Union members protest at special olympics in WI.

;

This is so sad. - Zville MT

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't care who they are or what the state government is doing to them, this is just wrong. What could they have been thinking? Those people in the Special Olympics did nothing to them! There's a time and a place for a protest and this was not even close.

I couldn't agree more. - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
If my autistic son were involved in the special olympics and something like that happened in front of him, I'd be furious. How rude and inconsiderate! They have every right to protest but goodness gracious.....do you have to protest at the special olympics when that has NOTHING at all to do with what you are protesting about? People are so self-centered sometimes.

Protest had nothing to do with Unions - Typical Fox reporting

[ In Reply To ..]
Unless you are talking about the Student Union. That is not Public Employee's Union!

"Earlier in the day, the group was part of a âDie-In and Zombie Marchâ by about 50 people protesting cuts to student aid and a new voter ID law that critics say will make it harder for students to vote, said Erika Wolf, field organizer and lobbyist for the United Council of UW Students, an advocacy group that represents about 150,000 students throughout Wisconsin."

Didn't even see this on Fox and didn't have to read the link provided by the OP. - Zville MT

This link was provided on Yahoo - pretty much gives all the facts. I did say in my post that I didn't care who they were or what the state government was doing to them, it's still wrong. People need to think before they act.

Parents--Tell your kids it is not cool to protest just anywhere. - Typical Fox reporting
[ In Reply To ..]
In the OP article posted above, the guy says they are noisy government workers. Since when is a quiet group of kids from the student union a bunch of noisy government workers?

They may have been ill-advised to choose this venue, but get the story right, please!
Like I said, didn't read the article from the OP... - Zville MT
[ In Reply To ..]
You're right, get the story right, but come on! Protesting, quietly or not, at the Special Olympics? Really? What exactly did that prove?

In the link to the article I gave, even the head of the student organization disagreed with it and said it didn't make them look very good.

I'm ALL for the right to protest, but this was hardly the place to make a political statement of any kind. Ill-advised, indeed.

I only posted a link, not a video. And what lie are you talking about?
Your replied to the OP as if you had watched the video - The OP's video is a lie.
[ In Reply To ..]
Apparently you did not post the video, (I don't know), but the video insinuates that the protest was done by government workers and was disrespectful and noisy. The protest was in fact a bunch of college kids protesting a proposed law affecting students. The video was intentionally misleading.
No, I didn't even see it, so didn't know there was a video. - Zville MT

I guess that was my fault for commenting on the story and for assuming that Fox had the story right. I know, you can rag on Fox all you want, but I'll say it again - doesn't matter who those people were, what they did was in very poor taste and they should be ashamed of themselves.

This was posted on WSAW out of Wausau, WI. For some reason the link did not work, so I copied and pasted the story.

After a stop at the Capitol Square, the Special Olympic Torch is now on its way to Stevens Point, but not without getting involved in Capitol politics.

Yesterday, while Governor Scott Walker was giving the keynote address in Madison, a group of students stood in front of him with their backs turned in protest.

Erika Wolf, United Council for UW Students says that the protest had nothing to do with the Special Olympics. "Students walked up to the front and turned their backs, so he could see their t-shirts labeled 'students are as good as dead', with the date on it. They just stood quietly in their protest." Governor Walker didn't address the protestors during his address.

The 25th anniversary Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics starts in Wausau and ends in Stevens Point.. It marks the beginning of the 2011 summer Special Olympics.
Thanks. A far cry from the drivel in the video. - nm

So that makes it okay for them to protest - at special olympics?

[ In Reply To ..]
Regardless of what they were protesting...there was no reason for that protest to be done at the special olympics...totally uncalled for.
Does it make it okay for Fox to misrepresent - who did what? nm

What they reported would be like saying it was public workers protesting veteran's funerals. A lie is a lie.

I tried to find something else to backup this story. Yeah, right. What I found is a video of the some very quiet, well-behaved, unidentified people who came in stood with the crowd. No yelling, chanting, etc. There was also a guy with a sign, but hey, remember Walker's comments about placing "plants" at the rallies? I think you need some real reporting and facts to back up whatever point you are making.

I'll bite...where are you facts and proof - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
to back up that the protestors at the special olypmics were planted by Walker...since that is obviously what you are suggesting. I swear you people have an excuse for everything. Oh it wasn't us...they were planted. Oh..Weiner isn't guilty...it is Breitbart or whatever the heck is name is. This isn't Obama's fault...Bush started it. Always an excuse or a deflection. Amazing!!!

Don't bother to look for it on MSM. They won't touch anything that makes the left look bad.

A silent "zombie" protest at the Special Olympics ceremony is vile and cruel to those athletes. Why would they chose to do this at that ceremony? Can they be any more insensitive and disrespectful to those athletes?

