she made more of an effort to actually sound like Hillary.

Hillary has different speaking voices depending on who (sm) - LM

she is speaking to, if you know what I mean. Kind of like Obama. Depends on the audience.

Or Mitt? Those 47% people! - nm

Not important that Walker and Mitt say different things? - Peek-a-boo

Depending on who they are talking to? Lets see, lets talk to the rich guys and trash talk those poor people. Now lets go and pretend to the poor people that we care about them.

OK?
No. You still don't get it. Never mind. - nm

The gender thing isn't going to carry her over the finish line, because we're not so stupid that we'll vote for someone just because we have the same plumbing, and it's amazing how much the men I know hate her. Not one of them likes her or wants to spend the next 8 years looking at her. I'm beginning to think that men will come out in droves to vote against her, and I don't think that's being picked up in polls.

Obama has shown the country what a terrible idea it was to vote on the basis of race, and it's a not a stretch for voters to reason from race to gender. We've hopefully learned not to consider factors that are utterly irrelevant when it comes to selecting the President of the United States.

Let's hope intelligence rules - sm

and not any type of social bias.

I am all for her not because she is a woman - Flour Child

It is because of the issues and those include the issues that are important to women as well as men. Someone who knows what the European Union is. Some who know where the United Arab Emirates is. Someone who understand economics and understands how policies impact the middle class.

The Republicans simply do not care.

Most voters vote on the issues. - sm

You said: "We've hopefully learned not to consider factors that are utterly irrelevant when it comes to selecting the President of the United States," but you also say the men you know hate her and don't want to look at her, which I actually think is an utterly irrelevant factor when it comes to selecting the President of the United States.

The voters really only commit to any candidate for a 4-year term, so worrying about having to look at any candidate for 8 years seems utterly irrelevant to me, regardless of who it is or what race or gender they are. I certainly do not want to look at Cruz or Paul for 4 years, but I don't vote based on looks, gender, or race.

For most voters, it's not about gender or race. I've never voted for a male just because he was a male, and I also never voted for a woman just because she was a woman, either at the presidential level or senatorial level or congressional representative level. My congresswoman gets lots of votes from male voters and has for a long, long time. They don't hold her being a female against her. I've also had several chances over the last 20 years to vote for a woman senator in my state, but she is a Republican who does not share my views. We have 20 women Senators now from both parties. I don't remember anyone making their gender a big issue at all or saying that people only voted for them because they were women, although I guess that could have happened in a state I don't live. In this day and age, voters are comfortable with women as Governors and Senators and Representatives, and I don't think it's a stretch to think that the electorate will someday elect a woman president.

Did people vote for Michelle Bachman just because she was a woman? Did women turn out in droves to make Sarah Palin the first female Vice President? No. Could they have? Yes, they had that choice. Do you think women will vote for Carly Fiorina, the Republican presidential candidate, just because she is a woman? I haven't heard a single person saying anything like that about Carly. Do you think black people will vote for Ben Carson just because he is black? I sure don't. Why aren't Republicans saying Ben Carson will get elected just because he is a black man?

Do you think New York or California are going to flip from being Democratic states to Republican states? I don't. Those states are pretty much in the bag for whomever becomes the Democratic candidate, regardless of gender, race, etc., and you can go down the line and look at demographics, since we have 51 separate elections to fill the presidential slot. New York and California are a huge number of electoral votes.

If you count up the other electoral votes and look at demographics, Hillary Clinton or whomever the Democratic nominee turns out to be, already has a very good chance to win the election based on those factors alone, regardless of race and regardless of gender.

I just spit out my Starbucks, lol, that was hilarious.

But don't forget, we could also just as easily insert anyone named Bush into that sentence as well (only minus the the "first dude" portion of the skit, of course).

Come to think of it, Bill Clinton as "first dude" was the scariest part of that skit. I can just see him at White House dinners, slapping the female staff on the backside and saying:

"Darlin', get me another gin and tonic. Hey, you know I'm the first dude, right? As the first official 'first dude', I'd like to officially welcome myself-erm-I-mean-you back to the White House by presenting you with a key to the Roosevelt bedroom. I'll be FDR, you be Lucy. Let's make history."

Ew?

PS - Of course, as I've said, I wouldn't vote against Hillary BECAUSE of Bill's private behavior, but it does make some good comedic sketch. C'mon, admit it - that skit was funny. Sometimes ya gotta laugh at the absurd and not take ourselves/things so seriously. Over the top characterizations, yes, but funny.

The Republican Sense Of HumorMar 28, 2012
Romney certainly has a lot of that sharp and scintillating legendary Republican sense of humor. Here is the very funny story Romney told today in Wisconsin.
