? Reagan. Why? He was afraid of the Black Panthers. Who backed him? The NRA.

What a wild world we live in.

;

Good article, thanks. Of course, white militant groups and war - protesters greatly dwarfed the BPs.nm

back then. They were a very strong, racist, violent militant group. They cared little for the law and threatened war against Jews, Hispanics, and whites. Riots were normal between blacks and whites and most of it was caused by the BPs agitating situations.

if you could back up your last sentence we would be - in awe of facts

Back in the ‘60s, H. Rap Brown had stated: “Huey Newton is our only living revolutionary in this country today...He has paid his dues. He has paid his dues. How many white folks did you kill today?”

James Foreman also stated: “We must serve notice on our oppressors that we as a people are not going to be frightened by the attempted assassination of our leaders. For my assassination—and I'm the low man on the totem pole—I want 30 police stations blown up, one southern governor, two mayors, and 500 cops, dead. If they assassinate Brother Carmichael, Brother Brown...Brother Seale, this price is tripled. And if Huey is not set free and dies, the sky is the limit!”

The New Black Panther Party are more racist than the old movement in respect to Jewish. One of their members were denied admittance to Canada and they blamed the ADL and JDL. “which is nothing but a bunch of gangsters, dictate what happens in the world today," and "they told Canada not to let us in and Canada followed their rules, because this country is run from Israel.”

"Riots were normal between blacks and whites..."

And one point in time cannot be isolated without considering preceding historical events, including the history of the KKK, but I guess some would consider them "normal" too.

of the BLACK PANTHER PARTY. The last quote was from the NEW Black Panther Party.

I was checking to see if you would ignoring the first 2 quotes and you did. The agitation the BPP provided did provoke race riots.

as much as I'd distrust Black Panther support of Pat Robertson. It's strictly opportunistic, with expectation of destruction of the Jewish state (and most of its Jewish people) followed by seizure of its holy sites by Christians. "Friends" like these make the New Black Panthers look really good. Just saying.

The Panthers were taken about as seriously by regular folks outside their group (as opposed to national and local leaders) as Herman Cain is taken by those outside his tiny fan club. They did not play any significant "leadership" role in the movement, in the grand scheme of things. Now, where ARE those examples?

I'm not going to argue anymore about the "seriously by regular folks outside their group" (as you put it) on both the BPP and NBPP. It's all there on the internet and in videos.

So, you also find the following quotes are not relevant either. Should I take these comments as non-threats and treated lightly as a bunch of baloney?

Should we allow the NBPP to stand at all polling places with batons to insinuate threats of violence if not voting the way they want you to vote?

Do you find the following quotes insignificant, too?

"Our lessons talk about the bloodsuckers of the poor… . It's that old no-good Jew, that old imposter Jew, that old hooked-nose, bagel-eating, lox-eating, Johnny-come-lately, perpetrating-a-fraud, just-crawled-out-of-the-caves-and-hills-of-Europe, so-called damn Jew … and I feel everything I'm saying up here is kosher." — Khalid Abdul Muhammad, one of the party's future leaders, Baltimore, Md., Feb. 19, 1994

"Kill every goddamn Zionist in Israel! Goddamn little babies, goddamn old ladies! Blow up Zionist supermarkets!"
—Malik Zulu Shabazz, the party's national chairman, protesting at B'nai B'rith International headquarters in Washington, D.C., April 20, 2002

"I hate white people. All of them. Every last iota of a cracker, I hate it. We didn't come out here to play today. There's too much serious business going on in the black community to be out here sliding through South Street with white, dirty, cracker whore bitches on our arms, and we call ourselves black men. … What the hell is wrong with you black man? You at a doomsday with a white girl on your damn arm. We keep begging white people for freedom! No wonder we not free! Your enemy cannot make you free, fool! You want freedom? You going to have to kill some crackers! You going to have to kill some of their babies!"
— King Samir Shabazz, head of the party's Philadelphia chapter, in a National Geographic documentary, January 2009

Go to Youtube and put New Black Panther Party in the search box and you will find plenty of videos. There is a 4-part series done by National Geographic on the party (or do you find NG to be insignificant?). Along the side bar, you will find videos from King Shabazz and others...and don't forget how they put a $10K bounty on George Zimmerman's head. That video is also on Youtube.

These are not very old videos, either. One is as recent as April 2012.

Either you want want to believe everything is hunky dory in this country, or just refuse to believe there are such groups out there...including the KKK, Aryan Nation, militia groups, etc. That's your prerogative.

Please. Reminds me of guys on DH's hunting sites trying to - keep PETA alive because they NEED a boogie.
[ In Reply To ..]
Read my post just below about being there too. White supremacists, the NRA, and people opposing environmental protection legislation all need a scary boogieman, imagined will do fine, to swell their ranks with the easily frightened, anxious to know who the enemy is now.

For those who don't remember PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, they're famous (compared to many other, more mainstream groups) for providing their enemies with extreme positions that they are delighted to claim are a real threat. If you ever doubt this, just google who's always talking about them; conservative outdoorspeople opposed to environmentalism LOVE to hate this group. They need it.

And I'm sure white supremacists love the new Black Panthers in the same way--an ideological lifeline to hold onto. They should thank goodness for the internet. However else would they know this dreadful threat existed? :)
You can say that again. - Excellent post. nm

violence, threatening the possibility that it would spread well outside their small ranks. That persuaded the wites to be willing to bargain with the NAACP, church groups, ACLU, and, of course, Democratic Party.

I remember those days well and joined a couple of demonstrations in our small city myself. Ordinary people weren't afraid of them, at least sensible ones--there were way, way too few (a very tiny fraction of 12% of the population) to be able to do wide-spread damage, and by far most of the black violence was in a very few black inner city neighborhoods. They were angry men, and their own who didn't approve of them were the nearest targets.

Actually, so far from being frightened, although I didn't approve of them, I mostly thought their "boogieman" effect on moving the GOP leadership toward negotiations was a case of a small contribution having an outsized effect on the advancement of equality.

This dodge in no way addresses - your bogus claim that

[ In Reply To ..]
"Riots were normal between blacks and whites and MOST OF IT WAS CAUSED BY the BPs agitating situations." Surely you don't expect a couple of quotes taken out of verbal and temporal context can serve as a substitute for factual historical citations of riots SPECIFICALLY ATTRIBUTABLE to BP "agitation." By historical citations, I am not referring to the garden variety revisionist winger dogma you typically post. Looking for proof that emanates from mainstream (yes, BWT, MAINSTREAM) sources, such as American history text books, or real-time newspaper, magazine or TV broadcasts reporting on the alleged incidents.

I too have vivid memories of the civil rights movement. The Panthers were a tiny fringe group that was essentially overshadowed by the larger nonviolent efforts (especially MLK's SCLC and the NAACP), who received an inordinate amount of media coverage because of the challenges they presented for local and national establishment elected political leaders. It's worth mentioning that their appearance on the scene occurred smack dab in the middle of the Cold War. They were perceived by many as Communist sympathizers who had a snowball's chance in Hades of ever exerting any significant influence over the movement, or the political agendas and processes of the day.

The only thing I would add is that the white-on-black violence back then was MUCH MORE problematic than anything the BP leadership could have ever conjured up. If you're looking for the real "agitators," you are barking up the wrong tree.

Yup. :) Backwards would do well to remember most of us - do remember those days just fine. sm

to institute gun regulation when it's presented by a Republican and as a means to disarm angry black men.

But now it is just a bleeding heart liberal issue, so let's fight it tooth and nail.