There's a time and place to protest, but targeting the Special Olympics is wrong on so many levels.

What's next on the protest agenda? Walker's speech during the opening of a new cancer wing at the children's hospital? Keep it classy kids.

Shame, shame, shame.

College students, not leftists, not noisy, not union, not government workers. - I agree

[ In Reply To ..]
the protest was inappropriate. Can we also agree that the only accurate statement in the entire Fox video was there was a protest at the Special Olympics event by costumed zombies? The rest of it had not one shred of truth. This report should be retracted and an apology issued for its gross inaccuracies.

Who were the WI ‘protesters’ disrupting a Special Olympics event?

On Wednesday, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker addressed a group of Special Olympians to congratulate them for their hard work. It was the kind of event that is a feel-good moment for everyone involved.

Until it was crashed by protesters.

Yesterday my radio show was sent the video (the original video is from The John K. MacIver Institute for Public Policy), which shows a group of protesters dressed up as zombies lined up in front of the Olympians — blocking their view of Gov. Walker while he was delivering his remarks.

When asked about their actions, the protestors were remorseless. One protester (speaking very softly on camera), when asked if what they did was appropriate, said: “That’s why we didn’t come in acting like zombies.”

The protesters are students from the University of Wisconsin, calling themselves the United Council of UW Students. They have a Facebook page where they discussed their planned “die-in” to protest Voter ID laws in Wisconsin and budget cutting issues within the University system:

After spending the morning taking pictures for a photo-petition on voter id requirements, students will start with a die-in at noon, followed by eulogies and mourners, with students then reanimating to march through the Capitol as zombies.

On their website, they claim their mission is:

To represent all students of the UW System and advocate for them on issues of higher education pertaining to value, quality and the student experience.

Those who visit the website are greeted by a photo of a group of smiling students waving their fists in the air, the same gesture they made in front of the Special Olympians.

If you click on the “About UC” page, you are greeted by a photo of students at what appears to be a rally, with one of the students wearing a scarf that reads “Palestine” in both Arabic and English. The rest of the people in the picture are carrying signs that say “Stand With Wisconsin” and show a giant blue fist.

These signs also have some very small white printing. On other photos, that white printing says, “Wisconsin AFL-CIO.”

The United Council of UW Students has issued a press release regarding their actions in front of the Special Olympians, in which the organization throws its own members under the bus:

To clarify events from today: United Council’s Day of Action around Higher Education Funding and how the Voter ID bill affects students consisted of a die-in and march around the Capitol. Any actions happening later in the day are outside the scope of UC’s day of action and was not endorsed or supported by the organization. If anyone has questions, feel free to give the office a call.

We will be calling, and we will report back here, and on PJTV.

(I broke the story on my radio show on Wednesday, which was broadcast live on PJTV.com. In the broadcast I referred to them as “union thugs” and discussed the Collective Bargaining Law. This was incorrect.)

Who they weren't....noisy union govt employees. - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
So help me out here. How exactly does this report from PajamaMedia, the "voice of the conservative minority," substantiate the Fox lie-like-a-dog video? Aside from nary a mention of the noisy govt union employees Fox claims orchestrared the protest, we have a a nit-wit who is trying his best to create subversion out of thin air.

Did you fact check this report? What I mean is did you visit the website to see the smiling students with the raised fists on the home page, and the the pro-Palestinian scarf in English and Arabic, the Stand with Wisconsin signs, the big blue fist and the alleged fine print AFL-CIO presence on the About Us page? The website must exist only in the parallel universe of the outer fringes, because the one I visited and walked myself through did not have any of this garbage on it...nothing, zero, zip, nada, zilch.

After he was done thoroughly misrepresenting the student website and with his flimsy innuendoes, and after dissing the students, he turns around and talks about the only only thing I did find on the website....the disclaimer statement issued by the United Council of UW Students, suggesting I suppose we are to infer at that point that the culprits at the Special Olympics were AFL-CIO subverts instead of the stragglers from the die-in event earlier in the day. Huh? What is the logic of portraying the kids as subversive dissidents, then saying they in fact had nothing to do with it after all because it was the AFL-CIO dressed up as zombies that were really behind it?

You cited a source without checking it, made yourself look foolish and lent cerdibility to the other side of the argument. Where did you learn how to do that?

Why Do You Think There Are Protests In Nov 26, 2014
Surely they do not really care that much about Michael Brown or Darren Wilson personally.  Do you think it is all unjustified protesting?  Michael Brown ISSUE was a spark to a movement.  This movement represents 2 things: 1.  Racial discrimination by police/authority and society in the U.S. 2.  Police aggression and brutality/over-reaction, frequently against people of color (brown and tan).   Obviously, the extreme looting/burning in St. Louis is out of line.&n ...
