Ex-Reagan advisor accuses Fox News of
Posted: May 24, 2015
This Sunday, economist Bruce Bartlett, a former adviser to Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, accused the conservative propaganda machine known as Fox “News” of “brainwashing” Republicans “bubble” of misinformation that is making conservatives more misinformed:
“Many conservatives live in a bubble where they watch only Fox News on television, they listen only to conservative talk radio — Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, many of the same people. When they go onto the Internet, they look at conservative websites like National Review, Newsmax, World Net Daily.”
“And so, they are completely in a universe in which they are hearing the same exact ideas, the same arguments, the same limited amount of data repeated over and over and over again. And that’s brainwashing.”

They'll shoot down the source of the message and shoot the messenger while totally ignoring the honesty and truth in the actual message: That is the very essence of the "life in the conservative bubble" that Bartlett speaks of.
I personally think it's great. It keeps them totally in the dark, living deep in the bubble that Bartlett describes and goes a long way in demonstrably proving what is said so often about them. They constantly complain about lies and lying liars while they're living so deep within the bubble of the right-wing propaganda machine that they are seemingly oblivious to the fact that the right-wing propaganda media machine is the biggest perpetrator of outright fabrication and misinformation on the planet and knows exactly how to punch their "persecution" and "victim" buttons, and that is the "self-brainwashing" that Bartlett is talking about.
Me personally? If I found myself repeating the same lines out of context over and over as if on cue, I believe I'd clue in to the reality of what Bartlett is being totally honest about here.
In my opinion, I say "carry on" and "as you wish"! LOL. I suspect that when their party finally splits in half that more of the candidates will be talking about the Fox News and right-wing propaganda machine and letting the proverbial cat out of the bag in order to stop the insanity and save what is left of their party. Fox News is not an arm of the GOP anymore; the GOP is being run by Fox News. The Fox News rhetoric machine has become the kingmaker, and the dysfunction in Congress is a direct result of the Establishment GOP versus the Tea Party. With so many candidates for 2016 with their diametrically opposed views and only so many spots on the debate stage, how could at least some discussion of this phenomenon not take place?
Remember in 2012 when Newt Gingrich said this: "I think Fox has been for Romney all the way through. In our experience, Callista and I both believe CNN is less biased than Fox this year. We are more likely to get neutral coverage out of CNN than we are of Fox, and we're more likely to get distortion out of Fox....I assume it's because Murdoch at some point said, 'I want Romney,' and so 'fair and balanced' became 'Romney.'"
So with two dozen GOP candidates this year with diametrically opposed views and only 10 of them being allowed in the center ring with the rest of them on the outside looking in, look for more of this candid truth about right-wing media, and get your popcorn ready for the three ring circus.
Looking forward to election night 2016 when - President Walker, Cruz, Bush, whatever

Again has defeat snatched from the artificially created and false-poll-supported victory Fox has predicted from day one.
They still haven't explained how they were so very very wrong on Mitt Romney, so my guess is they have not changed their methodology, nor the polling companies they use who consistently skew polls the way they want them.
Must be very lucrative doing that. Ethical? Not so much, but Fox's hungry viewing public has now become a monster that needs to be fed a lie that they are winning, and that costs when evidence goes the other way.
The costs to the media and polling groups that perpetrate the falsities as dictated by Fox are integrity, honesty, duty to the public, etc., but what's that when you have a guaranteed financial killing in feeding that monster?
I've said it before and I'll say it again. All we need in this country is a law or some sort of commission that actually makes it illegal to lie if you call yourself news. Every other country has this, not us.
Fox "News" would go bonkers, but on the plus side we would not have such a huge amount of dangerously uninformed voters then. If they want to vote based on conservative principles, fine, but if they are being sold that the Republicans have the financial or social solutions we need, that's where it gets tricky for the liars, based on actual history and facts.
I do hope they drag Rove into the nerd room again, that was so great!

other ex-Reagan nutjob Paul Craig Roberts. Just because someone worked "for Reagan” doesn’t mean anything really. Elizabeth Dole worked for Reagan, too, yet she’s the one who arbitrarily decided to bypass the legislature and forced the seat belt laws on all the states. Federal government running roughshod over state’s rights. Reagan also promoted a young Eric Holder.
Barlett strikes me as a very confused man. He claims to be a Reaganite but then goes on to condemn Reaganites.
He used to write articles in the 80s about how the Democrats were out of touch, but they kept winning elections until 1994. Weird because the Democrats controlled Congress under Reagan.

I was having a “discussion” on guns and gun control with my lib niece. When I finally said she should put a sign on her house saying that it was “gun free”, she became so thin-skinned that she resorted to the usual...false sense of shame and the usual DNC advertising slogans.

Not sure what your niece has to do with Bartlett's paper. Oh, wait, sure I am! It's the typical conservative response to change the subject to other topics in deflection from the actual subject. Unrelated straw man arguments are so much easier than actual discussion of the subject matter, speaking of "emotional knee-jerk response."
Since the conservative base is currently in political and ideological disarray with the Establishment GOP and the Tea Party being diametrically opposed to each other, they're having trouble uniting and inspiring their base with a coherent and uniform vision of the future. So their agenda and their narrative has been to mobilize the resentful conservative masses to thumb their noses at anyone they feel looks down on them. So the right-wing media propaganda machine is unifying their base with the relentless narrative that it is conservatives who are actually being "persecuted" and are "under attack" by the "takers," the gays, the blacks, the browns, Hollywood entertainers, college professors, public school educators, the "elites," and the "left." The right-wing media propaganda narrative of today is all about the raw emotion of conservative grievance.
Conservatives should put a sign on their foreheads saying "persecuted," or better yet a sign saying "kick me."

The American writer, Issac Asimov, once said, “Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that ‘my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.’” Unfortunately, this thread has continued to this day, and individuals like Ted Cruz and Scott Walker are here to remind us that ignorance can be quite competitive with knowledge, as long as there’s money behind it.
And so the Republican primaries will be full of the usual evangelical type preaching, damning abortion and calling their Democratic contenders “elitist” snobs, while brushing off those so-called “expert” climate scientists and their warnings. But you can only blame the politicians so much. When it comes down to it, this is simply what a big part of the population expects from their leaders — religious buffoons who embrace a paranoid style of politics; where experts and academics are looked down upon as disconnected and deceitful, and where faith in Jesus and the Bible is the ultimate guiding light. Where one is expected to go with their gut rather than their head, and where “professorial” is an insult. Anti-intellectualism is an American tradition, and these new contenders denying scientific facts and calling Harvard a communist institution are simply embracing a populace that individuals like Billy Sunday and Joseph McCarthy once embraced. The alliance of religion and big business has fully incorporated America’s unfortunate anti-intellectualist culture, which has resulted in millions of people voting against their interest because of their own ignorant hostility towards anything that could be deemed elitist. It is a cycle of ignorance and poverty, and it is exactly what the real elites, like billionaire oil men, aim for.
