Week of May 17 – May 21, 2010

This week in Washington, the House of Representatives took its first vote on the inaugural YouCut project winner: cutting $2.5 Billion from the Non-Reformed Welfare Program.

Fed up with reckless spending in Washington, the American public flocked to YouCut and chose wasteful welfare spending as the first government largess to hit the chopping block. Over 280,000 Americans participated in the first round of YouCut, an innovative program allowing the American people to vote online or by text message on their top spending cut and then including the winning cut in legislation on the House floor.

The second round of YouCut voting has begun. To participate in YouCut, click on the image above

Just another gimmick by a party failing - to reinvent themselves.

The GOP is going to have to do better than this to offset that trillion dollar war, half a trillion dollar drug benefits plan, billions of dollars in tax cuts for the rich, hundreds of billions in inherited debt service, just to name a few. That tax cut for the rich, for example, is the gift that just keeps on giving. It is expected to cost an additional $4.4 trillion in the next 10 years if it is extended.

Mr. Cantor, how do you propose to pay for all that? No wonder you are outsourcing your fiscal responsiblity burdens to YouCut enthusiasts. Caution, Mr. Whip. Be careful what you ask for. That Paygo genie pubs unleased during their last born again fiscal foot soldiering and grandstanding may just turn around and bite them bigtime between now and November. This website is going to produce PLENTY of fodder for table turning in the near future. Stay tuned.

Dream on. Its the dems who are in big trouble - THANKS OBAMA! :-)

Obama in control and dems in control of Congress. Both have approvals in the toilet. You might want to open your eyes a bit.

Cantor's YouCut scam, err, I mean link and review some of the proposed cuts. Of particular interest would be the cut to spending THAT NEVER HAPPENED. Embedded you will also find another Breitbart-style embarrassment just waiting to happen. Here's a hint. It is something being propped up and promoted by Fox News. I will leave it up to you to puzzle over which ones they are.

It is beyond me how this party can engage itself in such utter folly and expect anybody to take them seriously.

As far as current approval ratings go, here is the order of ranking. Obama's rating is the highest, followed by dems in Congress and pubs are bringing up the rears (big suprise there). You seem to be the one who is dreaming, but thanks for bringing up the subject.

LOL! You really made me laugh. To be positive about - Obamas numbers? Wow.. funny.nm

Let's try this one more time. - sm

In descending order, the numbers show Obama's approval ratings are higher than Congressional dems, and both Obama and Congessional dems are beating out Congessional pubs. Seems to me that laughable part of this equation would be those who try to be positive about the losers' ratings, a conclusion supported by elementary logic.

Next time you want to bash the president and belittle his supporters, might want to refrain from referring to those approval ratings. Just a thought.
HAHAHA.. Obama would not have to try to be ahead - of Congress. You cant deny O is plummeting.nm

Ws job approval rating on election day 2004 was 46%. Obama has a long way to go before he hits Ws abysmal rock-bottom 19% by the time he left office. In fact, his approval rating never rose above 45% after September 2005.

No telling where approval ratings for Obama will go and end up between now and November 2012, huh? Voters can be a really fickle and polls change directions more often than the wind. Tell you what. I would bet the farm they will never look as pathetic as Ws.

BTW, the only measure we have to compare Obama with is Congress, since the pubs can't seem to come up with any viable leadership candidates (let alone, a campaign platform). As soon as they can work up the nerve to actually name someone they can agree on, get back to me with all that bravado so we can compare him to his opponent, shall we? Until then all we have to go by is Obama 46%, Congress 11%, a margin of more than 4 to 1).

Obama already looks worse than the 40-something pct. - Bet he drops into the 30s. Hope and change.. LOL
[ In Reply To ..]
Yeah, and change isnt always a GOOD thing, is it? By the way, you seem to conveniently forget something. I am no Bush fan, but his economy was great until the last 2 years when dems took over Congress. Since they have been in control, economy has stunk. Obama is only adding to the problem. I know its hard to deal with the truth of Obama, but he is so inexperienced that he is dangerous.
Obviously you did not inspect the link I provided for you - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
The only reason I gave Ws approval rating at the time he was re-elected is because it is the same as Obama's is now, in an effort to point out that Obama's transient dip to 46 does not make him unelectable, as history has proven, especially considering we are still 2 years and 4 months out from November 2012. Your glee is WAY premature, dontcha think? You might want to take a look at the way those ratings have a way of blowing around in the political winds during the course of a presidency before making any wagers. Like I said, one sure bet is that he will never take the protracted 3-year nosedive W could not escape.

I am not into responding to direct baiting, so you can take your bashing elsewhere. I will respond to the fact that you have no hesitation in making foolish statements about economic principles that seem to lay just beyond your grasp. Recessions do not spring up overnight. BTW, valid conclusions cannot be based on false premises either.

Your characterization of the Bush economy as "great" is too laughable to entertain, not to mention insulting to the intelligence of those among us who were breathing and conscious over the past decade. Your claims about being no Bush fan are belied somewhat by the heavy lifting you do when towing that party line. Whatever. You could stand to bone up a bit on the difference between economic indicators between 2006 and 2009, then 2009 and mid-2010. Begin, though, by taking off the blinders first. Otherwise, you will be just wasting your time.
Go back and look at the history. I know its hard, - but give it a shot. Its also

Kind of amazing that Obama had an approval between 70 and 80 pct not long ago. When people wake up, they REALLY wake up, thank goodness.

Ws plummet from 91% to 19%, huh? Notice how he so deftly simply reversed the order of the digits. Coooooool.

Fact remains that you have no idea what those numbers are going to do between now and November 2012 or what kind of candidates the pubs are going to drag out. So far, the most recent Gallup poll shows Palin got 76% of the GOP preference, despite the fact that an SP endorsement for 2010 candidates so far has proven to be the kiss of death.

I strongly recommend you read the WaPo article linked below. It might help explain why I can say with a great deal of confidence that the GOP is likely going to shoot itself in the foot again when it comes to making its most crucial decision, ala Sharron Angle (probably the only candidate in Nevada Harry Reid can actually trounce), John McCain, etc, etc.

But hey, I am right behind the 76 percenters. This would be a dream-come-true for dems. All Obama would have to do to win that race is to be alive and breathing. Can you say slam dunk?

regular folk have their input on the wasteful spending in our govt. I'd much rather put all of my faith in politicians because I know they will do what is best for the American people and not what is best for THEIR wallets.

Just because this is backed by a republican....doesn't mean it isn't a good idea. Why don't you put down your party lines and open your mind a bit. You might find something on there worth voting for. Can you honestly say that you looked at all of those things listed on there and didn't find that you would like to cut from our govt spending?

Why can't some of you understand that this isn't about pubs and crats anymore. This is about the American people struggling to keep their heads above the water and our govt spending more and more and more? Yes, Bush started it. I get it. Obama is finishing it....why can't you get that?

I have no problem with the concept. - sm

Mr. Cantor has the public voting on spending that DID NOT HAPPEN. Why do you suppose that is? Hint: Search for the Beitbartesque allegations. This particular project is a partisan gimmick.

Starting a new thread because the old one is too hard to follow any more. You've got me doing more googling than I ever intended but that is a good thing.  Total cost of health care in this country was up to 2.3 trillion a couple of years ago and undoubtedly higher now.  Frivolous law suits accounted for only 1 to 1.5% of the costs and unnecessary tests an even smaller percentage at 6.8 billion.  I couldn't copy the link but if you google frivolous lawsuits health care ...

ObamaCare. Working directly with his patients and cutting out the insurance and government bureaucrats, lowers costs for the patients and increases the quality of care they receive.
