Why Do you Think There are Protests in

Posted: Nov 26, 2014

Surely they do not really care that much about Michael Brown or Darren Wilson personally.  Do you think it is all unjustified protesting?  Michael Brown ISSUE was a spark to a movement.  This movement represents 2 things:

1.  Racial discrimination by police/authority and society in the U.S.

2.  Police aggression and brutality/over-reaction, frequently against people of color (brown and tan).

Obviously, the extreme looting/burning in St. Louis is out of line.  The emotions are running high, and it is a personal reaction there.  People knew Michael Brown and knew Darren Wilson, or at least the Ferguson police department.  They have a lot more anxiety and emotion involved.  Still not an appropriate reaction.  The burning of Michael Brown, Sr.'s church, the church he was baptized in very recently (Michael Jr was supposed to have been there also, I'm not certain if it was for his own baptism or just in support of his father, but Michael Jr. was reported to have been speaking about faith with the construction workers who were swearing at their work situation when he walked by--he promised to come back and check on them...) was not an appropriate reaction either.  There has been talk about outside forces having been responsible for some of the incitement to violence and I would have to agree, there might be an outside element in the burning of the church (some have insinuated the KKK---I don't really want to go there unless there is better evidence), but I don't have any trouble thinking it was not the regular Ferguson protestors.

I went to a protest walk last night.  Albeit a small, home town situation, so it was not likely to be violent, but t was wrapped in faith and respect for other humans, whether they be of color, homosexual, transgender, male, female, and several of the aforementioned at a time.

I even find myself thinking about Wilson and how he must feel and must have felt at the time.  I believe self-preservation will keep him from revealing his true feelings.  I can't believe that if I had been in that situation that I would not have a whole lot more remorse in the end result (whether I felt justified or not) in killing an unarmed person that was just starting his life.  When policemen kill children with toy guns, that they mistake for real guns, the shootings are found to be justified, but the policemen still show remorse.

Obviously, this is just my opinion.

More and more I think "transgenderism" is really just a phenomenon related to A) Internet "hive mind" and B) postmodern theory taught in universities. Other than that, it certainly bears no relation to what went down in Ferguson.

Plain old "vanilla" feminism offers more in the way of analysis of Michael Brown case (ideas as to what it means to be a man, a black man or a white man in America. I think the person who was robbed was also male, not sure. So you can throw that in the mix too). I have seen some commentary on Ferguson which almost goes there...but not quite.

Obviously, this is just my opinion.

I think plain old boring economic analysis works too. Isn't the fundamental issue the lack of jobs - jobs that don't require advanced training or education?

I feel like America is headed to (I mean, THE PLANET) is headed to a place where you have relatively few well-paying jobs that require a lot of training...and then a ton of jobs that don't pay very well and don't require many skills (dontcha know all the "smarts" are in the computer system/robot/high tech). Yeah, smart machines and stupid people. That makes a lot of sense.

That doesn't seem politically sustainable to me, over the long term.

But obviously, this is just my opinion. Projections about the job markets of the future seem to bear out my opinion though.

Did not the FIL say "burn the b.... down?" - Was this only for white establishments?

He is mother's boyfriend, I believe. They may be married. He does not speak for the Brown family and has not spoken for the Brown family. As far as the movement in Ferguson, I believe the organizers would say it was very unfortunate for him to have said that. As far as power in the movement, it would be new that he had any. But, for the moment he might have "inspired" some.

The observation in the OP was that these protests are nationwide and perhaps national. I guess some must think it is the same phenomenon as the delusional Obama supporters. Nothing to see her, just move along. Everything is just fine. No reason to get all excitable.
Loved the Atlanta demonstration the other - night

Watching on TV. There had been arrangements made in advance just in case. The police chief said no one was going to burn, loot, tear up Atlanta. I hated to see swat officers out in full dress but the crowds told they had to stay on the sidewalks, keep walking and as they walked the police were alongside either in their cars or on foot. The crowds not allowed to stop, just keep moving. The TV people were saying what is the final outcome if they are just walking over the town. I thought it was an excellent ploy on the part of the city.

Yes, it was the stepfather who has not been - seen since.

The Brown attorney said he was stressed. Now people are calling for him to be jailed and sued for citing a riot, looting and burning. One can only imagine what kind of role model he was for Michael.
He's a low-life street thug and should be imprisoned for inciting riots. - sm

They'll probably find him cowering in some corner with his pants still down around his knees and crying foul. Maybe Al and Jesse will help his sorry behind.

I am from Chicago and Jesse and Al were on TV all of the time. I believe they are racists and bigots, they would always call for some type of protest or unrest to get their points across. Maybe with all the money they get from their churches, they can rebuild the destroyed businesses. Jesse was not there the first night and he is usually everywhere, especially if it is controversial. The stepdad wanted his 5 minutes of fame and he can now boast how his ranting caused the rioting, fires and destruction of business, police cars, etc. Yep, quite the role model.
The owners of burned businesses should sue him. - NM

I was going to say make Obama pay, but that's like asking me to bring out my pocketbook. Tax-and-spend liberals. That's all we do is pay for their pet projects to the detriment of the middle class in this country.

I thought it was the step-father who spoke those words? Could be wrong.

Okay...so here is my thing.  I don't like unions.  I think that unions have used and abused union workers all the while saying they are there to protect them.  Union bosses have made outlandish salaries and are as crooked as the greedy CEOs who also make outlandish salaries. I understand that union workers in WI are ticked.  No one wants to lose money...just ask anyone in the private sector who has taken a pay cut or lost their jobs entirely.  It sucks and it isn&# ...

Hoodie ProtestsMar 28, 2012
In my opinion, this is getting out of control and this latest stunt on the house floor is out of line. Co-founder of the Illinois Black Panthers, Rep. Following protests in the capital of Egypt this week, the deadly attack on the U.S. Embassy in Benghazi, Libya that took the life of four Americans yesterday, and the latest aggressive protests at the U.S. Embassy in Yemen’s capital that are occurring today, President Barack Obama needs to stay in Washington, D.C., suspend campaigning, and address the threats against Americans in the Middle East. France Bans Protests Against Blasphemous Cartoons!Sep 22, 2012
PARIS: France banned protests on Friday against cartoons published by a satirical weekly denigrating Islam’s Prophet Mohammad as part of a security clamp-down while prayers took place across the Muslim world. The drawings have stoked a furore over an anti-Islam film made in Ca ...

Watching The "protests" (riots) WhatAug 14, 2017
You could not pay me enough to show up at a protest which begs the question, are these people paid?  Who hates enough to endanger their lives for free?  The goon that ran people over, did hatred consume him enough to end up in prison?  I fear for the mentality of the US to have these things happen, not just here but in Berkely, etc. So help me understand.  Is there anything you believe enough in that you would join a riot/protest?     ...
