MODERATOR! Why are the likes and dislikes disabled????

Posted: Nov 17, 2015

I've been trying to leave 'likes' and 'dislikes' since Saturday but am unable to do so. Will there no longer be any way to "comment" by those choices? If not, why?

It's a way for a lot of MTs to be able to voice their opinion without a reply because they may be working or about to work, or just don't have an answer but may agree or disagree with the original poster.

;

Is it... - ...

[ In Reply To ..]
... just here on the politics board? I just liked something on a different board earlier this morning, and it went through okay. However, I just tried to like your post here, and it wouldn't go through. Strange.

My guess . . . - sm

[ In Reply To ..]

The liberals win the like/dislike votes all the time? A way to make that pesky problem go away.

I agree, but would that not be kind of biased? - Also, it may backfire

[ In Reply To ..]

I now have to force myself to respond to the multitude of right wing posts rather than simply disliking them. I agree with TruthHurts, I would rather just like or dislike them.

Also, if we are not allowed to use the dislike button, I guess us liberals will just have to put on a lot more posts to counteract them.

It seems strange that this would be disallowed, after all it is automatic, no? I can't imagine any extra work involved with the like/dislike thing, so you have to wonder if the only reason is as you have stated, seeing the numbers of how many of us lefties there are is simply not desired by this board.

What would be interesting - perhaps
[ In Reply To ..]
If there were no likes and dislikes, people might quit posting crazy stuff just to win the contest (or who is highest in the polls), but actually have a rational discussion.

Sounds good but I am not seeing that with this - board now, are you?
[ In Reply To ..]
I don't know that people post crazy stuff and I know I never post trying to get likes, in fact I have heard some say it's a badge of honor to get many dislikes.

I agree with TruthHurts in that I would rather like or dislike posts than post myself many times due to lack of time or I really find so many times it's not possible to have a rational discussion, it just becomes back and forth and eventually stopping by just agreeing to disagree.

This is fine, but I just would mostly rather not post, just use the buttons. I don't know who posts crazy stuff to "win the contest" - I just don't see what that would mean and who would want that, and I don't really think most people care how many likes they get but rather it is a way for the rest of us to appreciate or disagree with posts.
A "friend" was bragging - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
about how many "likes" he had gotten on another site--somewhere over 200. He said it was a "new record" for him. He is very extremist and I think posts just for shock value. That is what I mean by crazy posts--they include ugly name calling, dog whistles, or using old viral e-mails that have proven to be false, etc.
Well I cannot really recall many posters on this - board like that at all
[ In Reply To ..]
So if that is the reason for not allowing the like and dislike buttons not entirely sure that fits.

Even though the moderation has been a little more lenient of late, I doubt these really inflammatory posts would get through if people are doing them just to get likes or dislikes.

I just wonder what the reasoning is about the disallowing of the buttons and if we will ever know.
Probably just has an aversion to seeing - conservative posts disliked.
[ In Reply To ..]
It's no secret that everything here is pretty lopsided, in favor of the right.

Yes, seem to be just on this board. Tried others too. (nm) - Truthhurts

[ In Reply To ..]
.

Truthhurts, I just - tried to like your post

[ In Reply To ..]
and, of course, couldn't. I sat here and watched the little spinny thing for a couple of seconds until...DUH!

I would rather like/dislike something than respond to half the stuff on here.

At least it's not just me. Sometimes, reading and - Truthhurts

[ In Reply To ..]
posting different articles and opinions make me feel paranoid. LOL

I like the like/dislike buttons because some days I don't have time to post replies. Right now, I'm listening to McCain on Military action against ISIS and pausing bringing refugees into this country until they are fully vetted. I'm hoping the Senate works together on both these items.

As everyone knows, I can get pretty chatty at times. Guess that's part of being isiolated year after year.

Anyway, I hope the buttons are fixed.

Like - :-) (nm)

x

I don't usually agree with you, but I DO agree - with you on this one! :)

[ In Reply To ..]

I'm not sure, but I posted something of a conservative nature, and - before 10 minutes it had 5 dislikes.

[ In Reply To ..]
No one had time to actually read it. It's like a game. I've often wondered it the left got their friends to dislike things or were in an office.

I think the disabling of that button was due to the request for 2 separate boards. I'm actually fine with it. I always thought it was a game for the leftists, not really reflective of MTs on the board. You can go to any other IP address and sign in.

So basically the like/dislike button was disallowed - so the board is more friendly for conservatives?

[ In Reply To ..]
As a consolation prize for not getting their own board? Pretty bogus.

Poor righties got their fee-fees hurt by all the dislikes and called the wambulance maybe?

I think the reason why many conservative posts get disliked by lefties is because, even in the subject line, there are names like Demalinsky, Hildabeast, Obummer, etc., so no rational discussion there, is there?

Why would you read that when the person has couched "their" (Fox News et al) opinions in such an inflammatory matter? That is where you find "reasoned discussion?" So of course you would dislike. Just like the righties automatically dislike anything with any liberal person or website in the title. It IS the same.

I think I would rather have the two separate boards frankly.

Get over yourself. The point was the left dislikes things w/o - bothering to read it. I personally

[ In Reply To ..]
just don't bother reading certain things. It's a waste of time and brain cells.
Exactly, we are canceling - each other out
[ In Reply To ..]
That's what I said, but somehow lefties are characterized as "the left dislikes things w/o bothering to read it," yet you "personally just don't bother reading certain things. It's a waste of time and brain cells."

Whether you like it or not, what you accuse "the left" of doing you just admitted doing yourself. Rights are no better than lefts. There is no difference here.

There is also no harm in allowing people to express their disgust with those posts they refuse to read because they are obviously not reasoned, well thought out posts, but bashing posts, either side of the aisle. That's my opinion anyway.
So in summary, the like/dislike button was not disabled to - be more "friendly to conservatives"
[ In Reply To ..]
but just in response to someone wanting separate boards.
I think only the moderator can tell us - why the like/dislike was disallowed
[ In Reply To ..]
The above conversation was someone supposing it was done because conservatives wanted a separate board, no lefties suggested that.

So I guess the supposition is that rather than give righties their own board they decided to take away our (presumably lefties') ability to dislike their comments.

So if that is, indeed, the reason, yes it was done to please the conservatives.

Pretty weak tea.
Like. ;) - nm
[ In Reply To ..]

I think you nailed it. They want it to look like - extremist conservative views are mainstream.

[ In Reply To ..]

You complain the left doesn't read conservative - posts, but there are conservatives -

[ In Reply To ..]
on this board who continually brag about not reading the liberal ones. Double standard?

Medicare Supplemental Ins. For Disabled Under 65?Oct 23, 2015
I wonder if anyone who is disabled and under age 65 has been able to find Medicare supplemental insurance that is affordable?  According to the Medicare site, only 29 states force insurance to accept you for supplemental insurance and I don't live in one of them.  What I'm considering is dropping Medicare coverage to get insurance through the Affordable Care Act, but not sure there is anything affordable.  I did have a full policy that's cost was $450 a month, but ...
