Kenner City LA republican councilman Joe Stagni

Posted: Jun 30, 2011

to a city worker according to a Times-Picayune article.  The recipient was his internal auditor at the time.  She then e-mailed it to another city coworker and BAM!  You guessed it.  It ended up on the city's server, wihch made it fair game for any public records request.  Stagni apologized and said it was the only image "that he knows of."

Not to worry.  He won't have to resign because he is a republican.

Seriously.  I'm not makin' this stuff up.  http://www.nola.com/politics/index.ssf/2011/06/kenner_councilman_apologizes_f.html

The difference in this story and Mr. Weiner - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
is that Weiner lied about it and even said his account was hacked and made a huge deal out of it and used the media when he really did take the picture and got busted for it.

As for saying this politician will not have to resign because he is a republican....I do believe President Clinton not only had extramarital affairs but also lied under oath saying he never had sexual relations with Monica. I do not believe he ever resigned...now did he? And I'm pretty sure President Clinton was a democrat and not a republican.

In reference to the story though...how dumb are these politicians? I mean really. I don't care what party they are from but if they are stupid enough to do something like this....they aren't smart enough to represent us. Dumb dumb dumb.

Thing is the women recipients of the image AND the email - lost their jobs.

Clinton was re-elected by a hefty 9% margin and got more votes than Dole and Perot combined. That tells us the GOP did a poor job of convincing anyone outside their party that the Clintons' private affairs were any of our business. It also tells us that the majority of Americans did not much appreciate the witch hunt, believe an extramarital affair rose to an impeachable offense and pretty much forgave him for doing what most any other human being would do when confronted by massive public scrutiny of a private transgression involving extramarital sex. The oath aspect of it evidently was mooted by the widespread feeling that the impeachment proceedings were bogus and should never have happened in the first place, given that the issue belongs between husband and wife.

IMO, some Americans still harbor anachronistic puritanical values when it comes to sex sandals and political leadership, which are nothing new and can be traced far back in our nation's history. The French seem to get it. They realize how one has nothing to do with the other and I would not be surprised to see Strauss-Kahn go on to run for president after all. His supporters are already laying that groundwork regardless of any doubts that may linger about his guilt or inncence.

Though the "because he is republican" comment was meant to be tongue-in-cheek, I believe reminders of the blaring double standards and GOP hypocrisy on the issue of ethics, particularly as they apply to sex scandals, are in order and completely justified.

Like you, I remain completely mystified by the dumb dumb dumb factor.

It wasn't the extramarital affair that was impeachable... - Zville MT

It was the lying under oath.
Are you missing the part about - sm

extramarital affairs being none of our business, the witch hunt uncalled for and the very human and understandable tendency to lie about private issues when under intense public scutiny as an oversight or on purpose? Despite whatever lipstick Ken Starr tried to put on this pig, the public did not buy into it.

Starr's report backfired on him. Instead of giving the GOP an edge in the 1998 mid-terms (6 years into Clinton's 8-year term), when the party in power typically loses seats, the dems made gains. This prompted Starr to call a lame duck session in a desperate attempt to push the impeachment through. Despite his best efforts, Senate republicans joined dems to vote not guilty on both counts, including 10 who voted to acquit on the perjury charge. Naturally, the Jones case came to a screeching halt in the face of a hefty monetary settlement. After his acquittal, Clinton's approval rating soared to an all-time high of 73%.

By all indications, the public recognized the difference between public and private issues and reaffirmed their desire to maintain the 300-year distance between Salem witch trials and modern day mindset.

Does your statement apply to both sides of - the aisle...

.....or just for ProgLibs? Just wondering, cause if it weren't for double standards you ProgLibs wouldn't have any standards.
Of course it does as long as - we are talking sex scandals.

I respect the pols right to make their own decisions on whether or not they resign whenever they get caught in these transgressions. As offensive as I find Weiner's and Ensign's behaviors, I do not think either one of them should be forced out of office by their colleagues or embarassed into resignation by the media. It should be left up to the same constituents who sent them to DC whether they stay or go. They work for the American citizens, not each other. In the case of criminal convictions for sex crimes or various abuse of power scenarios such as harassment, stalking, involvements with underage staff, nonconsensual sex or sex discrimination in hiring, pay and promotions, it's a different ballgame.

There are mechanisms in place to deal with ethics violations: Expulsion, censure, reprimand, suspension and fines. The House Ethics Manual goes into great detail over what are considered ethics violations, yet there is very little mention of sex. If any of these measures are to be deployed for sexual misconduct, the violations should be precisely spelled out in the manual like all the others. After all, our leaders are adults and should behave as such in ths regard. There should be nothing arbtrary or partisan about it and should never be determined on the basis of "popularity" among colleagues or who happens to be the ruling party at the moment.

But that is not the world we live. Instead we have rampant hypocrisy and double standards for which there should be ZERO tolerance in a so-called democracy.

What the heck is the problem with these creeps lately? They are so pathetic.

So, Democrats are the only ones who resign? Can you back that up or was that just your way of saying you despise Republicans? You know that both sides have had scandals that have left the creep in office.

This was just addressed in a previous post directly above yours. - sm

but I would appreciate it if you would try to refrain from putting words in my mouth. I never said dems are the only ones to resign, you did.

Regarding something being addressed in a previous post directly above mine, your comment wasn't there when I posted. Mine was posted at 1:23 and yours posted at 1:37.

As for putting words in mouths, I never said dems are the only ones who resign. Look closely and you'll see there's a question mark.
And on even closer inspection - we find a second question
[ In Reply To ..]
asking me, "Can YOU back THAT up or was that just YOUR way of saying YOU despise Republicans?"

So who is the "you/your/you" in that query you are now saying was not really an effort to put words in my mouth? Precisely what does the word "that" refer to, if not your preceding rhetorical statement/question? Inquiring minds want to know.

Like I said, those are words you are obviously trying to attribute to me, i.e., transfer from your brain directly into my mouth, for the sake of a petty snipe. The phrase "your way of saying" was my first clue!

Chicago To Remain A Sanctuary CityNov 14, 2016
Sanctuary cities now number around 340 cities around the country. Nice. Nothing like breaking the law and thumbing their noses at federal law. I hope this will end because it's ridiculous, but I doubt it.   CHICAGO (WLS) -- Mayor Rahm Emanuel emphasized Monday that Chicago is and will remain a sanctuary city for immigrants concerned about their future. In his first televised interview since becoming president, Trump said he plans to deport or jail 2 to 3 million people who have ...

Toronto Man Builds Steps For $550 That City Said WouldJul 23, 2017
Oh Canada. The City of Toronto estimated the cost of new steps would range between $65,000-$150,000. Like everything else, the city also dragged their feet in getting the work done. Fed up, a Toronto man built the steps for $550. No, I didn’t forget zeros. Five-hundred and fifty dollars. So of course the city tore the steps down. retiree in Toronto was unhappy with the length of time the city was taking to build a flight of stairs on a precarious slope.
